One of the things we respect about you. Yeah... you're a man in the commercial end and trying to tackle that portion. Yet, you're willingness to help the common folk isn't like the typical "Commerical Beekeeper" that look down on folks like ourselves and others. You seem to be working for the greater good all around.
Keep up the good work and don't bust your hind end on that ice!

Any back data you have stored on El Nina weather patterns for your operation should be used for your coming season and yeah its a BS winter here in Georgia as well, luckily we have a nice pollen bloom on Maple and henbit in the peanut field. Keep plugging at it, you do a great service for beekeeping and some rewards will eventually come.

The red and silver maples are opened a little early here in the bootheel of Missouri. Been hitting huge 50's to low 60's. Just hope it's just an early spring and we don't have a cold snap that wipes everything out.

Crazy ass weather here, too. We haven't even had a winter yet. Zero snow, which makes me concerned about dry conditions in the spring.

We had rain in White Fox Sask about 3 days ago while it was -9 It left a Slippery slope .
Its -8 today and the bugs are at 23 deg in the R20 Wraps .
I put feed on top of the cover (fondant bags) as i've never seen such crazy weather and am not sure the effect on feed stores .

before realizing it was owls on your mug , i thought it was cheetah print , n i was like omg i need that!
and yes the bees! i live in new hampshire. ive been thinking about beekeeping and researching it for several years now. i dont have any i keep, and that doesnt stop me from letting my yard run growing wild wonderful weeds. mostly all since i started gardening and then went all nature treehugging crazyy and stopped mowing most the lawn. i also love honey-related foods/beauty products anything like that. i think i can do bees, id like to try at least. ive been observing the honey bees, all bees really. im so in love watching them do their thang. it made me grow to love spiders and other bugs just by simply watching flowers and everything. i want beeeess i think i can do it
also i have cats so bees shouldnt be an issue ?? lol
ps im a new viewer and maybe im weird but sounds like you have a slight irish accent, is it normal for your area? im from new englasd usa so i hear canadian accent frequently and it does sound very british in some words. yours seems slightly off from what i hear from other Canadians. youre also slipping around holding the camera n coffee so maybe that played a part. good job by the way not falling on your ass lol

    • @Tigenraam

Normal Manitoba accent. Bees shouldn't bother the cats, if the cats bother the bees they'll learn not to pretty quick! Probably shouldn't keep cats outside anyway.

🤔Imagine the World of beekeeping sharing information like we do on Live Chats.
The No Life Beekeeper and Stream-Team Lives along with many others have become great "Town Squares" for beekeepers from all over the World. Beekeepers just wanting to share information and experiences about the bees. No one looking to gain over another, just the free form sharing of honey bee information and individual experiences.👍 Keep up the great work Ian.

Beekeeping isn't that challenging, but I don't keep bees on a barron landscape in August and September. Employers and the steadily increasing cost of sugar are far more concerning to me than keeping bees alive. Social media isn't that hard to navigate as long as your self-worth isn't based on likes and views like those young girls dancing in front of the camera for attention. I'm not joined at the hip to my cell phone, I started down that path, but then I realized the addiction I was developing and I didn't want to waste my life sitting on my ass in the arm chair. The phone can sit on the nightstand all day, and I can stay plenty busy without it cursing me. Fishing, hunting, tinkering in the shop, riding or trolling on the internet, I'll take the former any day.

To me, the elephant in the room, as it pertains to bee health, is what commercial bee keepers have done to bees in their narrow selection.
I believe the selective breeding has reduced the strength of bees, thus making them susceptible to diseases and stress.
Today, bees are selected for calmness, ability to produce large amounts of eggs, produce off spring that are aggressive in bringing in nectar and pollen, and consume less food stores in the winter. These few selected traits are for the benefit of the commercial and hobby beekeeper
I believe this practice has reduced the diversity among bees and their resistance to diseases and other stressors.
This is just a gut feeling. There is no cited research to back up my claim.
Note: I do keep bees as a fun hobby. With a name like Beekie you have to keep bees. This started with my grandfather.
