These beautiful chants are helping me keep my sanity for the past few weeks. After the death of my girlfriend I remembered she believed in God and I didn't, but I got so desperate that I pray to God every evening before I go to sleep that He relieves my poor soul of pain and sadness. I know it sounds funny but I can't help it...

What I find so disturbing is that so many people confuse beautiful meaningful Byzantine chant with Islam and reject it because of prejudice before even understanding the truth.
Having a difficult time with this, Lord have mercy,
Byzantine chant is the most beautiful beautiful praise to God, both in content and in song. Byzantium will surely rise again, imperceptible at first and then with the power of God

Byzantine Chant is the basis both for Eastern music (appropriated by Islam) and Western Music. It’s based on the Ancient Greek mode. The Greeks taught Arabs about Pythagoras Canon and theorized their makams

The name itself is anathema to the Muslim if they really understood it. Aya Sophia, The Cathedral of Divine Wisdom is dedicated to Christ Himself as the Divine Wisdom of God. As in the West, Christ is identified as the Word of God, in the East Christ is the Wisdom of God. This is to proclaim that Christ is, was, and always will be with the Father, for God cannot be separated from His Word and His wisdom, which is Christ our Saviour.
The prophecy will be fulfilled, Aya Sophia will hold the celebration of Divine Liturgy again. Constantinople once again. DV! A Catholic here who stands with my Orthodox brother.

    ὀργισθήσῃ εἰς τέλος,
    ἐκκαυθήσεται ὡς πῦρ ὁ ζῆλός σου;
    ἕως πότε, κύριε
    ἔκχεον τὴν ὀργήν σου,
    ἔκχεον, ἔκχεον τὴν ὀργήν σου
O God, the nations have invaded your inheritance; they have defiled your holy temple, They have left the dead bodies of your servants as food for the birds of the sky, the flesh of your own people for the animals of the wild. They have poured out blood like water all around Jerusalem, and there is no one to bury the dead.
    We are objects of contempt to our neighbors, of scorn and derision to those around us. How long, Lord? Will you be angry forever? How long will your jealousy burn like fire? Pour out your wrath on the nations that do not acknowledge you, on the kingdoms that do not call on your name;
Do not hold against us the sins of past generations; may your mercy come quickly to meet us, and have mercy of us.

      citation:
Alexios IV realised that his promises were hard to keep. Alexios III had managed to flee with 1,000 pounds of gold and some priceless jewels, leaving the imperial treasury short on funds. At that point the young emperor ordered the destruction and melting of valuable Byzantine and Roman icons in order to extract their gold and silver, but even then he could only raise 100,000 silver marks. In the eyes of all Greeks who knew of this decision, it was a shocking sign of desperation and weak leadership, which deserved to be punished by God. The Byzantine historian Nicetas Choniates characterized it as "the turning point towards the decline of the Roman state."

We don't want a second Byzantine empire or even a Kievan Rus, look what they did, constantly invadng aind fighting each other and everyone else.
In the future we want something even better than any empire and more like Antioch Christian communities in 4AD, the closer to the resurrection and the coming of Christ the more Christian, as we got further away we lost more and more.. and the earliest Christian communities were the purest. That's not to say the Byzantines did not have a lot of things going for them, but rebuilding their society verbatim would be a mistake.

+May 29, 1453 (Black Tuesday): It is as the seers of Byzantium foretold, the prophets that spoke incessantly of the fate that was coming, of the final days of the City. The weary Byzantine knew that the doom so often threatened must someday surely envelop him. And what did it matter? It was needless to complain. This world was a foolish travesty, haunted with pain and with sorrowful memories and foreboding. Peace and true happiness lay beyond. What was the Emperor, the Peer of the Apostles, what even was Constantinople itself, the great City dear to God and His Mother, compared to Christ Pantocrator and the glorious Courts of Heaven? --Sir Steven Runciman, Byzantine Civilisation

The inhabitants of Asia Minor were christian orthodox Greeks, who were descendants of the ancient Greeks. Turkey was established just on 1923.Crusades were a pretense of the fallen West in order to conquer the
Eastern Roman Empire ( i.e. Byzantium ). On 1204 Constantinople was captured by the 4th crusade, and please note that this was the last crusade. The Byzantine Emperor Ioannis Vatatzis and the emperors
after him, expeled the crusaders from Eastern Roman Empire, but this first capture on 1204, was very helpful for the Turks later on 1453.
