    I bought my Square Deal for $140, back in 1986-1990.
    Loaded thousands of rounds over the years.
    Love it!

    Very well done. I've had my Square Deal B for 20 years, rebuilt it once and still clicking along. I learned some new tips from this video, well worth 20 minutes of my time!

    I absolutely love my little square deal. Mine is permanently set up for my .38 special wadcutter target load. Great machine.
    Recently I have a 750 for the 9 mils. Also a great machine. I’m a sucker for Dillon.

    Just picked up a SDB after using a lee classic turret, and I'm blown away by the performance and quality of Dillon reloaders. Currently doing some tuneup to it, but I really enjoy reloading with the SDB!

    Nice video. Too bad I’ll never be able to set mine up since you can’t seem to stock the dies. Wish I knew that prior to purchasing a machine.

    Between 7:52 and 9:10, regarding overall case length, are the measurements correct? Initial measurement is 1.27 (1.278) book says 1.275, the shell is put in the press again and comes out a 1.265 and pronounced perfect?

    could also leave a sticky note on powder measure saying 230 gr FMJ 4.6 gr titegroup then you remember what it set for

      But then you eventually get what was outlined in the video, the powder hopper tube becomes occluded, and you now cannot see how much powder is in the hopper.
      Plus you have powder in a container that is not as secure as the original container, and no screw on lid.
      Removing your powder after each loading session is just good practice?

    This press is setup to load for .45 ACP......to run the best in a 1911 pistol you want a COL of between 1.250" - 1.260" to run a 230 grain round nose or a 200 grain lead H&G #68 SWC. The taper crimp runs best at 0.469" on a .45 ACP no matter what bullet you use.

    I have a Dillon Square Deal B and have caliber converted from 9mm to .38/.357, with the power die screwed in and the funnel/case mouth flare inserted it will throw a powder charge but won’t flare the case mouth of the .38 special case. Even if I screw the powder die in all the way in attach the powder hopper it still won’t flare the case mouth at all… can you help me with this issue please?

    should I use the dillon case lube with the SQ dies?
    will the resizer take out the bulge from shooting in a Glock stock unsupported barrel?
    can I and should I use chamber checker (like EGW) versus a set of calipers?
    do you recommend a LED light source for the SQ?

    The OAL in the manual was 1.275 and when you adjusted the die the reading was 1.265 and you said "perfect". Do you need to be exact or is the variance acceptable?

    • @Jiminico
      @Jiminico 4 роки тому +1

      They should have tested it first by trying to drop a round in the pistol's barrel chamber to make sure it will fit all the way in and chamber properly before any further reloading. Even though in fits in the case gauge, passes that test in all ways including max cartridge over all length, my guess is that it won't fit all the way in some/most pistols due to the ogive of that type of bullet first coming into contact with the rifling in the barrel preventing chambering. They didn't say exactly what bullet and pistol they had, but I bet the rounds didn't work at that length and they had to seat bullets deeper afterwards. With some bullets I have to go down to 1.200. The 1.275 is more of a max mag length COAL.

      Dude no disrespect but that's bad advice there are a lot of new reloaders that watch these videos.
      Seating the bullet deeper changes pressure especially with 9MMS.
      If your loaded cartridge fits perfect in your case gauge but not in your barrel then tweak it to your liking but please refrain from giving that advice on here.
      Just saying

    • @Jiminico
      @Jiminico 4 роки тому

      @@allenhuebner6251
      Sure, I agree that in general seating a bullet deeper will increase pressure. And here they are loading 45 auto, not 9 mm which is a much higher pressure round. Not that it matters here, for the main point I was trying to make and the usual prudent recommended reloading practice is to always make sure the rounds will fully chamber properly in your gun before you go off and load a boatload of crimped ammo on a progressive press. And they didn't do that.. a major oversight!
      Obviously these videos are more to show setting up the machine than as a reloading guide or tutorial. If you pay attention there is a lot of quick on the fly extrapolation going on here and mistakes and they didn't exhibit enough due diligence in coming up with the final reloading specs. And I still say that those rounds will not chamber at their long length.
      They started out by getting an COAL for a different 230 grain FMJ bullet out of the Lyman manual. Then used the info from the Hodgdon site which has a bullet with a different ogive and nose profile, but does in fact list a coal of 1.200 and another load for a 230 LRN with a 1.200 coal. And it looks like they are using a Berry's plated bullet so they should've looked on their site for info which they would've recommended a 1.237 coal.
      Happy reloading to ya!

    Is 44 magnum and 44 special requiring 2 separate tool heads on this?
    Does Dillon offer .327 Federal mag for it?
    If this could do beyond 45 Colt case length like 45-70 I'd be buying this tomorrow.
    I'm going to get into reloading but probably straight walled cartridges mostly pistol rounds for my revolvers and lever guns. But 45-70 is on my future lever gun list and reloading is pretty much essential to frequently shooting one of those.
    Any advise would be appreciated

    • @geraldf.1222
      @geraldf.1222 7 місяців тому +1

      No, you do not need two tool heads for 44 Spec and 44 Mag.
      But, you have to ADJUST for each every time you switch back and forth.
      One extra tool head and powder die, seating and crimp adjustment bolt, and you can easily switch back and forth, once the adjustments are made.
