@@MarkDickinson Update. I think I killed my actuator. A few weeks earlier I was cleaning out the AC condenser with a garden hose and accidentally set off the hose when bending over the frunk with the tub removed and shot water at the actuator area. When I took off the actuator and looked at the back part (as shown at 3:38 in your video) I could see some water in there. Warning to others that these actuators are not water proof.
Excellent repair! A few years ago someone posted a video of Tesla mobile service accessing the trunk actuator cable by loosening one of the fender liners near the headlight. I can’t remember which fender liner side was accessed but it only took a few minutes for them to open the frunk that wouldn’t open otherwise.
@@MarkDickinson Is the battery 8 years and 100,000 or 80,000 miles? So many people sold their cars to companies like Carvana and got new Teslas for almost the same price.
the fact that nobody is pointing out how laughable this 'fix' is... i drive a '91 Ford, and have never once had to fix anything as ridiculous as this. you should be writing poison letters, not fixing a brand new car yourself.
Once you notice it is acting up tie said string to the latch. I don’t usually hold people’s hands but I guess I need to. Easy enough. Tie. String. To. Latch. 🤷♀️
Thanks for the tip and the time and effort to produce the video!
Stay safe and healthy!
String trick was a life saver. Using this video I replaced my main actuator. The part is now $106 from Tesla in late 2023.
Thanks for that update! Yeah instead of taking the whole dang bumper off!

That’s good. I’ve been slacking on vids but now the car reaching 70k I’m stuck with a potential out of warranty battery and no fsd

Please bro help find that video, I’m stuck with that, need to open the frunk asap! Where can i find that video, or instructions?
How to confirm if secondary is not failed
So how do you even get the frunk open if the actuator fails?
Exactly
have to open driver side liner above tire area and have to cut the actuator wire or pull with a long plier. There was a very short video for that
My cable broke on my model 3 of course the frunk
Any video on how to get the drunk open if you never got to put the string in before it failed? Like removing the bumper thing you mentioned?
oh thats a project!!!
How many miles you got now? I am in FL Hollywood, got my Tesla Y for my wife drove it for few days order one for me now!
Do a shot every time Mark says “frunk”
Crunk
10mm socket if you can find one, lol. That has become so cliché!
Btw, what does the secondary actuator actually do?
It’s a safety latch they both pull apart to release the latch to allow it to open.
@@MarkDickinson thanks!

👍🏼👏🏻🙏🏼
this video is utterly useless unless you tell us how you get the string in when the frunk fails and won't open at all
