Lively has the natural talent and IQ and he's also learning from Tyson Chandler but the rate this kid learns and accumulates experience is tremendous for the Mavs
His offensive boards late in game 6 were so crucial. He's been a beast on the offensive glass throughout the playoffs, and it has been amazing to watch. He's averaging 2.6 oreb per game. If I didn't know better, I'd think he been playing for years
What I think separates Lively from other Bigs such as Gaffort is his decision making and IQ... Gaffort often times only looks to finish when he receives the pass whereas Lively always has the eye for the open man which allows him to punish defenses who are trying to shutdown the rollman
I JUST REALLY LOVE how now everybody begin too see Lively, been seen his potential to click with Luka since the beginning of the season... Love how he even more brighter in playoff
The Mavs have a real chance to build a dynasty. Right now it's Luka & Kyrie. But at some point it's gonna become Luka & Lively. Because Lively DOES have 3 ball range...he's just gotta keep working on it and other aspects of his game before it's NBA ready. I'm hoping next year he works on his low-post game. Get comfortable backing guys down. Develop a steady 7 foot hook or push shot. I think that's the one part of his game where he still plays like a rookie...he gets the ball down low and it's like he's thinking "this is the NBA, I gotta be quicker & faster" but if he just settles himself down & takes a half of a second more to create his shot he'd be even better around the rim. So this step should be pretty easy for him. Then maybe the following year he develops a strong 15 footer jumpshot and maybe start testing his 3 ball range. And he'll be a pretty deadly pick & roller. Can roll with Luka and be a lob machine. Or he'll be able to pick & pop. But without a doubt, this guy is gonna be NBA All Defensive team for many years to come. His size, length, ability to bulk up (vs a Wemby or Chet who will always be pretty lanky), and his feet will allow him to match up with anyone and feel good about it.
@@de4ds1ghtcsgo94 hardy has a lot of potential, hopefully he is still here after kyrie and take that SG position, both lively and hardy have all star potential
Before the season they asked Scoot Henderson who was the player being most overlooked thats gonna make an Impact. And Scoots answer was Derrick Lively. Said he was gonna ipen a lot of peoples eyes.
I feel like you could do a video about the entire Mavs defense. I mean PJ Washington is out there putting dudes in pJail. There was several times in the 2nd half of Game 6 where PJ is on Shai and he forced Shai into a tough 10-15 footer that he misses. The work that DJJ did on PG13 and Chet is also very impressive. He was literally wearing PG's uni for most of that series. And you've got this 6'6 dude blocking Chet's 3 point shots while also being a menace to Chet whenever he tried to drive it. The Mavs are a legit ELITE defensive team. With Gafford & Lively you've got 2 excellent rim protectors who can do it in different ways. You've got 2 wings who are 6'6 & 6'7 who can guard almost every position. You have Kai playing aggressive defense and being the crafty veteran. And Luka is a big body just trying his best to get in the way & give his help defenders just half a second more to get into position...but he also comes up with timely blocks and steals. Then you still have more defense on the bench. Josh Green is a really solid defender who also brings a ton of hustle & effort. Maxi is a VERY under rated defender. For 6'10 he's really good on the perimeter & can switch on most players. Not a rim protector but will get his share of blocks. Dante Exum isn't a great defender but he's a willing one...even though bigger guards like Shai can put Exum on his butt. But we haven't even seen the rest of the defense. O-Max, the late 1st round pick who spent the season with the G-League, is supposed to be a VERY good defender. He's like 6'9, 7 foot wingspan, really good athleticism. He's supposed to be this 3 & D guy who can work off the closeout with a drive & dunk.
Rumors say that the Mavs are trying to develop his shooting skills and that he's already practicing corner 3s. Imagine he suddenly pulls up from deep against Gobert. That would be a game changer
If He manages to Hit the First or Second 3 it would bei enough to give gobert the Feeling He needs to guard Out there. And then IT will BE easier to make wolves collapse
Its crazy how the Mavs are getting this much coverage. Going through the season it felt like we were always cast aside and forgotten about. Now there is a dedicated video about D-Live, damn feels good to be a Mavs fan
this biggest thing abut lively is his mobility and his defensive IQ. He hears the communication, he's rarely late on assignments, and moves his feet well enough to keep in step with players who turn on the gas. Gaffords got a similar skillset, both are invaluable to the team
I think my favorite aspect of his game is his willingness to screen and roll over and over. There are times where he'll do it 3-4 times in one possession. I don't think most people understand how tiring doing that is.
We can also add to that how calm he is. OKC wanted to do hack-a-lively and he make them pay for that by shooting most of his free throws. He had also some clutch free throws in game 6 vs OKC.
He's got an infectious energy every minute of the game. Keeps players motivated. Hope he keeps it up and I cant wait to see what he looks like in his 2!d year.
I've been able to watch damn near every minute he played this year and he's remarkable. You've touched on many reasons why he's special and gonna be a problem for the rest of the NBA for a long time. But the thing about him that impressed me the most is how fast he picks up on things. Like his 1st time against the Celtics and KP. Lively was getting worked on by the veteran big man in that 1st quarter. In the 2nd quarter it was about even. But in the 3rd you had Lively dominating the matchup. Took Lively about a half to get used to KP's game and to shut it down.
