  • Season 7 : Episode #167 : The Breezy Anchorage of Johnson's Lee
    Hello Friends,
On this episode we start the day after a very blustery night on the hook at Johnson's Lee on Santa Rosa Islands southern coast. After surveying the shore for a suitable place to land and finding no such place we returned to the boat just in time before the winds picked up.
Finding ourselves not trusting the wind we busied ourselves onboard. Camille prepared 3 jars of fermented veggies and explains how to make Kimchi and Sauerkraut.
Soon the winds increased and we watched our dinghy sailing in the air like a kite as we yawled on the anchor.

James. The boat looks great, what a job you have done! .
When I first went cruising, I moved forward with a lot of “ baby steps”
It took me quite a while to build up my skills.
You have tremendous mechanical/ boat building skills...better then mine for sure.
And I bet you acquired those skills over a period of years,
You and Camille are going to master these cruising skills .

Beautiful blue skies and seas at the start and a lovely sunsets near the end with a whole lot of wind in between!
I'm impressed that Camille matches her pants with her mixing bowl so very closely.

I like how so much space is allocated to a robust spice rack, even in quarters where real estate is premium.

Hi guy's love your channel, I owned # 43 "Sea Dance " for a number of years and then graduated to the Ericson Alberg 35. We were up at Santa Rosa the first week of August the wind blew hard all night. I highly recommend shooting over to Santa Barbara great guest slips 1.00 a foot a night nice facilities and great little town.

Love seeing you guys living it. I had some nights like that at little fisherman's. Sooo happy to be dug in tight. That's no place to have it let go.

How damaging is that to a boat. I'm on a mooring buoy in my harbour 27' mirage. We have 68km gusts coming Saturday. I'm wondering if I should move my vessel or leave it

I don't know if it is Righting Sail or Riding Sail, but I wish I would have thought of this back when I was sailing the Channel Islands. Might be a good addition for those crazy windy nights/days. Capt. Dan's Johnson's Lee video from 2014. ua-cam.com/video/nu4kko2Cp00/v-deo.html

We actually hoisted our storm jib as a anchor riding sail at this anchorage but found it to put way to much stress on the backstay in those winds and took it down , we will be getting a purpose made riding sail for sure though

Is the solar panel setup doing well for you? With a wind generator you could sell power in those winds!

Those Napa cabbages do awesome in VT. We do 25 heads out of our garden and ferment in a 15 gallon drum - and it last us 2 years of kraut! Do you have Sandor Katz book? Fermentation maestro!

Oddly cooking aboard ship is a subject rarely mentioned much less in any depth. You should consider expanding on that.
