I think it sounds even better in Russian personally. I like songs in other languages because I usually pay too much attention to the lyrics and this way I can just enjoy the song. Plus languages fascinate me beyond words and I love learning them.

I grew up in a bi-lingual Russian and Polish family and love to hear the Russian here in this song. Unfortunately, us grandchildren didn't get taught Russian or Polish, just some short phrases. I really wish they taught us the language. Russian has it's own alphabet, therefore it's very hard to learn - we'd have to learn an alphabet and the language too. Thanks Regina for giving us the pleasure of your wonderful talent in your native language!!
I don't have to understand a word of it. It's always a pleasure to hear her voice, no matter what the language.

I love it when she does Russian. I literally memorized the entire Russian portion of Apres Moi, well, along with the rest of the song. But I can recite every Russian Word. DO MORE RUSSIAN!!
I love how the rhymes she made in the English version don't exactly rhyme in Russian, but it still sounds more than amazing!
I thought I was having a stroke when I first heard this on a playlist. It's beautiful, like everything Regina does, but it's very alarming to hear a familiar tune with words you can't understand.

Регина Спектор - музыкальный гений. Она проживает каждую свою песню, заставляя сделать то же самое каждого отдельного слушателя. Невозможно описать словами ту бурю эмоций, что испытываешь внутри, впервые «уединившись» со Спектор. Кажется, что она читает твои мысли, но в этом нет никакой магии. Удивительно, но деньги, выступления перед президентами и бесконечные оды её таланту совершенно не испортили Регину. Она всё та же девчонка из «перестроечной России», а история её удивительного успеха лишь в очередной раз доказывает, что никакие преграды не могут встать на пути настоящего таланта.

Actually we have a bunch of suffixes(particles) which mean cuteness. We have a lot of them. A lot. And this song has a lot of them too.

And about her becoming famous: as i know, she didn't sing in Paris cafes because she never lived there. She used to sing in New-York cafes just after emigration from Moscow ( but in this short period between leaving Moscow and coming to NY she had been living in Vienna and somewhere else for a short time) and she became famous because of her good performances in NY cafes and clubs, as i know. her talent was spotted there by a famous producer. This is what i know:) maybe i'm not 100% right

Yes, she says that on Bowery in New York everybody loses everything in the night and that if you've got a light - then oy're my friend:) so, you're right) but i should say that the translation, fortunately, wasn't done just word by word like in a google, not at all. She has done a great work, because she managed to play with the Russian words using some difficult ways of forming sentences and some idioms just as if she had never left Russia:) a great job for a person who left Russia 23 years ago
