Thank you for your service and once again thank you for being the only video of this model laptop, without you I wouldn’t have been able to get to my charging jack.
I was looking everywhere to find a video on upgrading the stock M.2 SSD under the keyboard for this exact model of M17s, I can't find the old video someone made, but yours was perfect thank you so much for uploading this.
Thank you! I took my machine to a local shop b/c the power port was shot and they kept it for 4 weeks and didn't follow up with me on what was going on until I finally went and got it back from them. In 2 hours and your video, I was able to fix it myself. Thanks again!
U have no idea how helpful this video is, i just got my hands on this laptop and mine had a 980m and could play games better than my macbook xD, added 2 extra rams i didn't even know it had a Msata ssd and 2 extra ram spaces, thanks for such a detailed video, even after 10 years this video is helping people!
Thanks for the vid. My friend just gave me his old one yesterday (he got it 2nd-hand years ago) and the fans were just so noisy even when just browsing through folders, plus they'd alternate from just left fan to just right fan. Figured it'd never had a clean in it's life and couldn't figure out what to do after the first four screws. Now I can start cleaning it.
Thanks! I wanted to clean the fans and also take the keyboard off to flex it to get rid of a minor impression on the right side (it's been through some use so some keys were sunken in making it look weird...). The keyboard looks much better now and the fan is quieter most of the time.
Thanks!!! I am working on upgrading the mSATA SSD in my Alienware 17 and needed to know how to get the keyboard assembly off. You did a much better job of covering that than the pictorial web site I found that simply says "remove palmrest" with no info on screws that need to be removed to do that. Thanks for being so thorough.
These laptops are great. I have the same one, paid around $700USD ($1000 Australian) back in 2015, just needed a keyboard and has no lights. Yesterday I replaced the Monitor cable, easy as. but have a few screws missing because im clumsy lol. It's still a beast with 770m, just has no lights.
Thanks for this. For some reason my laptop came with 2 RAM modules installed on the outside, so to upgrade it i had to tear down half the laptop to add 2 more RAMs...
Thanks for the video. It was very helpful - I was looking for a video demonstrating the internal structure of Alienware laptop. I am going to purchase one and upgrade SSD but I didn't know which kind of SSD interface they support. Now I have an idea
I took my apart to clean the fans and now it won't turn back on ☹️, took back apart again to make sure everything was in the right place and still does not power on
I failed taking off the lid aka keyboard during the last part of your video where you were taking off the glue so I gave up and put it all back together and when I turned it on the keyboard and mouse don't even power on 😭 Please help me.
Stephen Nguyen the glue doesn’t really matter. Make sure the connectors are secured on both sides of the cable. It should work unless you ripped it out of the connector or ripped the cable in half.
Thank you for the video, Baustin! Could you advise for the real IT illiterate. I need to change DDR3. Where is it? What minimum should I take off to change that. Just point the time on your video where you deal with it. Thanks, real help. Michael
For the first hard drive you remove is the 90 degree connector supposed to come with the laptop? I’m trying to install an SSD on mine and I open it up today and notice there seems to not be the 90° connector
I did this but went down to the CMOS battery to take it out and put it back in cuz it was recommended I do that to fix errors with installing Ubuntu on another SSD So I did that, and the laptop doesn't power on at all, I suspected it was because I was sitting on a carpet doing it and static had something to do with it because I was laying all the parts down on the carpet, but people I ask don't think it is. I'm not sure why my computer won't power on now, the charging light doesn't even show up on the power button when the charger is connected and I know the charger works because it charges another Dell laptop I have. Any suggestions?
any idea what would cause this machine to cycle from detected to undetected powersupply every 20 seconds or so. it does that in BIOS as well. I changed the power supply and same thing.
Hi man, thank you for this video. I have the same laptop. My screen is kinda flickering, and I tried all the software solutions given on UA-cam (tutorials). It didnt help so I assume it might be the cable of the monitor. Do you also have a tutorial how to replace the monitor cable? Furthermore I also upgraded my RAM with 2x8GB and in the front there is already 2x4gb so in Total 24GB. Might it be better to remove 2x4gb and put the 2x8gb in the front? Because I dont notice much difference. Thanks for you answer in advance.
Thanks for the info, is there a way to disconnect the battery without a complete disassemble? I am having an error code 43 on my GPU and a possible fix is removal of the battery, wait 5 min and reconnect, I dont want to strip the whole thing so am hoping there is a cable I can unplug to make it easier. Thanks.
I realize that now. Never claimed to be an expert, but I just wanted to help people because I know a lot of people who were curious as to how to get into this beast. Thanks for the comment!
Hey, this video really help me out a lot. I hoping if you could link me what speaker i need to buy for this laptop to replace it. I keep getting R1 to R4 type, I not sure what to type in for this model of 17.
Well video is old hope you can answer a quick question if you still get notice of replies, I have the same alienware and am going to need to disassemble mine to get to the side trim LED as my blue has burnt out, any idea what size led they may be, I'm assuming RGB-LED but are they board mount or like regular component LED? Just wondering I'll figure it out once I open her up but any info would be awesome!
After dealing with whole Windows 10 bs I finally got it to work but it only lasted 3 months before something went wrong. So now since the battery doesn’t work I always have to have the charger plugged for it to work but today I plugged it in and the charger light turned off and laptop wouldn’t turn on , so now I’m trying to figure out if it’s the Battery pulling too much juice since it doesn’t work or if the motherboard fried somehow. Can someone explain to me how to check if motherboard is fried once I disassemble pls. I have anxiety and depression so I don’t leave my room or work so I really want to see if I could fix it or if I really need to buy another pc which I won’t be able to afford. Any help is greatly appreciated
since this laptop or this version of this laptop is supporting 3D, but the LCD cable connected on LVDS, not on EPD (with Screws), Can I assume that you are using 980m video card?
i want to replace my 60hz screen with a 120 hz screen and apparently i need a new cable to connect to the motherboard and it need to be in a different port, edp i think, do you know how to do it , im quite confused
Hey just curious which camera did you use to record since I noticed that you were able to view it almost real time externally? Also nice video made it all really clear and simple.
Do you think if I lift the Alienware 17 of the desk grabbing it from the lower part of the body with the both hands opposite to display while it's in up position so it's heavy and it will put pressure on SSDD connection? Cuz lately I have problem while starting it says the checking disk C:/ (SSD).
Thank you for your service and once again thank you for being the only video of this model laptop, without you I wouldn’t have been able to get to my charging jack.

I still use this video to this day
Thank you! I took my machine to a local shop b/c the power port was shot and they kept it for 4 weeks and didn't follow up with me on what was going on until I finally went and got it back from them. In 2 hours and your video, I was able to fix it myself. Thanks again!

Thanks for uploading this video, was able to fix the power and kept everything intact and working once reassembled! Thanks again
You're welcome! Thank you for watching!
Thank you very much for uploading excellent video. It's useful to me because i still use Alienware 17.
Thanks for the vid. My friend just gave me his old one yesterday (he got it 2nd-hand years ago) and the fans were just so noisy even when just browsing through folders, plus they'd alternate from just left fan to just right fan. Thank you so much! Each step is described so well. The dubstep in the background brings me back to 2015 ^^. Subscribed!
thanks for the video, took my alienware apart to add more ram and storage, works like a dream again!
Great job as usual, bro. Keep up the good videos.
Thank you! I appreciate it. I should get back into it...
Thank you for the video. I like how you speak clearly throughout the video.
Thank you! I appreciate it!
I just upgraded my SSD, i saw you video for reference, thank you very much!
You're welcome! Glad it helped you out.
This Video was very helpful. I was able to replace my key board in my 2013 Alienware 17 laptop. I would highly recommend this videio
Thanks! I wanted to clean the fans and also take the keyboard off to flex it to get rid of a minor impression on the right side (it's been through some use so some keys were sunken in making it look weird...). The keyboard looks much better now and the fan is quieter most of the time.

what is the maximum mSATA SSD size this model of laptop can support. Planning to upgrade, as i feel my SSD has reached towards its life end.
Your first step (removing bottom cover) only requires the first TWO screws to be removed, not the FOUR you took out.
I realize that now. Thanks for the comment!
Very glad i saw this my cpu fan had dust caked on it
🤣🥲🥲😂😂😂🥲😂🥲😂
These laptops are great.

I just needed to get the back open.. thanks all these other laptops had screws but never a slide back off, I was stumped til this. lol thanks
Great video, helped a lot
Thank you very much for this really great and helpful video.
Thanks, it was helpful. My repair went well.
Glad it helped!
Cheers, thank you for the video.
Was very helpful.
Thank you!
Thanks man! My power button wasn't working. lol took everything apart and just had to tighten the screws for the power button. Great tutorial though!
Same here how did you fix it ??
Thank you! Glad it helped somewhat.
thank you for the video
You're welcome! Thanks for the comment and view!
hi, can you show how to dismantle the graphic card?
Excellent n Detailed Video :-)
2 of the screws on the bottom cover just hold the label plate on.
I do realize that now. Didn't at the time. Better safe than sorry, so I just removed all of the screws.
Please can you explain how to remove the coin battery pls
Thanks for this. For some reason my laptop came with 2 RAM modules installed on the outside, so to upgrade it i had to tear down half the laptop to add 2 more RAMs...
Yep that's the design of the Alienware 17 it seems. I have my other 2 RAM slots in the inside.
You only have to take the 2 back ones out the front 2 are for the id plate
I realize that now. Haha
Thank you, it really helped me!
that's awesome man
Thank you!
Any chance of you being able to extend the video to take out and replace the sound card, please.
you don't need to remove the name plate screws they only hold down the name plate. i only ever removed the two screws near the edge and it opens fine.
you are Mr. Perfect
Thank you!
can you do a video on how to properly clean the lenovo y510p??? I want to clean it cuz it's getting really dusty, but I don't want to break anything.
do a video on how to replace the screen
I would if I still owned the laptop! It is fairly easy to do though.
Thanks for the video. It was very helpful - I was looking for a video demonstrating the internal structure of Alienware laptop. I am going to purchase one and upgrade SSD but I didn't know which kind of SSD interface they support. Now I have an idea
Glad this video helped you!
How does the power get transformed from the battery?
Very helpful, thanks a lot! 👍🏻
Glad it helped!
Thanks!
At the beginning there are not 4 but only 2 screws (the side facing you). Other 2 screws is for decoration only.😊
Great vid!
I took my apart to clean the fans and now it won't turn back on ☹️, took back apart again to make sure everything was in the right place and still does not power on
Same here... Though I went to the CMOS battery, did you ever have luck getting yours to work?
Cool setup! I would upgrade the ssds when the 850 EVO comes out :)
I failed taking off the lid aka keyboard during the last part of your video where you were taking off the glue so I gave up and put it all back together and when I turned it on the keyboard and mouse don't even power on 😭 Please help me.

I was wondering of how to get used cheaper one of Alienware laptops as they are insanely expensive
Yes they are, but worth the money honestly.
what is that extra grey cable wrapped up with the white cable on the wifi card?
I know it's very late. What if it won't power on or connect to the charging block after reassembling it and everything is connected.
yo only have to take off the back screws on the lid the other 2 just keep that plate on
I realize that now. Thank you!
is there a way to just take out the keyboard? my space bar is sticky cause I dropped some drops of juice in it orz;
Saylor there is. I go through it in this video.
How to change the bios battery?
How do I get at the cmos battery? That's what I need to get at.
One item missed. CMOS Battery remove and replace????
Thank you for the video, Baustin! Could you advise for the real IT illiterate. I need to change DDR3. Where is it? What minimum should I take off to change that. Just point the time on your video where you deal with it. Thanks, real help. Michael
Can I take out the fans first as I only need to clean them..?
thanks for your service and how hard is it the change the processor to a 64 bit from a 32 bit
Countryboy6 you wouldn’t want to change it to a 32 bit. That’s worse.
For the first hard drive you remove is the 90 degree connector supposed to come with the laptop? I’m trying to install an SSD on mine and I open it up today and notice there seems to not be the 90° connector

Is there a way to replace the keyboard without taking out all the guts?
Keyboard and trackpad won’t work after I reassembled
Which revision is this? Alienware made 5 (I think) different versions of the 17, with distinctly different internals.
are the m2.5 screws all the same size or are they different lengths?
Dennis Z. Most of them are the same size. They keyboard has a few odd length ones.
thanks
Sir baustin where can i buy the ssd connector and what is it called? My brother lost it. 4:32
I have this laptop it keeps going to sleep mode even tho all power settings are set off
hi. any advise how to reset cmos on alienware 17?
any idea what would cause this machine to cycle from detected to undetected powersupply every 20 seconds or so. it does that in BIOS as well. I changed the power supply and same thing.
The power jack where your power supply plugs into likely has a bad connection.
@@IrwinFilms actually turned out to be battery :)
what music is this ?
The M.2 SSD drive, could that slot be used for a wifi Card as well??
Hi man, thank you for this video. I have the same laptop. My screen is kinda flickering, and I tried all the software solutions given on UA-cam (tutorials). Tony Celliers yes you can. Just take off the back and disconnect the battery. You don’t have to completely tear it down.
I realize this was a long time ago, but did you fix your code 43? I'm having the same issue with my GPU (GTX 880M).
I have a question, why does my PC which is the one in the video randomly freezes whenever I play a game on It, does it relate to the fans?
How much do you need to go/open to get to the speakers? Thanks
how much thermal paste should you use when reconnecting the gpu heatsync
Matthew Johnson a very small amount. You may not even need any. Most laptops use thermal pads instead of thermal paste.
What type of connector is that? The one for HDD 2 bay. Thanks
That's an mSATA drive not M.2 sata on these Alienware models
I realize that now. Never claimed to be an expert, but I just wanted to help people because I know a lot of people who were curious as to how to get into this beast. Thanks for the comment!

what screwdriver i need. send me a link on one from amazon please??!!
ballin_arellano559 it’s just a small Phillips head screwdriver.

Is compatible gtx 970 /980 /1060?

Yo guys my sound seems to be dead on this laptop--where should I look to make sure that everything's plugged in?
Hm but there is no intruction how to remove cmos battery....
I need a hint to remove the battery, too
You have to go deeper down onto the other side
