I’m a proud new owner of a 2015 LX570. Spent its whole life in Texas. Super clean! No rust. 100k miles. Roof rack and new tire/wheel combo. Went with 275/70/17s. Your videos were super helpful when looking and finally finding mine. Can’t wait to get it out in the wild!
I've been around the block a few times and I've owned a lot of cars. My current LX570 is my favorite vehicle I've ever owned, by far. 8 hour road trips feel like 2! I see a worn dirt road leading to a scenic spot? I take it without fear. It'll take 33's with ZERO mods. It's comfortable, reliable and stable on the road. On mountain roads I easily stay with packs of smaller, sportier cars. It's simply a fantastic vehicle.
Love the AHC. One major advantage over my other aftermarket coilover vehicles is you don't have to rebuild the coilovers. Aka remove the coilover, ship to manufacturer or rebuilder, can't drive car, receive the rebuilt coilovers, install, align, then drive... So you can be SOL for 2 to 8 weeks unless you have a garage and/or other vehicles. Just maintain the AHC fluid every 60k and rust proof the hydraulic lines. It'll last forever.
217k on my ‘11 LX. Just did the valley plate, not an easy job and wasn’t cheap. BUT for the most part, these things are bullet proof. Will be watching your build for sure.
I love my 2013 LX. Bought it with 49,000 miles in 2020 now at over 79,00 and to me everyday is like driving it for the first time! I don't want any other car just ANOTHER LX!
I found out a cool tidbit from a page on here awhile ago. The LX570, and the Toyota Landcruiser engine blocks underwent an MRI to check for bubbles in the block to ensure only the best blocks went in both of these models.
I love how you dialed in nice 34" wheels without any lift with reasonable offset. And thanks for a very useful demonstration about articulation, - it shows why wheels poking out too much could be a problem!
Love it. Never thought would consider over a Land Cruiser, but your build even so far looks pretty slick, can't wait to see how it looks with bumpers!👍
Great video. Can’t wait to see what you do with this build. Love the house and the big shop garage that’s so awesome. Happy for you. You earned it. Great family too. I’m sure you’re inspiring many fans.
I have had 3 lx570s 2008 -2015 and now 2018 over 500k between them and I do cross country trips - camp been thru everything last trip was over 12k miles never let me down once! Nothing less compares
I actually like the look of the gx470 better. Has air suspension but not the fancy hydronic suspension. 4.7 L so lots of power already. I'm looking to buy one myself. I also prefer old tech interiors with actual buttons and knows and analog stuff as opposed to touch screens. All that tech crap dates the vehicle in like 5 years while analog is timeless. Also if and WHEN they stop making new computer chips for all that crap once it dies its done forever. The gx470 is in my opinion perfection. Luxury but just enough substance to still be rugged.

Looking forward to see more LX570 mods and accessories. One great useful accessory that I have added to mine is a dashboard accessory mount from gamiviti. It allows me to use Bulletpoint cellphone mount
As the owner of a 2019 LC200, I am a bit biased, but yes if you modify the Lexus enough depending on what you do, it could compete. Either way though, incredible platform. That is a good looking rig though👍 Good find!
Great Video! Love the LX570! Not really a fan of that front grille though, maybe paint the factory a dark glossy gunmetal (keeping the Lexus logo the normal chrome or gloss gunmetal) Thought about doing something similar on my GX as I've seen others do the same and it looks a lot better then the bright chrome, picture the Black Line GX from '22 & '23. OR maybe a dark bronze/gunmetal to go with your wrap (like the Black Line, which is kind of a dark bronze/tungsten finish.
The AHC system enables softer sway bars and can change pressure on the opposite tires so that it can counteract sway bar tension. All and all, if it’s not as flexy, it’s by a very small amount vs a KDSS Land Cruiser. And it’s worth the loss for all the other massive benefits you gain.
Hi Mike, I hope you’re doing well! I really enjoy your content, especially your insights on vehicles. I’m curious: if you had to choose between a 2015 Lexus LX 570 and a 2024 Toyota Tundra for a scenario of civil unrest in the U.S., which would you take and why? Thanks for your time, and keep up the great work!
A lot of factors to consider with that one, where are you, where are you trying to go, what are you trying to bring, how many people, etc. In general probably the Tundra as it has more power, more storage capacity, more range.
@@LastLineOfDefense Ttraveling from Michigan a couple of states away with two adults and two kids, plus essentials like a small generator, freeze-dried food, and gear for cooking and sleeping-the Tundra would still be your choice?
I had the Toyo AT3's on my LX 570 but found them a little loud on it. Switched to Yokohama Geolander G015's (not as aggressive of a look though). Quieter and still 3 peak snow rated. Nothing wrong with Toyo AT3's, I have them on my Ram 3500 and my wife's 4runner, just wanted something a little quieter on the LX. BTW, 285 70 R17's on mine. Clearanced plastics. Still rubbed slightly even with methods and positive offset to tuck them in. Sensor lift and no rub. Still plan to do the OEM Toyota spacer for the front coil, just haven't gotten around to it.
After 5 years of use of my Dobinsons rear with 2 swing outs they severely limit how much you want to open that thing with family involved. Especially holding a child, groceries or managing a dog. I find myself trying to go through the rear seats to the back just of for the hassle. If you have a trailer hitch hauler you have to unload that also to get them opened. Just thoughts with miles and babies riding along. Happy trail. Mine is a loaded-out 07 GX470 for reference.
Yeah swingouts definitely kill some daily practical ease of use, so it was a big debate. Having said that, I have a few other vehicles that I use as "dailies", and this could be reserved for only certain outings, making loading groceries not as big of an issue. Also the Dissent swingouts are definitely the easiest to open/close (fewer mechanisms involved).
Wow, Dissent definitely makes some seriously nice bumpers. I would need to see one in person to see how the locking handle works, from the pictures it is hard to tell how the mechanism locks the considerable weight from a full spare in place but is easy to open at the same time. My guess is 5k combined with bumper and swingouts. I have been looking at different setups for my rear but with the way prices are going probably just going to have it removed and refinished. New to your channel but great content. I saw something about your video or audio being off but both look great to me and I have a very good monitor. Safe travels from Texas. @@LastLineOfDefense
I won Lexus lx 2015 and I have but around 400k miles I used it for everything and its still tough and new and the only thing I did is removing the intake manifold some of the bolts get loose and it might fall on the piston and you won’t be happy I did just for preventive and also the 4.6 is so reliable like 5.7 or maybe better and about the trany flush I did it after 200k and used additive from Lucas with dropping the pan and changing the filters every around 40k
At some point the weight of the truck gets high enough that width can help. If you air down a 255, you’re going to end up with less sidewall between your wheel and the ground than a 285
I put a 7" Carpuride in my '05 Sequoia and have been real pleased with it. Put it on a Bulletpoint plate/arm bolted to a mount on the ashtray from FirstGenTundra. Nice ride but I think the First Gen Sequoia still has better flexibility for storage inside ;)
I compared the 2018 LX570 to the LC200 Sahara - twin turbo diesel. Went with the Sahara as still has “the nice things) but more capable in stock form in the dirty stuff.
Stupendous, fantastic video. I don’t want to spend your money but you should get a slee rear dual bumper and a long range America 24 gallon tank. That would be two incredible mods. I have both on my 200 series and absolutely love it.
So two options for me: 10 LC 220k $19k 08 LX570 240k $17.5k Stock and both good on maintenance. I’m leaning more towards the Land Cruiser just because it’s been maintained a lot better (rad, starter, new trans from Toyota) and it has zero wrecks. Thoughts?
I’m in the market for one now, but once cry once. Looking forward to seeing what other mods you add. Ih8mud has some threads on updating the crawl control to the 13-15 model, and a couple people have added the headed steering wheel as well.
Heated steering wheel would be nice. This has crawl control (which I'd never use and is pointless), as well as ATRAC - but if you're talking about MTS - MTS is pretty nice, but I rarely even use it in the Tacoma.
@@LastLineOfDefense yea there is a 5 speed crawl control with rear tire lock turning in 13+ but totally understand it is more of a party trick rather than heavy use for most. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how your retrofit goes for HID’s and updated projectors.
Nice selection Mike, as I dig your choice here with the big Lex 570. I’m more of a big fan of the 17’ -‘18 Sequoia personally, as I plan to pick up one down the road. Finishing up some digs on my 1stgen tundra.. Great Review walkthrough 🫡
Old Landcrusiers are definitely cool but not worth the up charge anymore. You gotta pay extra for things not to break but a real gearhead likes when things break every now and then for an excuse to upgrade. Still rocking wit my 02 Jeep WJ
If by "most everyone", you mean a small percentage, then yeah some do. Mostly if you have a very strong desire to lift it a ton, or need a very particular go fast setup to be used as a Baja support vehicle or something. But plenty of full armored LX570s and some running 40" tires that have stuck with and love AHC for the countless benefits.
I don't own a vehicle lifted more than 3" - Taco on 35s, FJ80 on 37s, Tundra on 37s - there's no reason to lift a vehicle that much. But again "Tiny the 200" has an LX on 40s and still has AHC. So I'd say still most people that wheel an LX keep the AHC. A 4wd shop will obviously encourage you to remove it though, because that's how they make money. Not to say the AHC is perfect for every use case, but it's the better choice for most.
IMO, a Jeep SUV is all around a great overland vehicle. I have a 97 jeep grand Cherokee with a factory V8 and straight axles with 3;73 gears. 33 mudd tires and 6” lift. Been watching your channel a while and would like your input on my choice on a video maybe? Love the content and your holsters! M&P holds up better than Glock BTW 🤣
My buddy Austin is the owner of 3Zero3 Automotive in Golden takes care of my 11' LX570. He's one block from Slee Off Road in Golden. You should go see him. He just did a recent big service on my LX. Doesn't recommend a AT flush.
Thanks for the great video, exciting to think about all the potential. Just picked up a 2018 LX570 myself and looking for suggestions to get the roof rack on. From the video it looked like there were some bolts sticking up from the roofline. Wondering if you figured out a clever way to do this.
I’ve been eyeing the Carpuride for a while now to add CarPlay and dashcam to my 2011 LX. Would love to see that follow up review on the unit. Solid functional upgrades all around. I’ll definitely be picking up the center console cup holder replacement.
I have a similar setup in my LX570 except my display is flush with the flat area above the original LX570 screen. There is a L shaped/angled metal that I made to hold the display to the display adhesive. Added a 8.8 in display from Amazon two/three years ago so I can use wireless Android Auto/CarPlay. Nice thing is now I have dual screen like the LX600. The 8.8 in display is the navigation/music/video and sits in the flat spot in front of the center speaker/above the original 08-15 LX570 screen. The original LX570 screen is primarily climate control and audio control. I used 3.5mm for audio from display to LX570 for best quality audio. Mobile phone uses bluetooth or wifi for wireless Android Auto/CarPlay. There is a newer model now with physical buttons and 8.9 in screen, higher resolution, fanless, and faster processor. There are a couple of other IH8MUD members that have similar setup. See IH8MUD forum for details.
I looked at a few, not a lot, around say five or six, all had serious frame rot. One you could put your arm through... So, beware folks, get under these Toyota/Lexus body on frame vehicles and really inspect them.
Hey guys, how does this car do off road ? The 4x4 does it have diff lock? Similar to 4runner ? I guess it drinks gas eh... But def has serious potential for a build... Wondering how some of you found it, you use it sporadically or daily ?? So, lets hear it 🎉 P.s. is this chain drive ??? So no timing belt ? Those are some good things to mention for motor maintenance etc.
Do they make an aftermarket for the Carpuride to get it flush on dash? Would give you more visibility and hide wires.. looking forward to that video for sure.
Good to see this video since im planning to buy either LC200 or LX570. My only worry is the gas consumption of lx570 compared to to Lc 200. Hoping someone can give me an honest comment here about their comparison and which one has better gas mileage. Thanks 🥂
Yeah I did that on my 80 series, but I couldn't find one for the LX570. I know they have it for the LC, but the wheel looks just slightly different on those bottom two spokes.
@@LastLineOfDefense Ah bummer. Maybe worth messaging them? They were pretty responsive when I did. If not I'm sure an upholstery shop could recreate. Clean truck. I was bummed when you sold the last one so happy to see one back in the stable
If you do change your mind on selling the extra cupholders or the file, it would be fantastic. Having some additional cupholder space would be amazing in mine....
The 5th gen 4Runner seemingly does everything this does, has less maintenance items to worry about and has a power train that is arguable more reliable. Other than luxury based things like sound deadening and interior materials quality and ride quality, what makes this a better truck?
Better power, better features, a more proven platform, superior offroad capability, more refinement, more room - and if you drove one back to back with a 4runner, there would be a large "feeling" of emotional difference. Having said that, the 4runner is a solid and excellent platform that beats most other SUVs.
I currently own an 08 LC and traded a 2015 4Runner for it. Advantages the LC has over the 4Runner are everything that LLOD already stated, and if you drive them back to back you’ll immediately tell the higher quality of the LC/LX. If it was my money and I had the chance to do either or again, I’d go LC every time (until the new 4Runner comes then maybe that’ll change).
@@greenstoic4029 fascinating to hear. I own a 2019 5th 4R and I’ve always wanted to try driving an LC to feel the difference that everybody talks about. I’m just curious if these differences make the LC tangibly a better vehicle in the long run or if they are just superficial superiorities
The lc200 kdss is not electronic. It’s all hydraulic. The gx and 4r with kdss is hydraulic and electronically controlled via speed sensor and steering wheel angle. It’s actually a lot more reliable than the system on the LX.
Yeah I'm aware - just referred to it being "*like an electronic swaybar disconnect" because that's what people are familiar with. KDSS has many problems of it's own, and only does one job, and lots of people still remove it. I think it's a good system though, but saying it's more reliable than the AHC system is a little misleading, since it isn't really, and other than using hydraulic fluid, it performs an entirely different task, and only one task at that, haha.
Have you ever looked at the GX? The rest of the world calls it the Land Cruiser Prado. Better towing than the lx and all of the off road ability in a smaller package!
@@jonathannguyen3620 talking out of my rear end….looked it up AFTER I posted. Gx=6500 lx=8000 sorry, I remember hearing LCs having “bad” towing capabilities, guess that is wrong too. Thanks for keeping me honest.

I have same. I wish I went with the 40 gallon
So two options for me:
10 LC 220k $19k
08 LX570 240k $17.5k
Stock and both good on maintenance.
What year did they get heated steering wheel?
@@BIGWEBB88 2013 I believe
Our 2000 lx470 still runs and has the least amount of problems compared to our other cars. Oh ya it also has 265,000 miles. Lexus makes the best cars
Incredible taste in cars man. Very subtle and suiting.
Hi, Andrew Garfield,
I didn't realise you were going to be describing the Lexus LX570 car.
Anyway, I'm enjoying watching it.
My HE LC will probably outlive me, it’s the best car I’ve ever owned!
The LX was quite popular here in Oz too. Bloody expensive though. They don't exist for $19k.
Blacked out headlights would look sick! Please do a followup video when those get done. Consider smoked out taillights?
Would love a LX570, but here in central america where gas prices are crazy, would have to consider maybe a Prado DIesel.
Love my '13 LX570!
That carplay thing is cool, that's my main gripe with my current car
Nice selection Mike, as I dig your choice here with the big Lex 570.
I’m more of a big fan of the 17’ -‘18 Sequoia personally, as I plan to pick up one down the road. Finishing up some digs on my 1stgen tundra..
Great Review walkthrough 🫡
I do want a 2nd Gen Sequoia... Might try to convince Ashley to get one for her vehicle after the next kid.
just hit 110,000 on my 2016 LC. fingers crossed it'll hold up...
Just a little color grading is all you need 💥💥💥
Old Landcrusiers are definitely cool but not worth the up charge anymore. You gotta pay extra for things not to break but a real gearhead likes when things break every now and then for an excuse to upgrade. Still rocking wit my 02 Jeep WJ
What a beast of a machine
I put the same TRD grill on my GX470 but am running it with the Toyota badge instead of the Lexus. Kind of a cool oddity.
Ha, I thought about getting it with the Toyota lettering...
I'm in the camp of. Info over video quality. In that order.
Most everyone removes the hydraulic suspension to install a lift, also more articulation without it. Put the OME BP-51 lift on my 200. It’s solid
@@LastLineOfDefense guess I should’ve prefaced most wheelers 😂
Was always told that one you go over a 3” lift you have to remove. Always kept me away from the LX and ended up with 200
I don't own a vehicle lifted more than 3" - Taco on 35s, FJ80 on 37s, Tundra on 37s - there's no reason to lift a vehicle that much.
Definitely rides better
4:00 KDSS is hydraulic as well. It’s not electronically actuated.
Yup
IMO, a Jeep SUV is all around a great overland vehicle. I have a 97 jeep grand Cherokee with a factory V8 and straight axles with 3;73 gears. 33 mudd tires and 6” lift. Been watching your channel a while and would like your input on my choice on a video maybe? Love the content and your holsters! M&P holds up better than Glock BTW 🤣
Really like the grill you did on that. Good looking rig, home run.
I've Coco mats in my LX. The only way to go IMO.
The video quality wasnt shakey enough and crystal clear. Unreal.
Apologies
My buddy Austin is the owner of 3Zero3 Automotive in Golden takes care of my 11' LX570. He's one block from Slee Off Road in Golden. You should go see him. He just did a recent big service on my LX. Doesn't recommend a AT flush.
Drain and fill no flush
One reason I'll never part with our 2017 Lexus LX 570, its pure luxury with Badass off road capability when in need.
Great camera and quality imo just grade to your liking
I almost bought one! but here in central america Gas prices are craaazy, so I got the prado turbo diesel!
Thanks for the great video, exciting to think about all the potential. Just picked up a 2018 LX570 myself and looking for suggestions to get the roof rack on. From the video it looked like there were some bolts sticking up from the roofline. Wondering if you figured out a clever way to do this.
It’s the MPG that sucks
@@runnerxa I hadn’t seen this setup on the IH8MUD forums, thanks for putting me onto it
Got to love marshdale burger! Nice rig by the way
Yup, that card has almost all its punches, so I can't lose it!
I looked at a few, not a lot, around say five or six, all had serious frame rot. One you could put your arm through... So, beware folks, get under these Toyota/Lexus body on frame vehicles and really inspect them.
You can get a pre 1996 4Runner with a roll down window and tailgate
Hey guys, how does this car do off road ? The 4x4 does it have diff lock? Similar to 4runner ?
I guess it drinks gas eh...
But def has serious potential for a build...
Wondering how some of you found it, you use it sporadically or daily ??
So, lets hear it 🎉 P.s. is this chain drive ??? So no timing belt ? Those are some good things to mention for motor maintenance etc.
Do they make an aftermarket for the Carpuride to get it flush on dash? Would give you more visibility and hide wires.. looking forward to that video for sure.
Mike those garage doors look Beautiful! Are they Wayne Dalton ? Oak plank ?
Great video. I think you need a 100 series to round out the stable though!
I agree
I Own a LC200
You need to read up on the LC200 KDSS and it’s definitely not just a front sway bar disconnect…,.
I know all about KDSS, haha. In layman's terms though, the best way to describe what it does is how I described it in the video. 🍻
Slick top looks so nice on the 200.
yeah I really love the aesthetics of the slick top on these - but rack functionality will win out
Good to see this video since im planning to buy either LC200 or LX570.
My only worry is the gas consumption of lx570 compared to to Lc 200.
Hoping someone can give me an honest comment here about their comparison and which one has better gas mileage. Thanks 🥂
Gas mileage should be the same since they’re basically identical with an identical motor and drivetrain.
Hi Mike
I have a 2008 200 series and ive heard from.alot of mechanics not to flush transmission just drain and refill. Cheers great channel
Yeah I've heard that from at least one
AHC was available as an option on LCs in 06-07 also I believe.
Highly recommend the loncky wrap for your steering wheel. Looks factory and will cover the wood with nice leather. Have it on my LC which was peeling
King off roader!
A tailgate
Love the wrap
Love the LX570. Personally I think they look best with TRD Rock Warrior wheels. Might be a little bias 😅. Looking forward to this build.
Have you ever looked at the GX? The rest of the world calls it the Land Cruiser Prado. Better towing than the lx and all of the off road ability in a smaller package!
GX does not tow better than the LX.
@@jonathannguyen3620 talking out of my rear end….looked it up AFTER I posted. Gx=6500 lx=8000 sorry, I remember hearing LCs having “bad” towing capabilities, guess that is wrong too. Thanks for keeping me honest.
@@SJ-xf9ni As the former owner of a GX460, and now an LX570 owner, the virtually nothing better about the GX460 except for maybe the size. MAYBE. I actually like that the LX570 is a little bigger, the cargo volume is noticably better and you can remove the 3rd row seats far more easily when you dont need them.
