Stock tires & foam just need to be modified then they work just fine. Tires need some of the tread cut out of the center two rows going from left to right and cut out every other knob this allows them to have a gap to get a bite. Foam is to big & needs a little bit of trimming, rounding out the edges first then working to the center with a pair of scissors allows for some sidewall flex when reinstalled. Did this to my tires & foam on my Gen8 & was like night & day difference
I am very much enjoying your channel and videos, I just stumbled across you and I wanted to give you props. Easy to watch, easy to listen to, smiling, good personality, keep it up brother! Oh ya, skid plate will be a good one! Also so suspension tuning would be good to add to the free list.
I got referred to you by a friend , glad he did. I have a trx4 bronco a gmade sawback and my daughter has a gen 8 , I love all the reviews you do , and outher videos. And you know what you're talking about. But I did notice that about the radio and receiver. Wicked jumpy , specially in reverse.
YOU ARE SO GOOD WITH WITH THIS STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have saved me time and time again.PLUS A LOT OF MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, STEVE
Love your videos and how you present them. Obviously you love what you are doing! My Gen 8 arrives tomorrow and I can't wait to see what I can do with it with what I am learning from you. This will be my first RC truck (I have a few small drones and rc airplanes) and I'm excited to get started in this sport/hobby. Thanks!
Great videos. I upgraded the Servo (your suggested Animos!) and ESC (hobbywing 1080). The servo fixed the limited steering angle (guess not enuff torque to bring it to full when car's on the ground) and the hobbywing solved the twitchiness, so u dont really need to upgrade the transmitter/reciever... didnts top me from getting a DX5C thooo hahahaha! The gen 8's a lot of bang for your buck, really enjoying mine. thanks for all the videos!
Again, I would like to mention that you can get full steering throw by slightly increasing the bend in the steering drag link. As it is stock, the drag link will come into contact with the diff cover before steering throw is maxed out. It doesn't take very much at all to get the lock to clear the cover.
The first thing I did on my Gen8 was to replace the stock servo with a Power HD 25kg coreless metal gear servo. I found that the new servo and the longer aluminum horn that came with it solved the steering throw issue. I now have full steering throw without having to buy a new radio. That being said, I currently have a new FlySky FS-GT-5 six channel radio and receiver on order, primarily for more linear speed control.
😃👍 Cool ... yea the stock tires are not the best they get a bit slippery when wet... I found my foams got much softer after going in the mountain for a few miles with mine. That's weird the radio don't let it turn fully that's cool you can get more steering with a new radio system. EDIT Hi I just looked at my steering throw and I get full lock to lock throw with mine and also my esc starts up slow unlike yours maybe somethings wrong with your radio or something?
I swapped my reciever to a flysky amd its sooo much better ive also got cantilever suspension on the back an injora cherokee half cab with cage and 6 oz beadlocks its sitting as low as it can and its a beast it keeps up with my buddies scx10iii and its done right up
If I had to chose between the two I’d say hands down the blue is the best looking. I must have watched over 100 RC videos and I’ve narrowed my choices down to either the Gen 8 or the enduro Sendero.
Thanks for the ideas. I never cared for the Velcro, and I wouldn't really trust the magnets, so I just stuck the body posts in and got some clips for it. By the way, what do you think about the bfg a/t ko2 for crawling?
Love the mod ideas with the bumpers and sliders, im gonna also grind the front wheel well brush guards to look more correct. I dont like how the angles dont match. Will also help bigger tires clear later on.
By the time you add all the stuff.. how much extra $$$ are you talking about added to the price of the truck ...? Why not get a truck with those better add-on already with it ?
hi, i changed my radio/reviever but i lost the auto brake from the ecs. even powering it in without the jumper and back on again with it it still doesnt work. any idea what might cause that?
Yes, we saw the Hemistorm body. That guy is skilled. Yes we tried to recalibrate the stock system. Just not enough reach. And we had two vehicles to test too.
Hey man great video. Gonna buy one of these for my sons birthday. What electronics were you using with the Traxxas radio. I have a Traxxas radio spare so i ll use it but will need to get whatever i need "under the hood" to allow the traxxas radio to work. I ve never changed a radio before so not sure what is required Please let me know. Love your videos. Great work!
Kevin Blunt changing radio gear is really simple Buying new radio gear almost all radios come with the transmitter aka controller and the receiver pull the little plugs out of the receiver likely just channel 1 and 2 they have grooves or notches so it’s hard to get them the wrong way round, but if you do just swap them round . Make sure to either glue or screw down the new receiver. Stick the batteries in and your good to go . 5 minute job at most .
On the cheep what works. FCONEGY iMAX B6 Lipo Battery Balance Charger and a Zippy battery 2s or 3s the biggest one that will fit. A Hitec charger is recommended if you can spare the extra cash. I use a 8.4v nimh pack some times cuz there cheep and last for ever.
My local hobby shop only carries Red Cat and no parts. I keep buying them broken used dirt cheep 3rd one from people that live with in a mile of the hobby shop. Latest pick up was a Gen8 $140US broken servo, gear was in wrong it was all jammed up. I still like Traxxas better.
Dumb question #657.......🤪 I'm new to surface vehicles. Will this work on the Redcat Gen8? Traxxas TQi 2.4GHz 2-Channel Radio System w/TSM & Micro Receiver
2:30 - Wait... in the previous video, you said Redcat Gen 8's impressive 47-degree steering claim is false. Now you're saying, it's actually true provided you change your radio transmitter?
With box stock components, we could find no way to get the 47 degree claimed steering angle. And we have two kits. So the claim is false, box stock, in our view. With a transmitter upgrade, the steering is improved. It gets the full range of the steering. There are other issues though like CVDs and steering geometry limiting steering.
We would recommend 3-cell or 11.1 volts for max run time and power/punch/fun. 3200 mah will give you about 2.5 hour run time. We use 2200mah since it's small and provides 1.5+ hours of run time. Lipo batteries and charger for sure so budget $100 for them.
Nice. But I don't change anything on my RC RTR vehicles until the part either wears out or breaks. My opinion. Sure upgrading is awesome, but I firts like to get my money's worth from what I paid. 👍
Some folks like to to that and that works. The issue is more about getting stranded in the middle of the trail or not having a vehicle for a great weekend. Also, good to know and plan how much better this Gen8 can be. A lot of the upgrades are free too.
I did the Hyrax and put a spare Savox 0231 in, much fast and better turning, no slop either. The only issue I had was the stock servo is a bit narrower than the Savox.
Most professional and well thought out RC reviews since Jang! Aussie RC does pretty well too.
9:01 Tamiya Hornet I had in 1986 Came with a Balloon in the assembly kit. Still have the car.
Just traded a 1/8 scale Turnigy brushless combo for a gen8 used about 3 times! I threw in $80 aswell! All in all I can't wait to start upgrading! 😂
This is the best channel for reviews
Stock tires & foam just need to be modified then they work just fine.

I'm going to have to try that. Thank you for the suggestion.
Actually one of the best channels out there ,i´ve learned a lot ,thx

This is the best video I’ve seen on what should be done first to this truck
really appreciate your comment

The gen 8's a lot of bang for your buck, really enjoying mine. thanks for all the videos!
My first mod was a 25Kg servo, then a Flysky GT5 transmitter and receiver and last but not least a set of good ProLine tires and two stage foams.
Again, I would like to mention that you can get full steering throw by slightly increasing the bend in the steering drag link. As it is stock, the drag link will come into contact with the diff cover before steering throw is maxed out. It doesn't take very much at all to get the lock to clear the cover.
Much appreciated! We will try that and maybe it can beat the TRX4
E6000 around the receiver box seam, antenna tube, and the extension outlets keeps the inside of the rx box dry. Little tough to remove when needed.
The first thing I did on my Gen8 was to replace the stock servo with a Power HD 25kg coreless metal gear servo. The magnet idea was perfect, thanks for the video man.
Nice tips. Thanks. I've been saving up for one and hope to be ordering it next month.
😃👍 Cool ... yea the stock tires are not the best they get a bit slippery when wet... I found my foams got much softer after going in the mountain for a few miles with mine. Safety first!! I like the 661 knee pads. Someone is biking and crawling in the same day, we call that a Twofer.
Love your videos very informative keep up the great job
Excellent video and excellent upgrades, again, hi from Costa Rica 🇨🇷 🇨🇷🇨🇷🇨🇷
I swapped my reciever to a flysky amd its sooo much better ive also got cantilever suspension on the back an injora cherokee half cab with cage and 6 oz beadlocks its sitting as low as it can and its a beast it keeps up with my buddies scx10iii and its done right up
How about square out the front fender flares. Looks way better than how they come rounded.
If I had to chose between the two I’d say hands down the blue is the best looking. I must have watched over 100 RC videos and I’ve narrowed my choices down to either the Gen 8 or the enduro Sendero.
But no mention of BEC or servo comparisons listed in the links?
Best youtube rc channel, nuff said.
Where did you find the body magnets? Also any tips on which interior fits and works best?
Thanks for the ideas. I never cared for the Velcro, and I wouldn't really trust the magnets, so I just stuck the body posts in and got some clips for it. By the way, what do you think about the bfg a/t ko2 for crawling?
same.
Performance wise you need to put a brace in on the front axle to keep it from moving around so much.
Fantastic video again. I ordered a D-link brass link set to add some weight down low.
That is perfect. Weight down low will offset the big, heavy body and will allow it to keep up with these pickups.
Love the mod ideas with the bumpers and sliders, im gonna also grind the front wheel well brush guards to look more correct. I dont like how the angles dont match. Will also help bigger tires clear later on.
The stock brush guards are not good. Aftermarket ones will be made available we hope.
Can you put the things you used in the description? I think you forgot. Lol
By the time you add all the stuff.. how much extra $$$ are you talking about added to the price of the truck ...? Why not get a truck with those better add-on already with it ?
Great info, except the traxxas rx/tx. Their radios suck too, I run fs gtb you can see all trim adjustments on the LCD screen and 10 model memory.
Agree. The FS radios are a gem.
For a stock transmitter the traxxas ones are actually pretty good. I would have upgraded years ago if they were really that bad..
How about a video on working with styrene ? I'm going to be doing some more custom interior work this winter and could use some tips
You mention cutting the tire for better grip, you should make a vedio about wish tire too cut, and how too cut them... Think about it
hi, i changed my radio/reviever but i lost the auto brake from the ecs. even powering it in without the jumper and back on again with it it still doesnt work.
any idea what might cause that?
Your a genius👍🙂 excellent content my friend👍
Nice video of what can be done from the get go.
Sicc outro beat also...🎵
Thank you! The video showed the vehicle just with these basic mods. Most of them could not be done without these.
Just subscribed because you are informative honest and you speak a lot of sense.
Thanks for the video; I’m very interested in getting one of these. 👍
whats the best value receiver you reccommend for Gen 8?
do you guys eliminate the slipper clutch?
Hemistorm did a killer job of redoing this body. Have you seen it? Did you try to recalibrate the stock system?
Yes, we saw the Hemistorm body. That guy is skilled. Yes we tried to recalibrate the stock system. Just not enough reach. And we had two vehicles to test too.
Are you saying to change the receiver and the radio, or just the radio?
Change the receiver in the radio because they’re usually paired to each other
What size brushless motor will fit that truck?
Nice video! Can the Redcat gen 8 be converted to leaf springs?
I upgraded to a cheap 20kg servo motor cost 18.00. The trucks turn radius is now better than mu traxxas sport.
What causes this rig to be so loud? The drivetrain ?
Yes. The drivetrain and plastic housing are lower quality.
I put weights in my front wheels should I do all four
Always great tips. I'm going to apply everyone to my Gen 8. Keep them coming. 👍👍
Is this better than the traxxas
Just as an aside do you have a mountain bike youtube channel as well?
Nice vid man, I like your channel 👍🏻
Very helpful video, thank!
Really interesting that the steering issue ended up being the radio system.
That's why were so excited to put this video out!!
What do you mean in a. Bec speed control
Hey man great video. Gonna buy one of these for my sons birthday. What electronics were you using with the Traxxas radio. Hahaha, too funny, shoot for the moon. When i get mine, I'm doing everything in that video👍 your the man
Where are the magnets?
Redcat gen8 best( looking , rig .. today!! .. There's alot of tires out right now! MOUNTAINS Backyard RC.AND MORE. 💯🖒
which one is good redcat gen 8 or enduro trailwalker?
Trailwalker we think. Gen8 is due for an update. But if you can get it for a great deal like $250 then that would be the ticket.
emmm i confused hehe .the trailwalker is metal gear inside the gearbox ?
Is it better to keep 1.9 tires or 2.2 will also be a good option ? Thanks
1.9 for better realism and center of gravity. 2.2 is good for high speed and bashing but the Gen 8 is not really made for that.
2.2s way better.i run inflatables love them.
Awesome reveiw....good tip about the receiver.
What battery and charger set should I go with for the Gen8?
On the cheep what works. FCONEGY iMAX B6 Lipo Battery Balance Charger and a Zippy battery 2s or 3s the biggest one that will fit. A Hitec charger is recommended if you can spare the extra cash. I use a 8.4v nimh pack some times cuz there cheep and last for ever.
Tech NO City ok awesome thank you for the advice - I went with a 2s to start since I am just going to be crawling but will try that in 3s next!
What is the turning circle measurement after the transmitter upgrade?it looks a great improvement ,does it get anywhere near the trx4?
Yes! Within inches
What do you recommend for a total beginner? Redcat or Remo?
For a total beginner, a Traxxas TRX-4 Sport. It is virtually bulletproof.
Great review. They still need to learn on the designs.
Version 1.0 for a motivated new engineering team. They're gonna get it dialed on the next versions.

I'm new to surface vehicles. Will this work on the Redcat Gen8?
Traxxas TQi 2.4GHz 2-Channel Radio System w/TSM & Micro Receiver
Absolutely yes!! It will improve the steering too and throttle modulation.
@@RCReviewChannel thank you!
Great note on the RX/TX.
You have to cut the bumper posts to push the front bumper in enough.
Good job!
For sure. Thank you for that
Awesome review and hints. I need a g8.
Right on. Our goal is to save you time and maximize your RC fun.
Thanks for sharing. ..always interesting
It's all about the sharing

Thank you. Fun to get this car to its potential
love your videos..!!
👍subbed again your a smart fella
Thank you. We learn from others and try to share the info clearly.
The Gen 8 is really growing on me.
The chassis is sound and it is a stunning vehicle.
A Lot of asmr
Mod nr. 1: buy a TRX4. Just kidding :)
:) The Sport is legit!
