In our recent exclusive with Jordy, the founder of the ShoeZeum, known as one of the biggest sneaker collections in the world, we were able to get some pertinent information on how he was able to acquire some of the rarest sneakers in the world. The Nike Waffle was Nike's first sneaker ever created decades ago, being designed gy Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman. Surprisingly, one of the prototypes is in Jordy's possession and we got the inside scoop on how he got it.

First of all how do u know if this was the very “first” Nike ever made? Just from a story? Hell if a story could authenticate stuff I think we all be rich right now. A pair of 1972 Nike Waffle Racing Flat Moon Shoe sold for $437,500 US in an auction at Sotheby's New York this week.
Bowerman made thousands of these “prototype” spikes/shoes... In fact he had a lab for it and was known for testing his prototypes on Oregon Track athletes... And he coached there for decades.
Being from Eugene, Oregon, this was a great video to watch.

Well it is great that these shoes go in hand of these people, as they represent a piece of history and these people preserve that. It's like what Mayor said, the worth is set for the one who is buying. I won't pay $100,000 for a shoe , only a shoe collector will buy that, not me. Shoe collectors with a lot of money and with the knowledge of shoes at this level are counted maybe with 1 hand in the whole world. This dude exaggerates like his prices like no other and people are seriously gonna believe when he says they're worth $100K?! Common sense is the sense that's not so common. An item is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Thus, it is worth the $1700 he paid. He's good at convincing the weak-minded that his "knowledge" is up to snuff. We all have access to Google.
Resale market don't work like that especially for people that are into sneakers. He paid 1700 because the people he bought it off didn't have knowledge of what they were holding. They set the price at that. If they had known what they had, they would've sold it for 50k.
In other words, intentionally scammed? He compared the price to a PRE model and then comes back around and says 100K. That's scamming. It's all a moot point since no one would dish out 100K for them, not even the owner. Thus, they aren't worth said amount. The CURRENT value is $1700 and not a dime more until they are sold again.
The sneaker aftermarket absolutely works in this fashion. The reason why high priced shoes sit in stores and online is because no one is willing to pay the outrageous prices. Buyers dictate the value of an item. It's always been this way, always will be.

lilturk726 You may be right but until they are for sale, the current value is $1700. As he said, there is no market value to compare. Thus, there is no bases for the $100K stamp. If we're speaking in hypothetical, do you think he has the fortitude to list these for .99 (or even $1700) and see what the buying public is willing to spend? I'm sure a guy who's selling an SB collection for $85,000 would never embellish on his pricing of a grimy single shoe....that no one at Nike wanted. Let's not forget, he knew who to reach out to and was still ignored.
primeradriver Fair point, the 100k stamp might have been stretching a bit, but to be fair _if_ the shoe is what he says it is then we can agree that it should be worth more than the $1700 he paid. I mean the Yeezy's are going for $3500 right now and this should be worth more than those IMO. As you said though, it depends on what the public is willing to pay for it.
