Ofcourse, fca is fooling people around offering such a low quality car at a price that high, its overpriced in the USA itself, and over-overpriced in India. If the price was equivalent to fortuner, wouldve been much better. Its like a fiat 500 or beetle, a second car for people who dont care about their money, and will only run those cars on weekends/emergency.
Because of the huge brakes and rim size of the defender you can't even put a proper high profile off-road tyres in that, it is almost impossible to modify or have a lift in it
The rich interiors of the defender are made from High-end "Quarter" microfiber clothing(at least you find the same in Velar) credits all to Gerry Mcgovern design director at land rover.
Defender would be my pick any day. Because its a great package all packed together off the road and on the road. And the looks are mind bogglingly phenomenal.

In western markets there is no comparison between the two. Defender is a different segment, different type of vehicle. The regular Wrangler is still basically white man's Bolero. G-Class is an overpriced rich person's toy in every market in the world. No sane person does actual offroading with a Land Rover. The electronics die easily and cost heaps of money to fix, but on a highway Land Rover is top class luxury. The Wrangler platform itself is very interesting though, for example Wrangler Hellcat is a 700 HP muscle car wearing the dress of a jeep. I hope they bring all the special editions to India as well.
Nice to finally see a test in gnarly wet muddy terrain for a change rather than bone dry rocky tracks. A more fair comparison would be made if they were both on the same type of tyres as well

Off-roading with defender is scary at times mostly due to lack of articulation, after trying both off-road, I went with rubicon and happy with it, off-roading is much much more fun and confidence expiring. Also Land Rover dealers have no idea when next batch of defenders are coming, but rubicon waiting period is just 1 month, made in India

I would have gone for jeep Wrangler.. I love off-roading ... Defender should have given mud tyres as Wrangler.. Price consideration is more sensable in choosing my pic... ALWAYS I love autocar reviews since I started back 6+ yrs...
