See that’s what I’ve been saying that a lot of people ignore. Andy was in much fight ready shape than AJ on that night. People talk about short notice 5 weeks. He had just had a 2 month training camp and a live sparring/fight session with Dimitrenko. He was so ready for war that night and AJ wasn’t, because he had nothing to gain from fighting Ruiz. The stars aligned perfectly for Andy Ruiz that night. AJ had not fought in 9-10 months, and had his original grudge fight with Big Baby replaced with this on 5 weeks notice. The only person that notice affected wrongly was AJ not Ruiz. He wasn’t sitting on the couch with a fat belly when he was called(he was mentally and fully fight fit). Actually he has openly admitted that he was chasing Eddie Hearn for the fight once Miller tested positive(he had studied and was ready for AJ). Everybody saw AJ in that ring and although he has made no excuses, it was obvious to see he wasn’t war ready.
    The 1st fight
AJ won the first 2 rounds by going through the motions(never got out of 1st gear in the whole fight). He then knocked Ruiz down in the 3rd for the first time in his career(a testament to not only his power but his skills). After that moment, he wanted to close the show and go home because he didn’t want to be in there really. When Ruiz clipped him in the temple, AJ was done, and he survived the next few rounds on just conditioning & a warriors survival instinct. I was so upset by this loss as I am a big AJ fan, but in hindsight, it was the beatdown he needed in his career, to let him know everyone is always war ready against him. He learnt a harsh but pivotal lesson and now he knew anyone with heart and determination could become world champion and if he wasn’t fully focused on every opponent, he’ll lose badly. He took his loss like a man.
    2nd Fight
The Ruiz camp knew AJ would be better prepared, a level playing field with the same amount of time to focus on each other. He knew AJ respected his chin and fast hands and would be smarter and fitter next time. Ruiz had only one option and that was banking on the psychological damage Joshua received in the 1st fight, he realized had to put it on him from round one(like the Fury vs Wilder fight) in order to give him deja vu and a few flashbacks, but he failed. He came in heavy intentionally(he wanted to bang AJ out in double time). What Ruiz did not bargain for was that though AJ would utilize the sweet science, he would also be vicious when he needed to. Ruiz just like Wilder lost the fight in the first round. When he couldn’t catch AJ, and then AJ busted his head wide open in the last few seconds of the round, Ruiz knew he couldn’t win the fight, and that if he got too desperate early he’d be knocked out. As long as AJ fought that way, he’d beat Ruiz 10/10 times and Andy knew it.
This is why I fear for Wilder taking the Fury fight again, because the defeat was not a temple shot like the AJ/Ruiz 1. His defeat was a mental beatdown from round one and I don’t think he knows what to do next time. Remember he came in at his heaviest, because he knew Fury’s size was a problem. If Ruiz vs AJ 3 were to happen, there’s nothing Ruiz can change, if he loses too much weight, he’ll have no punch power or resistance. He’ll barely be an heavyweight and he’ll get wiped out! If he comes heavy, AJ will dance rings round him. Fact is, he took his lucky chance last year but a focused AJ is better than him. I think Ruiz vs Wilder would be a very good fight, because of his chin and Wilder’s inability to fight going backwards. Though we all know Wilder has dynamite in his hands lol

As a boxer you fight the first time you you heat your opponent at his back of his head often, because he moved closer to you. But in the second fight your opponent had learnt his lesson and he fight you outside, he did not move closer to you. That's what happened between AJ and ARJ. AJ is so smart, that what we call champion sometimes you need to think outside of the box.

His first and only defence is one of the worst recent Heavyweight fights in recent history and one of the worst performances by a Heavyweight champ period. Yea you’re right he completely knocked out and destroyed an out of shape Andy. Oh wait he couldn’t even do that he tapped Andy he never hurt him. All respect to Joshua for shutting up and putting in work. But if they both come down ready like the first match styles win fights. Also Andy seems like a bitch after this whole thing

@@robinsonsuarez6334 no if AJ uses his obvious advantages we wins on points 9 out for 10. Like you said styles wins fights and AJs distance style will always beat Ruiz. I respect your opinion though but nah Ruiz never beats AJ If AJ just uses boxing skills. AJ was foolish fisrt fight and won't ever fight Ruiz that way again.

He wouldn't have, Ruiz is levels above Joshua as a fighter, and he wouldn't have been able to stop Ruiz, even if he was same weight as first time. Ruiz is fast, agile, powerful and fluid...Joshua was gifted the second fight. However, Joshua deserves it as he at least takes things seriously and always dedicated to training and improvement, however, Joshua has a lot of money and people invested in him.

  • @274halo

So disappointing from Any Ruiz there is no one he can blame apart from himself, his own father said he was lazy and did not prepare properly. At the end of the day, Manny Robles did everything he can you cannot knock Manny here he was 100% honest. Abel Sanchez said the similar thing when Ruiz apparently came up to Big Bear to train and also stated before Joshua rematch he eluded to Ruiz's lack of discipline and drive.
Thing is he knew Joshua was gonna make improvements and was not just gonna lay down and lose all his belts. I think Joshua might have beaten him the same if Ruiz was well prepared but it would have been a much harder/tougher fight. It's one thing to lose but you gave 100% and was well prepped but to lose because you could not be asked to train properly and you blew up in weight and your the heavyweight champ of the world holding 3/4 belts in the division, this is your own fault.
I just don't see how going to another trainer is gonna help unless he improves his drive and motivation.
