    Since I started this tier, setting expectations is a pretty big deal. I had doubts about my first static since I wasn't sure how good they were and I wasn't sure where I stood in terms of skills and what I could reasonably scale up my expectations for speed.
    My second static after it dissolved answered a lot of questions about etiquette and expectations. Members would talk about openers, discuss strategy. plan mitigations for the timeline, and call on discussions about mistakes and areas of improvement. It felt like everyone else had experience and I got a better idea of how to improve and what expectation I could reasonably set for myself. Which became evident with a group, being a more midcore: we take our damage and strategy seriously but meet less often compared to a hardcore static due to personal life availability.

      that second part is exactly how my static is, the group expectations being set early makes such a difference.

    I had a TEA static once. It was actually my first ultimate static. This was a casual group and most of them were chill. 2 months pass and we were at Perfect Alex phase at that point everyone was getting burnt out and morale in the group was dwindling. But we still try to make it more fun by chatting and making jokes and all. Our DNC was the one always trying to pump up everyone up every pull and I really appreciate her for this. But she was actually the most burnt out in the group.
    At almost the end I stopped talking and our leader talked to me about it. I was kinda like the class clown of the group. So I think he was kinda surprised. I said I just want to focus in progging. Sadly if I start talking I tend to lose a bit focus and sometimes cause a wipe in the group. He laughed and said it's ok if that happens let's try to make it fun for everyone. Such a great guy but I stood my ground and became quiet until we cleared it but during that time it became like a chore progging instead of enjoying it. I started talking again after the first clear and it became fun for me again.
    That was one of the best static I ever had. Your video made me appreciate it so much that I had to tell it's story. Thank you for this

    Really good etiquette tips! Especially with commitment, and C-O-M-U-N-I-C-A-T-I-O-N!!!
    And yeah, Setting Expectations at the beginning is SUPERRRR important.
    Changing things up if you hit a wall, and stop progressing isn't necessarily wrong, but it's definitely a decision made with everyone's input, and you give a LOT of notice so it doesn't feel like it comes out of nowhere.. I've lead a few Static/Raid groups, and I've been in that REALLY tough spot when you have that one player, who is just playing very poorly, and is either unable to, or REFUSES to improve. It sucks, but doing nothing will usually lead to wiping to the same mechanics/enrage on the same fight for WEEKS, and that can just make everyone else frustrated, and cause compounding issues.
    However, in your specific example, if they were already on P4s I doubt that was an issue. (Also, this late into the tier, you might as well commit)

    • @Aitherea
      @Aitherea  2 роки тому

      The person who got kicked also mentioned that they were the one doing call outs for the first half of the fight that they had learned. Sooooooooo. At least in this case, it probably didn't have anything to do with playing so poorly as to wipe the group repeatedly. If you can do the callouts, it's safe to say you know the mechs.

    Also maybe it's something I picked up from the military but you should always show up to something 30-15 mintues prior to when the event is to occur. This way that 10 minutes where if you need to get a replacement happens before you actual prog time starts you can make an adjustment and not waste anyones time.

    • @Aitherea

      I dont need people to show up early, I'm happy as long as they're on time. A lot of my team is online 10 mins or more before our start time though, so I'm able to invite most of them and get the ball rolling. My team is also pretty good about giving me enough notice to get subs before raid time xD

      People showing early isn't necessary but if I get only 10 minutes notice on unavailability and it's not an absolute emergency I'm gonna be pissed. "I'm running a little late because of X" is fine for shorter-term notice (though context dependent) but if someone's straight up unavailable I need to know as soon as possible so I can look for a sub, especially once a tier is going because you start to get schedule conflicts with those potential subs.

    i was looking for people that just want to tackle hard content, found a group that was pretty much into it an now im raiding with my static for like 7 months, every day in the evening - we are not hardcore but we are consistent and with that we got the clears, right now we are still at p8s but everyone knows we will get the boss down eventually.
    Its a nice feeling and nobody thinks about blaming somene, misstakes happen and you need to train yourself and others on mechanics.
    we dont judge on parses, we dont care if we redo it, we just gather every evening to have fun together and it words great and success comes with time

      That is such a lovely group! My group is current on phase 2 of p8s and i think we have a similar vibe. Sometimes people get upset with their own mistakes but no one is really out here blaming one another or creating a negative environment so that's awesome \o/

    As someone with MASSIVE ADHD who both needs callouts and doesn't know how to stop myself from running my mouth, here's a tip: Literally just turn your mic off. Even if it's just for a couple pulls. If you find you're talking a lot and being a distraction, turning your mic off (even if everyone else is still chatting) doesn't just keep you from contributing to the chatter, it changes your headspace and helps you focus (knowing you can't participate kinda helps you tune it out, which helps keep you from getting distracted. It just turns into white noise)
    If you are a raid leader or officer in a group with a problem chatter (or if you're close enough friends with the person to not make it weird), it might be worth (respectfully!) discussing this idea with them in private as well, or even with the group as a whole if it's a widespread problem. The ability for the leader to call for a few "mics off" pulls can help re-center the group, especially when it's the last session of the week and you're really pushing for that clear.

  • @TheZGonzales
    @TheZGonzales 2 роки тому

    There are times where I wish I could go back to old groups I was a part of and see if there's been any change in proper communication/generally treating members well but then I think back to the "rug pulled out from under me" moments and go "Yeah...maybe it's better I don't go down those rabbit holes."
    My last group unfortunately split up due to a lack of communication/outlining what was expected of the group from the raid leader. Hopefully one of these days I'll find a comfy static or a psuedo static of fun people like I did during shadowbringers but we'll see. Excellent video! Definitely gonna share it with some of my XIV friends.

      I feel like, in some ways, statics can be just as difficult as PF raiding. It can be super hit and miss to find a static that suits your vibe/goals.

  • @eliofastora
    @eliofastora 8 місяців тому

    To add to this,its important to know how to tackle player-related issues as well.
    One of the most common issue that I've encountered is that tension builds up really fast when the team is stuck in a prog point for way too long. Then it snowballs to people holding grudges and issues that are not addressed right away. Which then has a potential to implode and ruin friendships.
    That's why some people say "don't raid with friends". Not because of the potential that it could ruin your relationship, but the expectations. You joined a static to commit to a schedule and goal to do and clear content. Fun is given, but if it hinders the group from achieving your group's goal, then tension builds up. It doesn't matter if everyone in the group are super comfortable with each other, because by the end of the day people don't want their time and effort wasted if the static is memeing and not progging. You'll burn out doing that.
    Tip : Keep a record of your wipes, and build a graph or just check fflogs so you can have an overview of which phases you are wiping to the most. Sometimes you will notice a trend. For example, if the group prog point is p5, but then you notice that in the previous sessions, your group is getting more wipes in P2-P3 day by day, then there's a problem. Sometimes you have to dig through who makes the most mistakes and talk to them. Sometimes its just a group thing and you have to be extra focused to get that prog. Sometimes you just spot the obvious issues and clear comms during cast bars like you said.

    People need to recontextualize and revaluate the interdependacy of what they do in raiding.
    As a schoolteacher, my time gets absolutely fucked by people with zero concept of keeping promises, good time management, preparation, etc.
    People are looking at others like utility they can use to get something they want.
    Not as people they need to be able to get anything done in the first place.
    People who can stick to the clear expectations you set are worth their weight in gold.
    Not the 99 parsers with an abysmal time to kill of 100+ hours on blind content.
    Not the blind proggers who get their gear then ghost you for reclear nights.
    Not people whose immediate response to feeling insecure is to lash out.
    I love this game, but I spend so much of my time educating children offline, FFXIV's raid scene really feels sometimes like educating children ONLINE.

    I have an incomplete static that will start off as soon as everyone has played through endwalker and it will be casual to midcasual/midcore depending on people's schedules. We primarily want to clear things for glam since we all do RP and we love gameplay as well :3. I made plans and a whole discord server channel that is uneditable with rules and what I expect of people. We don't want to do homework unless we hit a wall because I don't like elitist behaviour and judgement. We are friends and we have too many who have ADHD or people with bad memory so there will be 0 pressure because fun is over perfection. I'm not sure if I'm doing a good job as a newbie in being a static leader but I'm taking notes, learning, and watching videos by others. The main issue is we are missing 3 people still and the rest is getting to endwalker with everyone (4 people started playing only after endwalker released).

    By my own admission, I can be difficult to raid with. While I'm not one to lash out in angry rants, I tend to become burnt out if there isn't a measure of consistent progress, as I commit to raiding as a whole and take it seriously, with a heavy emphasis on clearing. When there's inevitably a lack of progress, I internalise those failures as being my own fault.
    In the case of my last group, I became fully burnt out because we walled for over a month on a mechanic I'd cracked the first time I saw it. It didn't help that 70% of our wipes at that point were from just two people who kept forgetting to do the mechanic. I eventually cleared, but I'm probably doing Anabaseios in either PF, or finding a group that'll better fit what I'm looking for.

    Why even bother looking for a static when everyone is treated as completely disposable? 90% of the time I'm either let go specifically (and I always ask why its almost never due to performance but some vauge thing they wont define) or the group falls apart due to bad scheduling.
    Why bother? it's doomed. Raiding is impossible if u want to do it with a static since nobody is ever going to have one, unless they have 7 real life friends who all play.

    My only story with joining a static was just before EW, they wanted to clear before the expac, I missed 4 days being sick (during the first wave of covid so I figured it was understandble) but when I got back they said they saw enrage so I told myself I really had to preform. Cut to never getting to the second phase of the thancred looking mofo fight and I spoke up and asked for quiet during raid pulls and for people to focus up, we almost cleared that pull. But after that night I got messages on discord saying I'm being kicked, despite seeing people come and go with multiple warnings. When she joined with her tank bf she was very entitled and rude. It was obvious she wanted to push us to HC high parsing. She constantly shit on me cause I maimed her old job rpr even tho she applied as dnc ( she didnt apply btw her bf applied and said and shes with me)
    After her attitude the rest of the group also started acting badly towards me as if this was normal. My idea of toxic has allways been somebody who makes others around them act badly too. The 3 of then would eventually constantly attack me, never voice chat and allways single me out and talk shit on me in my boyfriends dms about how aweful I was and that he should dump me. There attacks were so bad in legit didnt want to raid anymore because they would allways shit on me..
    She would also allways rage quit p4s when she struggled with a mechanic leaving us high and dry and when invited her for unreals she shit on us for doing time waste content and refused to watch a guide and demanded to go blind when the rest of the group was on enrage and would have happily helped her if she watched the guide

Usually, we would agree to try and get everyone to BiS, before we decide on the next goal together, that is to continue until a set time or disband.
    The only time I had to remove someone in the static, was due to his toxic behavior, being condescending, talking down to others, screaming just to get attention. Despite, some static members telling me to remove him immediately. I decided not to. Gave him three chances, pm him and ask if he's all right and all. (I know what some of you are thinking, you are doing too much - this is probably coz of my IRL profession, listening to ppl's problem). At the third time, I told him I had no choice but to remove him. Of coz, he was upset with my decision. Going around telling ppl his side of the story getting kicked by me. Those who knew the real story, sided with me. I could have go around and clear my name, with the discord chat that I had with him, but I'm too lazy to do that.

    There's too many static with dead weight member(too high or drunk to play) or mia member ( no show no call or player named never there).
    Expecting people to show up, learn the mechanic and fucking be sober enough to have a brain is not hardcore. It's the bare minimum to be casual.
    Disrespecting people's time(not showing up) should not be tolerated. In every hobby, if a person part of the team does not show up regularly, he is going to be kicked out.
    Kicking this person won't make you a bad person or anything. On the contrary, the people who come every week expecting to raid will be happy that you are taking the trash out. Everyone is always happy when they see someone take the trash out of the house/appartment. Does your significant other get angry cause you are taking the trash out ? Keep the trash in for too long and things will start smell, other vegetable(other members) will rot faster if they are not removed.

In my old group, we had a couple people who just had the 570 tome and normal raid gear, and made no effort to optimize stats or get the 590 gear because they were just waiting until they got the 600 savage gear handed to them.
      I'm not saying everyone needs to be BiS asap, but at least capping tomes and getting temp gear to make prog/farming easier feels like the least people could do out of respect to everyone in the group.

      They recycle mechs a lot, but for some of us a mechanic might still feel new because we've never encountered it before. For example, in the last endwalker dungeon of the MSQ (DE), you have to cure to full to get rid of doom. I didnt even know that was a thing. However, there is a lower level dungeon that has this mech, but i believe it is an OPTIONAL dungeon, so some peopel will never have seen this before! I literally thought you just got doom and died for being dumb or something but no, it can be cured xD Plus in terms of playing healer, we almost never have to use esuna, so whenever they throw in mechs where the healer has to esuna or cure off a debuff, it can take some time to figure it the eff out xD

    This is why I don't do statics anymore in any MMO! In FFXI my static was RL friends who were all cool about doing Dynamis and other content, then we moved to WoW and did good up until a little after Burning Crusade dropped. After that most of us just didn't have the time to raid full time on sundays anymore. We got married, had kids, college after getting out the military, or other RL stuff. The rampant abuse of newbies who wanted to join the guild/static. Static Leaders doing away with DKP and awarding gear to their favorites or family first that were in the guild. After I left wow and came to FFXIV alpha, beta, and ARR 1.0 the statics were ok at first, but as soon as ARR 2.0 released with more content, then some of that toxic thinking started to pile in. I left my static and haven't been in one since. I have been in some companies that were pretty good and very newbie friendly to new folks. But most I have been in were just downright dirty to newbies. After about 2 years now I have not joined any Company yet on Sargatanas. I may one day but not for any hardcore raiding. I just enjoy making gil for a house I will never get my hands on!

    static leader is the one who decided who gets kicked or not, that is why they are the static leader 😂 you cant expect the static leader to kick himself because he doesnt like a member’s performance from his own grp . How i look at it is pretty much you have an underperformer at work and instead of firing him you as president chair ceo w/e of the company you decide to leave said company because of 1 worker who underperforms instead of firing him is pretty much what you are saying.

    • @Aitherea
      @Aitherea  2 роки тому +1

      I understand where you're coming from, but I don't think this person was actually underperforming. In fact, the people who got kicked were dpsing better than some members who didnt. Not to mention the specific person who brought this to my attention was skilled enough to do call outs. If someone is truly performing really badly and can't or wont improve, then yes, they have to be "fired" if you will. But I think at the end of the day, this was a dick move by the static leader. If the people were performing that poorly, they should have been kicked ages ago.
