    Why does the metal mounting bracket not come with the full Tacoma kit?? The mounting bracket is necessary and should have come with the kit. I just installed my Redarc controller today and I just zip tied it under the dash for now since the bracket did not come with the kit,. Now I have to order the bracket and take my dash apart again to securely install it. This is extremely frustrating.

      The 'bracket' is a common generic piece. Go to any hardware store and ask for the hardware aisle, tell em you want a small corner bracket or strap. Should cost about 2 or 3 dollars. I had a pack of 4 sitting on a shelf in my garage from an old project, it worked just fine.

    Well, I bought a Tow Pro Liberty, and the Toyota dash plug and the cables. Watched this video and went out and knocked it out. The only variation between the video and my installation; the lower switch panel insert can not be installed with the switch in it. Your video used the upper one. Put the insert in and then the switch. I'll leave alone accessing that little ground bolt, but I got it done and your video made is a breeze. Thank you for the video which matched my 2020 TACO Double Cab Limited. I will most definitely recommend your product. Thanks again, You were complete and steady and no stupid background music.

    It's a video like this from a manufacturer that really seals the deal with selecting a brake controller. The only thing I see off the bat that's different is that my 2019 Tacoma Pro does not have that upper row of switches or switch blanks. It's a cubby. The only blank I have is the odd-shaped cutout to the right of the 120V outlet switch. I wish you made a blank which fits THAT cutout. But I'm sure I can manage with a Dremel or something. It looks like maybe the TPSI 007 blank might actually fit that space? If so, it would be awesome to include that as a mounting/blank option in your video. But otherwise, great job!

    2021 TRD OR. Great video!BUT I forgot to order the bracket. Went to depot and bent an L bracket straight. Grabbed a couple fasteners with locking nuts. Turned out exactly the same. Would’ve definitely have gotten the bracket had I known. But if anyone else did what I did or wants to save a few bucks. There’s a solution at depot.
    Think this would be better if they were sold in vehicle specific bundles with everything you need.
    On my Tacoma I had to order a different dash insert than the one provided. I also wasn’t interested in the universal wiring harness and ordered the vehicle specific. Excited to see how well this tows!

      Hi Eric & Julie, thanks for your comment. Certainly the Tow-Pro brake controller will be compatible with your year/model Toyota too - it will be the harness we choose to install it with that really matters. Luckily, the wiring will be the same on yours - you will need TPH-015 to successfully install the unit. The switch insert should be the same as in the video too.

  • @vicpdx
    @vicpdx 2 роки тому +1

    I fell for it. I missed the comments at 00:15, three critical peices are needed to complete the install. They are SOLD SEPARATELY, totaling about $288.
    The switch insert I managed to drill hole into the blank insert and saved $13.70 (Amazon price Sep '22). The mounting bracket, not sold on Amazon, their website lists it for $24 (back ordered), got around the bracket by using bolt and zip ties. The wiring harness, oh my gosh $32. I hope the folks who assemble the harness are paid a living wage.
    In the end the video says you will be done with the install in half an hour! Bonkers. May be for a professional or someone very familiar with Tacoma. It took me half a day, adding insult to injury.
    Wonder how much money they sank into this curated content. If they shifted that budget to clearly calling out these extra required parts are sold separately and at a reasonable price I would be their life time customer.
    Instead every time I look at their logo on the switch I will be reminded of the bad experience regardless how good their product may be.

      If you watch other videos you find that there are options to buying all that extra hardware that anyone with a garage full of stuff can make work. Don't need the bracket-Don't need the pretty insert, but would be nice if reasonable. All you need is a drill, dremel, that $20 cable, and some grunting and swearing if needed. Nothing is easy. Everything takes three times what you reasonably think it should take. I think that is an amendment to Murphy's law.
