    A tape line on the miter saw and a pencil mark for a measurement that's too short for the ruler on the miter rail? I'm stealing that idea! All of this was really great stuff. Thank you!

      I’m guilty of stealing ideas too. Never let a good one go to waste! Thanks for your compliment

      Gino Asci go to 3:30 and watch when he puts the blue painters tape on the inside edge of the miter saw fence.

    This is exactly what I need for my shoes. Any chance on posing the plans so I know the cuts to make?

    How much would someone charge for something similar like this? And is there a local store that will do this?

    • @johnbarneswood
      @johnbarneswood  6 років тому

      You can probably buy a shoe rack for around $30-$40 if it’s factory made and mass produced. If it’s coming from someone’s shop, more like $60-$100.
      I wouldn’t know if a local store would.. sorry

      Jonathan'sWorkshop Thanks. Maybe I'll give it a shot with the show rack and cut it down. I needed it for my birds haha. Rollers. (:

    Hi I'm new to this kinda stuff and i want to make something similar to house my bags in my built in closet. What i wanted to ask is what kind of wood did you use and also the cuts that are made into the wood so that the corresponding piece can interlock creating those cubbies did you just measure half way up the board? If you know what i mean

    • @johnbarneswood
      @johnbarneswood  6 років тому +3

      I used 1/2” plywood and 3/4”x3/4” strips of pine.
      I measured to the center of each shelf and cut 1/4” on either side away, cutting half down the depth of the board. Then I repeated that process at intervals going down the center wall to enter lock the shelves. Good luck!!
      Edit: wall not walk

    A goodshoe rack, sure. A decent shoerack, ok. But you have balls to call it perfect considering all that wasted space.

    what gauge of brads are you using for this project? I am looking at picking up a gun but am not sure what size to go with. Im looking at this 18 gauge one but Im not sure if it would be a good one. %90 of the time it would be for applications like this but I would still like to use it for other purposes if the need comes up.. Is 18 gauge kinda small for general and all around type of work?

    • @johnbarneswood
      @johnbarneswood  6 років тому

      I’m using 18 gauge here. 18 you’ll use 90% of the time, but it’s good to have a 16 as well if you need a little more strength. You can get a decent Wen brad nailer on Amazon for around $25 I think

    Man spends day building shelf, sets it up, puts the shoes on it and considers the project a success. Hi wife sees it and starts complaining:
    I don't like it. It's too big. It doesn't match the hallway decor. I think we should go to Ikea to find something better. And then cuts him off from sex until he throws out his work and gives into her demands.
    Typical day in the life of a married man.
