Land rovers are the best off road vehicles
Finally Manebhangyang and it's Land Rovers get a much deserved media attention ... Sandakphu and Falut (12000 ft) are the beautiful peaks from where U can see the Kunchendzonga up close ... It's a trekkers paradise !! N yeah they din show U the final near vertical hair pin turns wen ur bout to reach Sandakphu... It's just crazy ... Well finally glad to see Sandakphu (Darjeeling) covered by Autocar!!

Darjeeling is the hub of old Land Rovers , some date backs to late 40s n 50s . but due to constant terrain beat over the decades and environment concern these majestic true raw 4x4 are getting phased out slowly. Recently DM banned these cars from Sandakphu . Also would like to mention Samantha is the first certified Land Rover Coach in India. How beautifully and easily she was steering the car in the narrow up road . Most men would never dare or would want power steering car .
Rahul Sengupta they may be classics and i get your feelings but the norms are for our health and ssfety. These cars are too raw to be on the road now.
Thanks a lot was there in 2000 for a trek such a beautiful place away from the noise , hustle and bustle of busy life and still these beasts are ploughing on that roads and the beauty

I went to sandakphu from Darjeeling with this old land rover!
only vehicles to reached sundakphu.. old British land rover. i have been there and its worth to visit this place once in a life.

Finaaaally......after all those "crazy driving stories" of North India flooded in UA-cam, someone do appreciated the hardship of driving in eastern Himalayas of West Bengal :)

Done this Road in my pulsar Rs200 in June last year.....this is father of all steep off-road.... unfortunately bikes are banned now...

I went 15km more from Chitre on my RTR 180 on 13th Dec "17, and 2times on LandRover, from "19 it is banned for Riders.
Its the toughest road for the Biker in India I can tell, coz for last 6km has Death Risk on every inch. But obviously a lifetime experience.
Thanks for bringing that portion of india to the focus of the auto enthusiasts, as I hailed from there I always knew the kind of skill needed to master those roads and I used to tell all my other friends about that experience but now it just got validated because of you people. Thanks for that.

In the year 2003 I went from Darjeeling to sandakphu trakking it was awesome.

The best way to not phase out these Classic off-road rigs is by making them electric,because electric is clean and very easy to make it drive through,even though I prefer and love internal combustion engines as a car enthusiast

The military was in demand of a lightweight car but they also have demands for some tougher than normal parts.
In the end the “Lightweight” was more heavy than the standard series.

I suggest u guys to have a taste ride to darjeeling through pankhabari the craziest road
A 2a would need double declutching, which may explain the trouble changing from 3rd to 2nd gear! No syncromesh on those gears.

Rohan Lawrence D'souza Jeep Trailhawk edition can probably do it. Or the Jeep Wrangler 2 door Sahara edition. Don't think about Compass Limited which is available in India. I don't think any G Class owner will take his or her car there.

Most of the LR has Mahindra Engine customized as per the driver I have been.
Folks wanted to do this road make sure you have Range Rover or something with true 4x4. You will definitely need low range gear box on this road. It's that stéep. Good luck

This place is like heaven guys. If you haven't been to Sandakphu then this place should be in your bucket list.

Yes you can they are mainly used to transport tourist in this hilly area for the last 70 years.
You can take a ride from manebhanjan to sandhakphu in north west Bengal, and it cost around 4000 Indian rupees.

New land rover does not requir drivers skill...there is no actualll enjoyment for the driver to show skill in new land rover due to its automatic

kuruvila James once TATA went to Ford to ask to purchase TATA motors car segment,when model of indica failed,Ford made fun of TATA and questioned why you entered when you don't know about cars,Ratan Tata returned and made indica success and also TATA MOTORS,Land Rover and Jaguar were subsidiaries of Ford, Land RoverLander and jaguar performed very poor and fame went down and started making losses for the Ford when they were in the hands of ford,in 2008 TATA purchased that loss making Land Rover and Jaguar and put them into success path again,today Land Rover and Jaguar we are seeing is efforts made by TATA,so future will be great for Land Rover and Jaguar because behind there is TATA.
