You've got a great eye for games to review, buddy. Obscure enough that it's interesting to watch, but not so obscure that it doesn't have some strong nostalgia for a lot of people. The "You Screwed Up and Are Dying Now!" music from this game is still stuck in my head to this day!
My favorite part of this game had to be the room with the three animals. I don't want to give it away to anyone who hasn't played it, but if you do you'll get a good laugh if you mess up. And just like Shadowgate I enjoy purposely getting killed just to read the fate of your character. I loved this game and well worth playing if you've never had the chance. Thanks again for your time.
I'm way late with this comment, but I grew up with this game, 40 years old now, and I have to say the music adds so much to the creepiness of this game. I love Deja Vu and Shadowgate so much too, but this NES version just really did it for a young me. I honestly think it's the most chilling, atmospheric NES game, but that's just me, rose colored glasses and such.
I loved all of the point and click games for Nintendo systems. I still have Deja'vu, Shadowgate, and Uninvited. I also have a Game Boy Color two game pack with Deja'vu and Deja'vu 2 on it. Sword of Hope and Sword of Hope 2 for the Game Boy and Game Boy Color, and Rescue: The Embassy Mission which is a faster paced hostage rescue team game with similar imagery for the NES. I've beat them all except Uninvited. After seeing this review I'm nostalgic for these games and should finally get around to beating it.
Shadowgate was such a good game. Liked it more than Deja Vu. Liked Maniac Mansion to but that game was insanely hard!! Looking foward to play Uninvited though.
I loved Uninvited and the 2 other titles from MacVenture. Shadowgate is probably everyone's favorite. There were no guides for these when I was a kid though, except for Shadowgate in a Nintendo Power Magazine. So I had to figure them out by trial and error. I think thats why I liked them so much because they had to be solved mostly by common sense, using your head, investigating your surroundings, and examining/reading everything you can for clues. Maniac Mansion was another favorite title of mine on the NES. Great games.
when i was 6 (in 1990) i always acted like i wasn't afraid of scary movies and stuff like my older siblings so when we got to go rent some games one night my sister rented SMB2 and I saw this and wanted to prove i could play a "scary" game and be just fine....yea this game terrified me with the scarlett ghost....had nightmares and until much later if i even saw the box at a rental store i would have a nightmare about it lol but when i got older i finally played it and beat it and gotta say it is probably the closest to a "scary" game on the NES :) has very unsettling mood to it at times.
I never played Uninvited on the NES, though I dabbled with it briefly in emulator form. I didn't even manage to get out of the car before it burst into flames, lol. However, I played Shadowgate extensively when it first came out through renting and thoroughly enjoyed it, and even though I never beat it that fact didn't stop me from buying the remastered version on PC through Steam, which I highly recommend. Deja Vu though, now that one was my jam! I borrowed it from a friend and managed to muddle my way through and eventually got the best ending! Good times with some great games. Thanks for the awesome video and stay safe out there!

I loved these MacVenture series games, as I made a mention on one of your other videos. The games were just fun, and I gladly got them on the PS4 and of course I got them on the NES and kept them. The music in the game(s) can be memorable, my bedroom was on the 2nd floor of my house and of course that's where my NES was kept and my brother and I would play it there. However when I was playing Uninvited, my mother needed me for something and then the spooky music starts to play and she yells my name. My brother was watching me play and I let out the girlish scream and my brother still teases me about it to this day. Still, gotta say, I loved the "relaxed" feel of these games as you weren't being bombarded in the game and could just play at your own pace. I ended up getting the gameboy color version of Deja Vu 1 and 2, let's just say, I am glad that I was finally able to play the 2nd one in the Deja Vu series but I don't think you'd enjoy it very much, there's a very steep curve in the game and iirc you are on a timer on that game. Oh and last mention, those MacVenture games are available also on ios and on the PC to purchase, and of course, I loved them so much I got them on the ios, pc, and PS4. The PS4 versions are the NES versions of the games, ios and PC versions are of course the Apple versions of the games and can be played in black and white or in color.
Thank you for sharing - holy crap, yeah that would be freaky if you're sitting there listening to that spooky music and getting all into if, then out of nowhere a loud voice yells your name (even if it is a familiar voice)!
Damn, you actually beat this as a kid? Growing up I couldn't beat a single Macventure game :( Deja Vu is still my favorite though. Really wish they'd remake it in the vein of the Shadowgate remake, which is still coming to consoles for those curious.
I uh... had a lot of free time as a kid lol..... Still haven't played the Shadowgate remake but at some point wanna check it out. I wasn't crazy about the art style.
Awesome, just awesome Aaron. Your gift of creating game reviews is truly a treasure. Thank you for your hard work on this one. Shadowgate is my all time, 2nd is Deja Vu, and 3rd is obviously Uninvited. I have the PC versions along with the NES versions. I rather prefer the NES versions because I enjoy the music and the colors are more vibrant than the PC versions imo. Unfortunately, I can't think of any other adventure games than the ones you mentioned for NES which is a shame. I read some responses to questions on that sight for Infested. Turns out the person responsible for creating that game is going to make more! Can't wait for that! Thanks again big man.
Lots of love for the Kemco Macventure ports on the NES. This one definitely wasn't as good as Shadowgate or Deja Vu, but it has a lot of memorable moments in it.
I actually got to play the original MacVenture games on the Macintosh my computer teacher had in junior high. She would let one of us rotate on it every Friday and play our game of choice on it. Deja Vu and Shadowgate were 2 of the games she had, and I LOVED Shadowgate. I made sure to collect them all for the NES later on, too. These games and Maniac Mansion are what started my love of point and click adventure games, and I still revisit them from time to time. Nothing beats the catchy music of Shadowgate.
Wow - that's interesting. Thank you for sharing. I'm surprised to hear they were letting you play this at school in junior high. The computer versions were a bit more grisly (esp. Deja Vu and Uninvited). Although I feel like these games were great at building problem solving skills. I agree - Shadowgate is still hands down my fave of the bunch.
The computer teacher was freakin' awesome. We also got to play Barbarian, decapitations and all. Mostly nobody cared about violent imagery back then unless there was some nudity involved, then everybody lost their minds. She was one that felt games were important for education as well, and we played them in her classes often.
loved this game as a kid, it creeped me out! It was hard to figure out how to beat it - I would usually get stuck when you go outside and the road forks into the three buildings
I remember renting this game from Blockbuster when it came out in 1991. This game was hard as hell, but I eventually beat it after so many rentals. Good memories.
Check out 8-Bit Adventure Anthology on PS4 and probably other platforms. Has all three games ported to NES. The Uninvited, Deja Vu and last but not least, Shadowgate itself. I just beat The Uninvited last night and am working on Deja Vu now. There's trophies for each game awarded for dying in very specific ways in each game, too.
Thanks for for the vid. It was really cool to see this. I remember reading about all of these games in my Nintendo Powers in the '80s and '90s. God, amazing little gems in gaming, no?
I never owned any of these adventure games but I did rent them from Blockbuster. I never played Uninvited BITD, as the Blockbusters near me never had it. I DID play Deja Vu and I beat Shadowgate.
Im one of the guys who never found out it was the Ruby until the internet broke. I thought the game came that way to make it harder, and I never liked that aspect. Loved my meandering and listening to the tunes and figuring things out.
Great game. Never beat it, but I'm not the best at figuring out these old school point-and-click games. There were three of us trying to figure this game out, but we were too stuck to finish it. Might try again someday.
It's a bit sad, that uninvited never got a Gameboy Color Re-Release like the 2 Deja-Vu Games or Shadowgate. I played Deja-Vu on GBC first and beside of some trials and error, I damn enjoyed the game😃
Regarding the moment at 4:40, perhaps Nintendo hadn't known the meaning behind the name. Weight is lent to this notion by virtue of the fact that there was a character on Yu-Gi-Oh names Alister, whose name may have also been a reference to this, whose name was not changed in the English dub. Regarding the moment at 5:35 likewise, I remember always taking the ruby whenever I played the game as well, assuming it would be important and never realized the connection between it and the devious red skull.
Nice. I had to shut it off, as excited as I was to see this, I actually have a copy of this and I've barely played it any.... I think I will do that and avoid "spoilers" ; great subject choice , and I'll check back on the vid once I get stuck! (After all these decades I still haven't done a full walk through and beat shadowgate , but I get farther every time I play. These games, and these videos , are great
Did these game characters learn nothing from Splatterhouse or Resident Evil? Nothing good could come out of going into that old mansion. Haha! Solid review Aaron, I liked how macabre some of these games were. 🤘
One minor, pedantic correction from a guy with weird interests: Crowley rhymes with "holy" and he would have found the idea of worshipping Satan absurd. He did come up with his own mystical religion called Thelema, but it isn't based on a Judeo-Christian paradigm.
Geez man shadowgate was easy as pie compared to uninvited. I have so much trouble playing this game I had to use a walkthrough for part of it . I had an issue of Nintendo Power covering the totality of shadowgate and it hasn't ruined the game for me.
I am absolutely loving your content, and I am so happy that I followed the ad to your channel! I do have one thing to say though: Crowley isn’t really linked to satanism in any substantial way. He did found a religion/philosophy called Thelema, which is heavily influenced by Buddhism and Hinduism, and also helped Gerald Gardener codify modern Wicca, but satanism is attributed to Anton LaVey, not Crowley.
It is supposed to be all spooky and scary and then you play the game walk into the first room everything's all nice bright and vibrant and even a little star rug lolololololol
Yeah only like 15$ or was it 5$ I don’t know but it is really cheap so give it a shot and the same thing is available on ps4 so there is no way to not play it
@Friday Night Arcade What's funny as hell to me, even though the box art came first, it really reminds me of Jeff Dunham's Achmed the dead terrorist. Makes me laugh every time I look at it..

There was a B&W version, a version that had turquoise kinda CGA graphics and then the Apple IIgs version was full color. Think it just depended on what you were playing on.
0:03 how my day is going
I am starting to question the reliability of my eyes as well.
You've got a great eye for games to review, buddy. Obscure enough that it's interesting to watch, but not so obscure that it doesn't have some strong nostalgia for a lot of people.
The "You Screwed Up and Are Dying Now!" music from this game is still stuck in my head to this day!
Nice. It was rare to see point and click games on the NES.
Because PAC games are hard in consoles.
It's easy now since there's touchscreen cp now.
Thank god someone reviewed this.
The Japanese version has the zombie in the attic holding his own head.
My favorite part of this game had to be the room with the three animals. I don't want to give it away to anyone who hasn't played it, but if you do

Kemco games were really creepy and mysterious. Some of my fave ganes of all time, great work ! Thanks!

Seriously the best soundtracks of any games I ever played .
I love all the Macventure games, but this one is probably my favorite.

You should try an nes homebrew game called Infested!
It's absolutely AMAZING!

Finished Shadowgate and Deja vu in the 90’s on my NES. Never did hear of Uninvited. Gonna give it a shot on my emulator!!
I owned "The Uninvited" and both "Deja Vu" games, for the Amiga, the uninvited scared me shitless the first night i played it with that ghost lady. :p
I thought Deja Vu 2 was only on the Gameboy color. Never knew it was on Amiga to.
I loved these MacVenture series games, as I made a mention on one of your other videos. The games were just fun, and I gladly got them on the PS4 and of course I got them on the NES and kept them. My brother and I rented this game back in the nineties, we ended up going outside instead. Hahaha! Btw, love this channel, man!
lol yeah... if you don't know what you're doing, going outside is a perfectly reasonable alternative on this one lol.... hey thanks!
Lots of love for the Kemco Macventure ports on the NES. This one definitely wasn't as good as Shadowgate or Deja Vu, but it has a lot of memorable moments in it.

loved this game as a kid, it creeped me out! It was hard to figure out how to beat it - I would usually get stuck when you go outside and the road forks into the three buildings
The box art from this series is awesome! I loved the Shadowgate box, and this one is just horrible enough to attract the curious gamer.
I remember renting this game from Blockbuster when it came out in 1991. This game was hard as hell, but I eventually beat it after so many rentals. Good memories.
Big fan of Shadowgate and Deja Vu and I just find out about this game. Looking foward to play this. The good old Nintendo never gets old
Check out 8-Bit Adventure Anthology on PS4 and probably other platforms. Has all three games ported to NES. The Uninvited, Deja Vu and last but not least, Shadowgate itself.
I just beat The Uninvited last night and am working on Deja Vu now. There's trophies for each game awarded for dying in very specific ways in each game, too.
Wow, thanks for showing me the think with Shadowgate on there. Really cool!!
10:00 well, I'm convinced. The NES version of this game looks better in black and white
I definitely appreciated point and click games alot more when i hit my teens
Shadowgate is the only one that I have played. I loved it when it was released on the nes. I also bought it when it was released on the Gameboy color.
Thanks for for the vid. It was really cool to see this. I remember reading about all of these games in my Nintendo Powers in the '80s and '90s. God, amazing little gems in gaming, no?
Wow! I missed this one as a kid and I'm upset about it.
The Shadowgate overture is wretched to hear on that phonograph!
It is bloody awful isn't it?!
I never owned any of these adventure games but I did rent them from Blockbuster. I never played Uninvited BITD, as the Blockbusters near me never had it. I DID play Deja Vu and I beat Shadowgate.

There was a 1944 film of the same name that must (unless it's an incredible coincidence) have inspired some elements of this game.
Nice. I had to shut it off, as excited as I was to see this, I actually have a copy of this and I've barely played it any.... lol no kidding... "uh, good luck sis! call an Uber and meet me at home!"
Note to self: Grab my android phone and open my _Nostalgia.NES Lite_ emulator, click the _Uninvited_ saved game and DROP THAT DANG RUBY!!!
Friday Night! Let's do this!!
One minor, pedantic correction from a guy with weird interests: Crowley rhymes with "holy" and he would have found the idea of worshipping Satan absurd. He did come up with his own mystical religion called Thelema, but it isn't based on a Judeo-Christian paradigm.
I found so much conflicting information about him that I didn't know what the heck he "officially" was... thanks for clarifying.
No problem. He was nothing if not strange and prolific.
What makes the one eyed bat appear? In the umpteen times I played this, I don't recall it ever showing up.
I think if it's when you're *not* carrying a certain item, maybe?
@@FridayNightArcade I suppose that would explain why I never saw it. I grabbed every single thing in that house like a cartoon burglar.
Geez man shadowgate was easy as pie compared to uninvited. I have so much trouble playing this game I had to use a walkthrough for part of it . I had an issue of Nintendo Power covering the totality of shadowgate and it hasn't ruined the game for me.
I remember renting this game.
I loved shadowgate, but when I got the uninvited, I was disappointed
The one dislike is by the demon.
thanks for the video.
Are you planning on LP-ing this game or Shadowgate on this channel or the FNA plays channel?
I did live stream Shadowgate all the way through recently :)

4:54 I need the link of it to see side by side Dos version of Uninvited
I am absolutely loving your content, and I am so happy that I followed the ad to your channel! I do have one thing to say though: Crowley isn’t really linked to satanism in any substantial way. Yeah I goofed on that one but otherwise thanks for checking out the show.
Friday Night Arcade I’m definitely enjoying it! I’m bingeing your catalog after work.
It is supposed to be all spooky and scary and then you play the game walk into the first room everything's all nice bright and vibrant and even a little star rug lolololololol
lol yeah... the scariest thing is how much useless crap they keep in their pantry.
You can play deja vu shadowgate and this on Xboxone with the 8 bit collection
Whoa really?!
Yeah only like 15$ or was it 5$ I don’t know but it is really cheap so give it a shot and the same thing is available on ps4 so there is no way to not play it
I need to own this game
I recommend it.
id like a Mc Flurry with my Mc VENTURE
That's 75 cents extra.
oh hell yea new vid ty bro
@Friday Night Arcade
What's funny as hell to me, even though the box art came first, it really reminds me of Jeff Dunham's Achmed the dead terrorist. Makes me laugh every time I look at it..
100% accurate.
its your sister in the nes version? what is even the point to change it from your younger brother to sister. I definitely like the apple IIgs visuals more than this one though
I have no idea why they changed it. Not sure if it seemed "more traditional" to have a damsel in distress scenario. The Apple IIg version had awesome graphics.
now that I think of it the only macventure I ever played on an actual mac OS is deja vu. There's a certain charm with what I believe was CGA graphics of the original titles, but I definitely could be wrong . Even though the black&white I thought purple and turquoise are in it also?
There was a B&W version, a version that had turquoise kinda CGA graphics and then the Apple IIgs version was full color. Think it just depended on what you were playing on.
Awesome review. I didn’t have a home PC or NES, so I love hearing about these cool games. One point though, Aleister Crowley was not a Satanist
to goofy compared to shadowgate
Everyone pronounce s Crowley wrong, Alistair Crowley himself said you pronounce his name Crowley to rhyme with holy.
Ííī
Hated this GAME
Yes it’s finally here!
