Hürrem loses her power in the council and tries for her daughter to marry Rüstem. Suleiman, asks her daughter if she wants that.
Suleiman learns that his son has sailed and sends him a message. He meets with Mustafa out of sight and teaches him a big lesson. Mimar Sinan gets called for Hürrem's social complex construction and becomes the chief architect. Hürrem plays a new trick that she wants Sultana Şah and Lütfi Pasha to fall out each other. Sultana Şah doesn't realize it and does everything to prevent the marriage. However, Hürrem makes her daughter to face with a truth that changes Mihrimah's and the empire's fate.
Hürrem loses her power in the council as Lütfi Pasha becomes the grand vizier but she takes an action without losing time. She both tries to provide Litfi Pasha and Sultana Şah to fall out each other and convince Mihrimah to get married with Rüstem. Because Suleiman has laid down his daughter's will as a condition. However, Mihrimah still thinks of Malkoçoğlu. She gets consumed with jealousy when she finds out he sees a Venetian woman.
Suleiman tells Prince Mustafa to come to Bursa when he learns that he has sailed and teaches him a lesson that he will never forget. Mustafa realizes he and his father are getting more distant during this meeting. He also gets hurt that his father is so close to Prince Mehmet. Sultana Şah has with Lütfi Pasha and strengthen Hürrem's hand when she gets overwhelmed by her ambition.
Meanwhile, Hürrem realizes that Mihrimah hasn't given up from Bali Bey. She thinks it's the time to have her daughter face the truth. Mihrimah gets devastated by her mother's plot and makes a shocking decision.
At the age of 26, when he ascended to the throne, Sultan Suleiman aimed to build an empire more powerful than Alexander the Great and to render the Ottomans invincible. Throughout his 46-year reign, he became the greatest warrior and ruler of both East and West.
The young Suleiman received news of his succession to the throne during a hunting party in 1520. Unaware that he would be ruling a reign beyond his dreams, he left behind his wife son and took to the road with his close friend and companion Pargali Ibrahim to reach the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. As they started their journey overland, an Ottoman ship set sail from Crimea in the Black Sea, bringing female slaves as gifts for the Ottoman palace… On this ship was Alexandra La Rossa, the daughter of a Ukrainian Orthodox minister, taken away from her family and sold to the Crimean palace. She had no idea that she would become Hurrem, wife of Sultan Suleiman and mother of princes, ruling the empire with him through bloodshed and intrigue.
As Sultan Suleiman conquered the world, his great passion for Hurrem would clash with his love for and trust in his closest friend and advisor, Grand Vizier Pargali Ibrahim, all set against the backdrop of the tension between Christian Europe and the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century.

I never understood why everyone hated Rustem. Like how did they know he’s this “bloodsucking snake” as they call him? Rustem covers his tracks very well and yet everyone loathed him, while Ibrahim openly made terrible mistakes and everyone turned a blind eye. I enjoy the show but the bias is unbelievable

I agree. What they should have done was never have Rustem be "in love" with her. Have Mihrimah except the Bali Bay didn't love her and drop that plot line for good. Then have Mihrimah suggest the marriage the Rustem to her mother as a way to dill with Litfi becoming the new Grand Vazer.

Royal marriages, especially back then, were to do with power - not romance. I think this period was the Tudor age in England, where royalty marriages were very similar (power, money, alliances, etc)
Simple: Women didn't have power back then. They just didn't. Her power only went as far as the Sultan allowed for it to go and so on. Marrying powerful men protected the women, ideally, and so on. Seems horrific to our standards now, but it was about survival back then.
In reality the actual Hürrem Sultana wanted her daughter to marry the handsome governor but Suleiman wouldn’t allow it
It was normal for dynasties, royal families, etc. Marie Antoinette was sent to marry in France for political Alliance and she wasn't welcomed warmly at 1st from what I read. Rustem pash was one one of the powerful ottoman vizier and he was favourite son in law of Suleiman. Mihrimah lived a very happy life with him. She even built mosque for him.They've potrayed him in the show very down rated and cheap like everyone hating him. I don't understand all the positive characters were spoiled in the show..
I kind of liked the moment of camaraderie between Mustafa and Rustem. Too bad these two had to be on opposite sides.
