I have seen a few different videos showing different ways to do sutures, but none describe which suture to use for different wound types or areas of the body and why. I'm only looking to learn the basics in case of a SHTF situation.
Well Damn, I had this done on my arm yesterday. The Dermatologist had to clean out some dead/necrotic tissue from an injury that I had a few months back. I got 7 stitches on top and 4 underneath. She was fast and clean, that is pretty much what it felt like she was doing. I asked her what kind of stitch she was doing and she said mattress.🤷♂️👍
@zoraackerman1684 yeah to be honest they do. Got my Cat spayed and they used a layered closure : deep dermal followed by subcuticular. Exactly the same as we teach in our videos on our page.
I wonder who else might’ve looked this up after watching mash episode, “Where there’s a will there’s a way“ when a Hawkfeye had to go to the aid station and they know he’s alive because someone came in to the 4077 with vertical mattress sutures. Apparently that was his technique to use white cotton thread sutures and a vertical mattress suture.
Follow the suture back to find which side of the knot to cut and pull. Doesn't really matter, sometimes you NEED to make multiple snips and pulls to fully remove the suture. sall goode, you got this.
Just 4. The where you start and come out on the otherwise then reversing it back in line with where you came out 2nd and where you started. They are 4 seperste tracts in close proximity
Each pass thru requires a certain "tensioning" that may (most likely) need a bit more or less tension than the previous or the next pass thru...sall goode, you got this.
EXCELLENT representation, very clear, no details missed . Thank you.
Loved the animation that showed the knot so clearly.
Consider throwing the first knot at the midpoint of the laceration to facilitate skin approximation and reduce risk of dog ear formation.

This sounds like a good idea!
There are separate videos for that. You can search them up specifically

Simple easy and helpful
Why we use this method for? Why not simple nodes
It is useful for deep lacerations, where it can replace two layers of deep and superficial sutures

Beautiful animation. Why do you need vertical mattress sutures for a shallow incision? Why not simple sutures? Just wondering
Helps hold the skin more approximated for skin grafting simple suture doesn't provide as much

at 1:36 when I do it, the wound doesn't tighten. I retried it and it still didn't work.
