This video convinced me to purchase a used SDB and helped me to quickly get it up and running. I absolutely love this machine and even used Graf & Sons for my last big powder purchase. Thank you!
Dude its 2017 and I just bought a Square Deal B tonight (10/08/2017). Then found your video on UA-cam about the press. With watching your video I think I'm going to love this press. You were a joy to watch. I would have a beer or a Coke with you any day. Semper Fi!!
Well, if you don't seat a primer, you're right. The machine will still drop powder in at the next station, and some of that powder will blow through the flash hole in the primer pocket, falling down in the machine. The only way to clean it out is to partially disassemble the machine and clean it out. As long as you're not smoking a cigarette or otherwise have some sort of open flame or spark source near the machine, there shouldn't be any safety issues.
Good video. I've been using the square deal for several months to load 9mm and 38 special. It works real well and is easy to set up for different calibers. I found that it needs to be cleaned well as powder will sometimes get into the primer feed system especally if you use a fine grain powder. But it is very good for the money. Lee is cheaper but it doesn't work as well as the square deal, in my opinion.
FYI, if you fail to seat a primer for any reason, you'll notice it immediately (once you know how it feels). If that happens (and there are a number of reasons it could), don't be afraid to remove the locator button, slide the cartridge out, and check for yourself before you crank the handle again.
Excellent video man. Really a nice job, hit all the important points about reloading. I especially like your points about poorly seated primers. If its not seated right, it's done, period. Toss it. My son-in-law and I use a 550B at his house and its great. I was thinking about getting a press for my house and the Square Deal B just might be the one for me. Thanks again.
As a fellow thinking of getting into reloading I found this video very useful. Thanks for the details. Also liked a few of your other videos too. Subbing. -FSC
Thank you for a great video! I've watched a dozen or so videos on loading so far because I want to get into it but don't have a lot of knowledge and you were the first to throw some pretty damn important safety tips ( improperly seated primers ) that are pretty common sense if you think about it but I've never really thought about it. Thank you again and I will be following you from now on.
Use a inertia bullet puller yo save yhe bullet. Possibly could put it in the puller backwards and get a primer that is in the little to come out, not sure cause primers are so light though.
I was looking @ the 650 and a die change set up/tool head (.45/38spl-iCORE). But I have been thinking about just buying two Square Deal B's and not having to mess w/the caliber change and all that it entails. Hum/still thinking. Thanks for the video, I learned a whole lot. Jim
Whether I get a reloader or not this vid was helpful. I really want a Dillon though and I primarily shoot pistols so this seems like a great reloader for me.
The ONLY thing you didn’t touch on was how difficult is it to switch calibers ? I want to load: 9mm & 45ACP I know the Dies must come from Dillon (doesn’t bother me) OTHERWISE GREAT VIDEO !!!!! THANKS !!!
A few needed edits to your video: Station #2 has THREE functions, not two, as you state at the outset. In addition to primer seating and powder drop, it also expands the case mouth("belling"). You state that the primers are in the feed tube anvil down. False; they are in the feed tube anvil UP.
wish you would have broke down the pricing of the primers, gun powder, bullets and so forth. I also would like to know what each round cost you to do, .20 cents or how much after all send and done. I was trying to figure this out after your first video and seems like it came out to just braking even at about 10,000 rounds.?? Maybe you could address this on the next one, great job other wise and sure makes it interesting thought of doing my own in the future.
i noticed in the video you only ran one brass through at a time, is that how you always run it? i was under the impression that you could run one brass in each of the four stations at once, thats how they get the high round count per hour.
Like your review and opinion ,will be using Slow is Smooth/Smooth is Fast, most of all your comments about safety and examples of primers that went wrong.
A dillon 550 with all accessories may go to 1400.. but none of the accessories are required (except dies of course) .. the SDB is about 437.00 and the 550 is 592.00 (with dies). That's a realistic comparison. Sdb is a great choice if straight walled handgun ammo is all a person plans to load. And there's a lot of accessories you can buy for the sdb that makes life easier through Dillon and others Anything else.. get the 650 :) Good video
As Long Range questioned, us newbs would like to know if all the additional "accessories" are actually a good buy. I noticed a vibratory case cleaner that I'm thinking about adding to the mix, but noticed it's close to half the cost of the reloader... hmmm. Do you have any suggestions on which accessories are a good buy and if so, are they reasonably priced with Dillon?
The square deal does not cover all the straight wall cases . I have a revolver it’s a 45/70 but that’s not in the square deal . Kinda sucks I have 5 of the square deal press they work very well .
Great review! Im looking at getting one to reload 45ACP, however a couple questions since Im new to this. With this set up that they offer on the Dillion webpage, what other essential "accessories" are needed to be operational, understood, I know to purchase the bullet components and powder. Again on the webpage when ordering it has all thes "additional" options that almost came out to 650.00 so if it all comes ready in one package are there really any other needed items?
How does this press compare to the other manufactures budget progressives? I have three calibers I want to reload... maybe 4 or 5 so extra dies are a MUST.
The Square Deal B can ONLY use dies meant for the Square Deal B. They are not universal and can't be interchanged with standard dies for other presses. Dillon of course, sells the dies for it.
When you have dirty brass do you de-prime with this press and then tumble the brass and reload or do you just tumble with the primers in the brass? I'm asking since de-priming and re-priming happens in the same step.
About dirty brass- where I live , we have a very fine silt In the soil. So i decap and run the cases through a vibratory cleaner before i put the case in the machine. The dies are too expensive compared to a cheap Lee single hand press with a decapper die. You can decap alot of cases while watching a movie.
Thanks for the great video, very informative. One question though, If you cycle the machine with nothing under the charging die, when you are starting a cycle for instance. Does the machine release powder? If not why not? Thank you
A case is needed to force or raise the cam mechanism to push the powder bar letting powder drop into the resized void. The the dual springs pull it it over the hollow die and the powder fills the case. Next stroke is the crimp die
The guys at the range said “gotta be a DILLON 650” they’re like 900 bucks here for just the press, nothing else. This is 600 with everything... so getting one 😉👍🏼
Great Video, I just start watching you. You explain everything very simple and basic. which I need. Keep up the reviews. Thank you, Michael AKA Mr. All Ways Right ( I all ways tell my wife that and she just laughs. Well I have everyone telling me I am All Ways Right LOL ).
the 550b price info is WRONG. the 550b comes with a cal conversion kit for around $470 before tax and shipping. then the cost of dies and other equipment you might need or want. for me i had to get the strong mount and its add ons for my bench so i can still use the drawers under the press. my press is mounted on the far right of my smallish bench so i had no place to put brass so i had to get the brass bracket on top of the strong mount. i decided not to half ass it and got the bullet tray as well. the price made me cry inside alot but its all quality stuff so i know it will last a lifetime. witch helps ease the pain as time moves on.
Thanks for stating the machines limitations right up front. You saved 31 minutes of my life. You however didn't save my eardrums. Drumstep's a bitch when you don't see it coming. ;
And that’s why I hand deprime and prime all my cases on a different tool . I have had way too many primers installed so badly on the dillon square deal it’s just better to do it the long way . I deprime all the shells first then clean the cases then prime them the run the through the square deal . Plus you do not get all the dirty shit from the cases on your press . If you like dirty shit on your press then go ahead and run it with the deprimer and the primer tool .
Great video however I have a SDB (Square Deal B) and the primer system was broken when shipped new. It took YEARS (3 plus) for Dillon to send me a new primer system. They said I could send it to them at my cost and they would look at it. Horrible customer service. Twice I was sent replacement parts for another press. The only way I got services was posting a negative comment on the Dillon forum. It seems to me Dillon has great customer service until they send out a defective product. Want to know how much fun it was reloading with no primer system or customer support? It was horrible.
thinking about one of these for 44 mag. I single stage all my rifle ammo. I had a primer go off in a progressive shotshell reloader when a piece of shot went into the primer seater. I shit my pants...
Who shoots a baby gun like the 45acp really ? Where is the 500 magnum or the 460 or 45.70 handgun revolver. I guess all the girls will shoot the baby gun like the 45acp .
im not one to write negative reviews and i like your videos but, with your intro as it is...you have NO respect to my speakers or neighbors. whats up? why so loud?
You are truly an ignorant Hell bound degenerate. The Romish or as it's called today the Roman Catholic Religion is not and never was truly Christian but hey go ahead and demonstrate more vial ignorance unto your own demise. You make yourself the FOOL!

LOVED this lesson.. This video is very helpful.. He takes it very seriously, and teaches well.

Thank you great video, the BEST I’ve seen on Dillion I have square d on back order can’t wait to get started Thanks again
Use a single stage to decap live primers.
A smart and thorough review. Really appreciate your input.
Thank you very much for taking the time to make this.
You can decap a live primer. Just don't slam it out of there. Nonsense warning.
FYI, if you fail to seat a primer for any reason, you'll notice it immediately (once you know how it feels). If that happens (and there are a number of reasons it could), don't be afraid to remove the locator button, slide the cartridge out, and check for yourself before you crank the handle again.
Hey Rich thanks for the video good to see ya
Let, Grafs know you got them a sale with your awesome video.

After a complete overhaul, and clean how many rounds do you recon a Square Deal will reload before it starts giving problems again?
Use a inertia bullet puller yo save yhe bullet. Possibly could put it in the puller backwards and get a primer that is in the little to come out, not sure cause primers are so light though.

Jim
Dont get two SDBs.. get 2 complete toolheads for the SDB which will allow you move from toolhead to toolhead without any hassle. Easy easy easy

It seems to me that you could have multiple rounds in the press at one time, increasing efficiency. Is that correct or is it not a good idea?
Can you reload 30 caliber carbine ?
A dillon 550 with all accessories may go to 1400.. but none of the accessories are required (except dies of course) .. the SDB is about 437.00 and the 550 is 592.00 (with dies). That's a realistic comparison.

Good video...very instructional!
Can you load 45 colt, to shoot out of lever action guns? And can you buy 44 mag dies and load those also? Thanks
The square deal does not cover all the straight wall cases . I have a revolver it’s a 45/70 but that’s not in the square deal . Kinda sucks I have 5 of the square deal press they work very well .
that intro make me not want to watch more, you seem very well rounded in knowledge and are very clear in presentation.
I like to deprime before I run the shell the the tumbler . Just gets the shell cleaner .

Not sure to buy everything (dies, toolhead powder dump etc) for my RL550B or just pick up a SD for .45ACP. Price is not far apart.
Excellent review. Thanks.
great vid, I purchase on about a month ago.
No. The case actuates the powder drop.
I just want to reload 9mm and .45, will this be good enough for me. What other parts will I need to make an easy conversions? Thanks
Yea
To go from one caliber to another you'll need a caliber conversion kit.
I like that.... he didnt shit talk lee. He merely said its not for him.
Great Video, I just start watching you. You explain everything very simple and basic. which I need. Keep up the reviews.
Thank you,
Michael AKA Mr. All Ways Right ( I all ways tell my wife that and she just laughs. Well I have everyone telling me I am All Ways Right LOL ).

Great video, and you put the EPIC in EPIC BEARD!
Jesus christ! You scared me with the intro hahah. Had my volume too loud to compensate for a soft spoken UA-camr before you.
THE PINK MIST! love the intro my bearded brother.
Thanks for stating the machines limitations right up front.
You saved 31 minutes of my life.
You however didn't save my eardrums.
Drumstep's a bitch when you don't see it coming. ;
Very helpful. Thanks!
Nice informative video. Thanks!
He was running one at a time to demo it

you can definatly run brass through the machine in every station!
Opted out 5 seconds into the video. No matter how good you think you are, why should I listen to that shit to get to the meat of the video?
Great stuff thanks for the vid.
thinking about one of these for 44 mag. I single stage all my rifle ammo. I had a primer go off in a progressive shotshell reloader when a piece of shot went into the primer seater. I shit my pants...
Tumble with primers.
How do you adjust the tool head on a square deal B 4 new dies
Qestion answered!
Get vid and thanks for the re,pad website great prices
I was wishing the speakers on my laptop went LOUDER!!
just got a dillon 550 price is 465 + 65 for dies and you are done.... check there web site (shipping was 25)
Thanks for doing this review. You really do have an awesome beard!
Who shoots a baby gun like the 45acp really ? Where is the 500 magnum or the 460 or 45.70 handgun revolver. I guess all the girls will shoot the baby gun like the 45acp .
can I pet your beard? Also, does having a beard increase your wisdom?
thanks
Try not to complain about his video too much. He's not listening to you. :(

WOW! I have an awsome beard too!
You do too much talking and not enough demonstrating.
Babbling nonsense. Totally useless.
