@@Taveren Like The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes ending abruptly with Galactus in S2. That show executed some characters & story arcs better than the MCU (Hulk, Thor, Kang, Ultron, Red Skull, Adam Warlock, Ant-Man/Yellowjacket + Wasp, Ms. Marvel/Carol Danvers, Secret Invasion etc.). I’m glad they brought back X-Men ‘97. I know they’re 100% gonna bring back the 90s Spider-Man, but I’d much prefer to see a continuation of Spectacular & EMH. I also hope the BW crew react to EMH someday, even if most of them have already seen it. It’s so good.
It’s a double edged sword as we get characters introduced next season that we didn’t get to see the payoff. I love that they introduce characters well before they become super relevant.
I felt the same as Eric when first seeing this episode, as I too didn't know about Chameleon so I thought at first they were revialing that Kurt Conners was evil or something 😅 😅. Also, the nice flirtatious chemistry between black cat and spiderman is one that I feel like we don't see as much in cartoons these days 😎.
RIGHT!? When I rewatched this show, she sounded so familiar and when I learned it was Tricia Helfer I lost it. Of course she voices the sexy Cat Burglar.
The MCU needs to take notes from this show for their black suit arc. Have it start out with the appearance of an ordinary fabric suit with his basic spider logo, but overtime it transitions into that inky, organic/alien texture with the webbing pattern fading & being replaced by the white veins of the symbiote. The mouth on the spider design grows, as well as the legs, spreading across his chest til it resembles that classic Venom logo. It’d also be the perfect time to debut the Black Cat as his new love interest & part of the supporting cast (along with the Human Torch as his best friend + maybe Yuri Watanabe), since he’s taking a break from Ned & MJ and his new allies will likely be people who can protect themselves rather than normal civilians. The symbiote can feed off that toxic relationship with Felicia as she encourages him to embrace his dark side until it becomes too scary & overwhelming. I also like the detail in this show & in the comics of it taking control of Peter’s body as he sleeps. I hope we get a lot of time with the black suit (like 2 solo films + at least 1 crossover like the Fantastic Four where Reed can warn him about the suit like in the comics). Have it start off as a positive relationship & power buff, but over time, Peter & the symbiote turn out to be too toxic for each other. I would have Mac Gargan be the MCU Venom. Let Michael Mando play a major role & show off his psycho/sinister acting chops after sitting on the sidelines in prison for so long.
I agree that Black Cat would be the perfect opportunity to show up now in the MCU. Be the bad influence, the romantic temptation that the down on his luck Peter would be attracted to because he has no one to share his life and problems with. And Gargan would actually be a good choice as a villain for a Black Suit story since he was part of a famous comic story where he got the Symbiote and was quite the menace with it. I could see the MCU doing that since they seem to try and avoid doing things previous films did.
An awesome introduction to the Black Suit and Symbiote, as well as Black Cat. Everything done with these characters from here out is done so well and the aftereffects will be even better!

Also, admittedly, I might be exaggerating if I say Venom is my absolutely least favourite, because there's stuff like Morlun, the Clone Saga version of the Jackal, Kindred, and a few others. I think my least favourite right now has to be Chasm. But from the really famous A-List villains - the ones you immediately think of when you hear "Spider-Man Rogues Gallery" - Venom has to be the one I dislike most. In case you are curious about what I dislike about Venom: it's not even that I hate the character all that much - I don't get why everyone loves him so much, but he's perfectly fine. I just think that everything interesting about the character comes from his own comics and his own storylines. As a Spider-Man villain, I think he's pretty bad. Venom appeared relatively rarely, had a terribly stupid and unbelievable motivation for hating Spider-Man, a complete lack of backstory and nevertheless got a lot of attention, mostly because he was exactly what comic readers found cool in the 90s. The symbiote was introduced in a really weird way, I think - in some event Spider-Man happens to be exposed to alien sludge, learns it's sentient, goes "oh, okay" and then he runs around in the Black Suit for a while. Then the suit tries to take over his body. So he gets rid off it. THE END. No explanations for what the backstory of the alien is, what species it is, why or how it acted the way it did. It just happened. Just like that. And as much as people like the shared Marvel universe, Spider-Man is not really supposed to routinely deal with aliens, just like he shouldn't routinely deal with cloning, magic totems or satanic interventions. It's pretty much fan consensus that THAT stuff is out of place in his comics, yet the Alien that is casually dropped in was okay? Then the symbiote reappeared and was a good guy that saved Spider-Man's life. Then it appeared again, this time it was evil and wanted to kill him again? And it bonded with an unknown rival of Peter Parker that wanted revenge - who takes off his mask and turns out to be a character that... had never been seen or mentioned ever before, Eddie Brock. And his motivation? He's angry at Peter because... he got fired at his newspaper. Which somehow he blames indirectly on work that Peter did... at a different newspaper? Then they fought, around three or four times, then Carnage came, and then Venom was a good guy. If you really look into the time period between Eddie's debut and him becoming an anti-hero, there isn't really that much personal history between him and Spider-Man, and what little there is is tainted because of the really unconvincing reasons that Venom has for wanting revenge. Not too long after, he got his own series... which, from what I heard, fixes everything I dislike about him. He has his own lore, a complex backstory for the symbiotes, a unique relationship between host and symbiote, etc. Eddie has reasons for doing what he does, the symbiote has reasons for doing what it does, both have a past that is explained to the reader, which is logically consistent, satisfying etc. BUT: that series is in San Francisco, with an entire continent between him and Spider-Man. It has pretty much nothing to do with him at all. He is not a villain but an anti-hero. Honestly, he isn't even a Spider-Man character anymore, in fact, if I understand correctly, the symbiote via the backstory with Knull and Gorr has technically more connections to Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy then it has to Spider-Man.

Most of my love for Venom comes from his aesthetic and non primary sources such the different animated series which generally do a better job of setting up and portraying the character (Spectacular, for instance). And no, no offense taken, my comment was tongue in cheek. I won't begrudge anybody's dislike of anything as long as they're not unreasonable wankers about it. And you're honestly not wrong about hokey goof villains being hard to hate, The Grizzly was such a ridiculous villain and I was cracking up reading the issue(s) he showed up in. Frankly, I'm not sure I could trust anybody who had legitimate hatred for Big Wheel and his ilk. And to be honest (and it's an unpopular opinion amongst Spidey fans) I'm similar to you in that I've always preferred Spider-Man being separate from the rest of the Marvel universe and dealing with his local threats. I think he works best as a solo act, and it's why I'm glad they weren't able to get any other Marvel character rights for Spectacular. It makes me a heretic in some circles, but it's how I feel. So the symbiote works way better as something that came to New York as opposed to the original Secret Wars origin, lol.

And you're honestly not wrong about hokey goof villains being hard to hate, The Grizzly was such a ridiculous villain and I was cracking up reading the issue(s) he showed up in. Frankly, I'm not sure I could trust anybody who had legitimate hatred for Big Wheel and his ilk.
And to be honest (and it's an unpopular opinion amongst Spidey fans) I'm similar to you in that I've always preferred Spider-Man being separate from the rest of the Marvel universe and dealing with his local threats. I think he works best as a solo act, and it's why I'm glad they weren't able to get any other Marvel character rights for Spectacular. It makes me a heretic in some circles, but it's how I feel. So the symbiote works way better as something that came to New York as opposed to the original Secret Wars origin, lol.
