i don’t think she was meant to be with stevie at all. i distinctly remember max, justin, and alex using the IPP after reading stories that seemed a little too close to their lives (they were written by harper from the future), and when alex got mad after finding out, FUTURE HARPER had said “did mason break up with you already?” i feel like it was a major 2023 take for the producers. i’m sure if there was a rewrite, or if WOWP never existed and dropped as a new show in 2023, absolutely they would be together in some capacity.

I do see the flirtatious nature of Stevie and how Alex is drawn to her. I know the relationship never came into fruition BUT I can definitely see how that was the desire. I know Disney was not ready for that so from a story telling standpoint it would’ve bogged down the flow of the show if she was just an extra friend. To anyone who says that "they weren't really together and this is just the creators jumping on the diversity train years later": Keep in mind that these episodes came out in 2010. Gravity Falls came out two years later and ran throughout 2016. Disney refused, all the way up through 2016, to allow the cops to be a couple. They let them have exactly one scene in the finale saying they were into each other and that was it. They gave them a Korrasami moment and that was it. Do you really think a storyline in a Disney show released five years before Obergefell v. Hodges would EVER have the balls to depict a gay couple? We only just got Luz and Amity being a couple on a Disney Channel show and even THAT got shortened because the network decided to go in another direction.
I believe the show runner of this show actually came out and confirmed that they wanted to play with the idea of them together but Disney wouldn’t let them!

Idk I feel like characters that are too similar are boring as a couple. There’s no dynamic because they behave the exact same in any given situation. Stevie didn’t bring out any of the positive sides of Alex, and on,y encouraged her bad traits. They never would’ve worked. That’s not how real couples function.
I thought the same until the Eat The Beat episode. Stevie saw how toxic Alex and Justin were, and she put a stop to it. It made Alex think more about how much she goes too far, and that a lot of the things she argues about isn’t worth their relationship being ruined. I still don’t think Alex and Stevie should be together long term, but I do think she was a good learning experience for Alex
