      Stanley Scrub: History hasn't been changed. This is an adaptation.
      (Also, it's strange to see someone vouching for historical accuracy with 1776 of all things, since it already takes some steep creative liberties to begin with. I suppose fools like you will bitch about anything, though.)

    Are people really complaining about historical accuracy? In 1776? There's a whole song based on the pun of going to the right, ever to the right... despite the fact that the association of conservatism with the right only happened during the French Revolution, decades after the fact. Jesus people, enjoy some damn fine music.

    I saw the final performance of the show on Sunday April 3rd -- it was magical. The actors were amazing and the musical numbers unbelievably strong thanks to the efforts of the singers and the wonderful orchestra. After four days of performance the ensemble was extremely tight and the timing was impeccable, and this clip (while excellent) does not do justice to the live experience. They brought the house down several times, and every audience member I spoke to was thrilled and blown away. Thank you for an amazing show!

    Santino Fontana is ideally suited to the role. I hope he gets to do a full production of 1776 someday. I guess I could put up with the modern dress - if there were more thought put into it. Couldn't Martha Jefferson have worn a gown? And Abigail Adams in a plaid flannel shirt and a hunting vest???

      For a concert performance in mufti, I have no quibble. It would be another thing if it were a full-blown costumed production because these are real people being depicted and if we're going to see one end of the spectrum complain about Caucasians playing Asians and Mexicans, then consistency requires that actors play historic figures who are of the same general ethnicity. And don't get me started on the asinine desecration of this musical with the "all-female" version that I have no intention of ever giving the time of day ever.

    • @Winaska
      @Winaska 2 роки тому +3

    I had the good fortune of seeing the original Broadway production. The voices in City Center are no match of the Broadway or movie versions (which used most of the original stage cast). I find the City Center vocalists to be out of tune on numerous occasions, not together, not even singing parts when they're scored ("Lee's of Virginia"). Jefferson's wife was the best of the bunch, and actually sounds a lot like Betty Buckley (original Broadway production). As much as I love the stage play, I wouldn't waste my money on this concert production.

      +UN Owen This isn't quite accurate. Yes, they put out casting calls for "non white" actors, however, there are white performers in the cast. One being the character King George, which has been performed by well established actors up to this point. They quite possibly have a few already lined up for their regional and touring companies. The other leads, however, need to be filled with mostly "non white" performers. Plenty of casting calls have gone out asking specifically for "white" performers, so I don't see a problem that Hamilton requests to take auditions from "non white." Again, that's an audition casting call. It does not speak to the ultimate racial make up of the cast. PS, I'm incredibly white myself!
