It’s good to hear John and Stewart on the same show. I’m glad they met. Two of my favourite people. Their soothing voices and calm manner influenced me growing up. Quite a contrast from the majority of people in my life growing up.
Ah, I fear that the Swedish Elvis was not edited out because it was not regarded as a serious musical work . BTW This show is total genius. I could listen to Lee and Herring (even in their callow youths filled with hope) talking to John Peel literally all day, during summer when the days are unusually long. Sadly, there can be no more.
The above comment is nine years old? Damn! I bet I’m too late to find out more about this fascinating heist of a schizo’s pants! I shall die unfulfilled…
Love that all the songs are edited out except for the Swedish Elvis. I assume the editor thought it was something that had to be heard to be believed in order to give the comments some context, but I found it totally amazing. I'm off to google the fuck out of him.... (edit...Eilert pilarm! it really is a thing!! And in those days you couldn't just make a record in your bedroom - you actually had to get signed by someone!! Unbelievable.)

Lee & Herring sound like they're on helium while Peel remains mysteriously normal. Great post thought
John Peel, Lee & Herring, possibly the nearest a radio show could get to perfect?
Brings back memories! I was a big Lee and Herring fan and remember listening to this the first time round.
I miss when you could hear this on the radio.
RIP
Wonderful cheers for the upload..Love the Swedish Elvis..Creased me up.
This is radio heaven.

Richard's voice still hasn't broken entirely
27:55 great Stewart Lee sentence
yep! just made my night. :)
BLOODY WONDERFUL!
Nice to hear a shout out to Stuart Braithwaite and Mogwai in their early days. I guess Peel was a big help to them.
regarding the chewed up fax with the name of the Trashcan Sinatras album at about 30 minutes, it was A Happy Pocket. hope this helps
richard sounds more like Peter Baynham as Fist of Funs - Peter from Balham
28 years old he was...

Ha. i thought Eilert pilarm! was some sort of swedish oath signalling disbelief (mein gott!). And now it is.
***** XD I shall be using it from now on!
Priceless stuff. I especially enjoyed the stories about "the breast" and "Tve Goodies". Lovely.
Great post from start to finish. Thank you, sunsheiiine.
(PS is your name a reference to Oasis?)
I think this was taped off the radio and the tape speed was slightly too fast hence the voices sounding a little perky...
Where's all the anecdotes about Thorpe Park?
No. Although I do love them all. R.I.P MR. Peel
You can fax us! Ah the joys of history
It sure is. Nobody says 'shine' like Gallagher Jr.
Jesus.. listening to this - you realise how much Radio 1 has changed. It's garbage now :(
It was mostly garbage then as well...John Peel was a shining exception.
Stewart Maconie? doesn't sound like Stewart Lee?
Absolutely everybody was a padeo in the '70s darling, abasolutely everybody... even Joan Bakewell. Mwah.
Peel sounds speeded up!
This has been sped up.
Worth listening to... and try to pretend it is a scripted drama.
Stewart Lee on MTV - the emperor has no clothes! I joke of course. I bum Stewart Lee...
