That's this new generation man this shit is crazy. They want to believe that racism doesn't exist anymore to the point their doing shit like this and can sit and engage in an conversation about it so causally.

Exactly. It's cloaked as something artful/ intellectual, but really it's just a hedonistic play that disrespects our ancestors. All they went through, and now this....

im a black actress. literally was just on playbill.com where theatre actors go to find jobs and auditions........ the description reads for the character Kaneisha "Late 20s- mid 30s. Black/ African-American. She has dark skin and is from the American South. Kaneisha is unafraid of what she knows she wants. Self-aware and cognizant of human psychology. This role contains simulated acts of a sexual nature. "
im literally disgusted . this does not help our ppl and im hurt that he felt shucking and jiving this hard is the only way he can be recognized as a writer. it would literally EMBARRASS ME to go to this open call. i fell betrayed. this bitch really dropped the ball for us. and the black actresses and actors just trynna collect a fucking check

Thank you for this comment. It is very insightful. I have kids in my family who want to be actors. It's disheartening to know this is the danger they have to face just for chasing their dreams. They don't yet know the cut throat industry they crave.

metaphors should not be used when talking about racism. racism is not a wound or a scar it is terrorism against black people / now for listeners and people watching this video you realize that if he said those words no one would go see that play - that's the point......

He has sold himself to the elite. The fact that he could make a play based on the most outrageous atrocities known to human beings is baffling to say the least, if he knew truly the horror experienced from the people directly effected he’d think twice ... the conditioning is real, and not talking his hair. SMH!

I honestly feel like this man didn’t write this play or had anything to do with the production. The way he’s responding to the questions she’s asking he seems lost like he’s trying to remember what he was told to say. I feel like a white man or woman wrote this didn’t wanna get called racist or get any backlash from the black community so they found a black face to rep this and try to get black people on bored 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏾‍♀️ DONT FALL FOR IT‼️

When I heard about this show it sounded like racism disguised as art. Then I read the part script and was disgusted. I have no idea what he's talking about with "throw some honey and then punch them in the face" because just getting through the first page was a punch in the face. Racism, sexuality, slavery in America and how it hurts everyone; these are things that need to be talked about but NOT in the way this play presents it. Honestly whoever read this script and thought this was a good idea should be slapped.

The libra in me is trying to understand where he’s coming from so bad, yes there are many slave narratives that we don’t hear about and in order for us to heal fully we shouldn’t be afraid to talk about things that make us uncomfortable, but the fact that my living great grandmother may be triggered by this from her own story and memories of her mother and so on i must show her compassion and loyalty.

@FRANCO PEREZ Using slavery in the form of satire as a conduit to explain racial issues is unacceptable. Have you been educated beyond "12 Years a Slave" about the horrific occurrences of the transatlantic slave trade? Clearly not, or you truly don't care. Horrific events faced by other ethnic groups are not used in such a manner to explain important issues.
Take your pseudo-intellectual head out of your backside and think logically for a second.
