I'm glad somebody finally notice and calling this out I feel the Flawless block mechanic should be more of a turn stealer like you're able to steal your turn instead of getting a guarantee combo it should be more like up 3 where you getting invincibility and you able to take back your time
And NOW YOU REALIZE why playing Johnny Cage well is so hard. No overhead in MK11 is a mile of difference from having no low starter like in MKX, when overheads beat an entire slew of options. Standing is where defense is actually at its weakest in this game, so if you can't make an opponent stand outside of the universal overhead, its excessively hard to open people up, outside of reading their minds 10 times per round.
Stop downplaying Johnny he still has some of the best strikethrow pressure staggers and comeback potential in the game but scrub players don't know how to play him so they think he's bad.
There is no downplay when the only characters played online are the top 5 characters in the game. None of his pressure is real to anyone that knows the frame data. When he is plus up close, literally only a low poke is guaranteed, everything else has a chance to be stopped by a quick mid or neutral ducked. His fireballs still occassionally whiff on block as do his normals, and he has irregular push back on many moves where he is pushed too far back to punish with any move except nutpunch. Some of his losing match ups are because of flaws in design more than any lack of tools, and players shouldn't have to put up with that. And no, his comeback factor is absolute garbage against the top five because there is no mix and they can keep him off or keep running away foe the entire match. He's better than moat of the cast, but when all you fight is gas mask Kabal. Sub Zero, Jade, Joker, Cetrion, and Jacqui... Johnny don't look so good anymore.
Oh and btw... I've been in and out of the top 1000 in ranked and versus with Johnny and I mained him since DAY 1 with all his flaws and he's 80% of my player usage... I play variationless and still wash people, so this is coming from someone who plays these unreasonable match ups.
@@greatnessexiled1655 again his strikethrow is some of the best in the game so if they were to disrespect your plus frames you can just finish his strings and hit confirm for a full combo... I’d say it’s more like Just Defense from SNK games than 3S parry for reasons stated in the video. In Garou, Just Defense is a late block and you’re allowed to guard cancel it with specific types of moves like Specials and Supers. Should they bring it back? I’d say yes, but it really needs so many tweaks to work in MK.
Snk games have much more over the top offense so having an OP defensive OS isn't that bad. The hops (which are way better than MK11) give everyone a super fast overhead and a lot of characters have easy high damage command grabs. The problem with FB is that its a mechanic that is usually in in airdashers and jump-y games and put it into a grounded low poke game. I think MKX type 50/50 fest would work well with FB but not MK11.
@@Pianet SamSho has Just Defense too, and it's not considered busted in any way despite the game's footsies oriented nature. Of course in SamSho you can't duck throws. This OS only works because in MK11 you can duck normal throws. No other 2D game does this AFAIK.
@@Rangaisia Sam sho does have its own sort of over powered offense in that the damage is completely over the top. The same concept applies. An overpowered defensive OS is ok if your offense is over the top.
Mk11 is one of those games that comes out and will fade out really fast. Learning high level options and optimal combos isn't rewarding and or satisfying to watch. Flawless block is probably the only high skill option you can pull off and even then it isn't consistent against certain spacing and characters hit boxes.
@@opssoldier3316 true. It could be that. But the defensive skill gap was much higher. Also the reaction timing for specific combos for corner carries and corner setups was more demanding.
You should only be able to flawless block jump attacks and strings that have plus frames p.s I didn’t put much thought into this just made it up so lemme know if there are flaws to this idea
It's not simple to patch it out. Technically if you do this after a safe string (let's say you're -5 on block and they check you with 7f poke), then in game's eyes you're in the neutral situation. How do you go about fixing this without disrupting normal use of flawless blocks like flawless blocking Kotal's f2? It's not "remove this mechanic from the game", a 1 day work for 1 person. It's a "find the solution, test the solution, polish the solution", which is probably a task for people in balance and QA teams. And we don't know when those were transitioned away from MK11.
@@Caribeancrysis I understand patching and testing takes time, but I suppose a better way to put it would be “How long was this known?” No one’s saying patch it as soon as it was known, but I was more or less wondering why nothing was done if this OS was known about for a long period of time

I do this all the time with 😂 what's a turn and what's plus frames? Especially with Geras. If I do his f32 against you. You better delay your attack or throw. What scrubs will do is use the low negative frame situations to mash d2. You see that with a lot of Scorpion players, it's annoying af. The better Scorpion players micro-duck and flawless block in those situations. Of course Jade players are notorious for the d2 when they're like -3 on block. For that Raiden example, that doesn't work against storm cell does it? It's still a guess between storm cell and the throw, right?
It would if characters had more options. 80% of the cast has no overhead starter to stop this and some of them have neither that or a fast mid so you can literally do this an entire match against them and avoid 90% of their offense with them never being able to deal any real damage using highs or throws. This forces people to make god like reads to get any hits at all, for a tactic that is not hard at all to do. And it's low risk super high reward.
Yeah, that's the problem as far as I can see. Lot of SNK and Anime games have similar "just defense" mechanics, but no OS like this because you can't duck throws and have to commit to a tech.
This is not even especially hard to learn. A few hours in training mode and a mid to intermediate player can get the OS down even if they don’t know every situation where it applies.
