victoria, western same to same but the western has dark maroon on the shoulder and victoria is on the breast
and also western doesn't have those triangular feathers on the crest
They definitely need to be put in a breeding program, to ensure their future survival.
Breeding programs should be a last resort for species at immediate risk of extinction. They take a up a lot of resources, and will make less of an impact overall on animals with a higher population. If a breeding program can only hold a certain number of individuals, releasing 100 individuals into the wild is going to make more of an impact on a population of 200 than a population of 10,000 like this pigeon. At this point, the best thing to do is protect the species and preserve its native habitat and spread awareness.
Better to save their habitat and let them recover in the wild, sadly :(

It's a very big hobby, and I know a lot of people who would love nothing more than to keep this pigeon happy and living

In Indonesia, there is a similar bird like this called Mambruk, closely related to Victoria crown pigeon. Mambruk is an endemic Papuan bird live in the lowland tropical rainforest.

I had one of these follow me around for a while in an exhibit. Giant pigeon was very fun.
I got a new job at my zoo, and these birds were in the rainforest dome that we have. They're our friendliest birds. They usually walk right up to the guests, and with interpreters like us, they pick up dead leaves and sticks and drop them at our feet.
It's a shame they're neat threatened. They're wonderful! 🥰

another pigeon i didn’t know about. yesterday i just about the keremu, which is a very fat looking pigeon. if you haven’t heard about the nicobar pigeon, look it up. they are incredibly beautiful with iridescent long blue and green feathers. there are so many species of pigeons, i bet there are more i haven’t heard about :) 🕊️🌷🌱
