  • Thank you to our patron Paul for this awesome pick for Yessaturday. There has been so many comments asking for this album and Paul made it happen so everyone say thank you paul... lol. This was awesome. A lot of the OG lineup is present for this and it is totally felt throughout. Jon's vocals aged like fine wine.... 30 years since their debut basically and he sounds almost BETTER its CRAZY. An epic beginning to the album. Now i want to hear more!

Loved this when it came out. It was made for a video game after the makers who were YES fans asked them to make a song for them. They agreed. The sound effects came from it. I feel like it was their last really epic song with Jon A.
Where to next... Off of this album listen to at least "Lightening Strikes" which is a short fun one where Chris kills it. "The Messenger" & "Nine Voices" which is a good Jon and Steve feature. Other albums.. "Magnification" if you haven't yet, The first album "Beyond & Before," "Harold Land," or "Survival." For non-Jon, listent to "Fly From Here Part 1,2, &3" with Benoit David on vocals. Non-YES YES listen to Steve's work on "Sketches in the Sun" or "When the Heart Rules the Mind" from the 80's supergroup GTR. Alan White's solo funk rock, "Ramshackled" full album is still a must.
Still a lot of YES out there!

This album "The Ladder" is a Masterpiece going into the 21st century! Certainly their Master piece in the 90's! I don't have it....but it is on my list to buy!!! I really love it!!!

So glad you finally got to hear this, Lee! I love The Ladder and if I wasn't broke I would have requested this song for you months ago. The producer was really in sync with the band and they sound great - shame that story had such a sad ending. Hope you keep exploring this album and look into the House Of Blues DVD to see this version of the band live.

Steve Howe plays lead guitar and Billy Sherwood plays rhythm. Igor Khoroshev was a great fit for Yes in the absence of Wakeman, though he lacked Wakeman's compositional skills, and he could perform all the big epics flawlessly live; "Awaken", "The Gates of Delirium", "The Revealing Science of God", etc. And Jon Anderson is simply a freak of nature, in the best possible sense. Still sounding great at the age of 79, with his new band, The Band Geeks. Kudos to Alan White as well. He was excellent on this album along with his battery mate, Chris Squire.

Now.....I know there a lot of young folks out who have become fans of Yes....I applaud you for that......however many of you like yourself do not want the group to evolve with the time.....and you cannot keep that mentality....because true artist like Yes....are always trying to find ways to evolve and expand their craft.....like what Yes has done for over 20 years.... we are in the 21st century with Microwave mentality among young people so make their music more relevant and heard Yes cut down the many long extended transitions making their music listenable to a Microwave young society!!!! And this song and album, "The Ladder," like "The Big Generator," are Masterpiece album for this time.....and that is the way it is.

All the tracks on The Ladder are great. I wish you would just go straight through them sequentially. The Jon Anderson song you did the day before this one reminds me of Lightning Strikes, the 3rd song on The Ladder. Please do this whole album! You'll be the first, I believe, to react to them on UA-cam!

  • @gregjones861

Lee: Looking at your Yes playlist, it looks like you still haven't reacted to The Calling, which is the opening track from their Talk album. That's my suggestion. This Homeworld was a great one to react to, as I consider it the last truly strong Yes composition that is filled with surprises that all serve the song. As for some more member's solo work reaction suggestions, try Statue Of Justice from Rick Wakeman's Criminal Record album. Alan and Chris are on it and absolutely SMOKE! Plus Trevor Rabin's song Can't Look Away is huge. Keep up the great work bro - I live for these Saturdays with Yes.

Great song! I either like or love every track on this album, except for the last two and even they are decent, listenable songs. This is a very upbeat album, and my favorite is a Rocker called "Lightning Strikes." It's pretty hard. ❤😀✌

Best song by far on the album - hints of past glory there. Most of the others are rather forgettable. "Can I?" and the closer "Nine Voices" are also pretty good but are all too short in duration. As far as future recommendations go, while the album "Open Your Eyes" is trash, some of the Keys to Ascension studio tracks from the mid-90's are definitely worth a listen.

YES’s The Ladder experience two tragedies when 1st) they’re producer Bruce Fairbairns died during the final mix (I believe) he didn’t show up to the studio & Jon went to his home & found him dead. 2nd) on the Friday night before the 9/11 terrorist attack they performed at Madison Sq. Garden & then The Ladder was released on 9/20/2001 a week after the attack, & both of those things worked against the release of another wonderful YES Album.
    YES IS BEST!!!
