I dont think Trent realizes that he is one of the few rockstars who still make amazing albums to this day. And his albums have the same amount of mystique and agility that they did when he started.
Very wise and graceful man. This seems like a good and respectful viewpoint to have as an aging artist. So many older artists always wanna bash kids and complain about how things are changing, and blame the millennials for their faltering careers. Trent's not doing any of that, he just accepts that things are changing and does his best to just keep moving along. Truly a class act, much respect!
Dani… you must be upset with T dawg… you’re making a lot of pissy responses. Why spend so much time talking about someone you obviously want to pretend you hate? You aren’t going to convince any fans to dislike him
The gentleman interviewing Trent and Atticus is Walter Flakus, from the band Stabbing Westward. Walter is an incredible keyboardist/programmer/musician as well. I had the honor of meeting him some years ago and he was so friendly.
I really truly believe the release of Blackstar and Bowie's death really made Trent put his career and his relevance into question more and made him consider a lot of things and it sparked the most exciting NIN's been making in years. Rest in peace Bowie, but damn did it ever inspire Trent to take it up a notch.
NIN speaks to me on a personal level especially the album WITH TEETH and The Downward Spiral with my moments in life that were hard and with my nihilistic view it has helped me find positivity within negativity and negative moments of life even if those moments last months or years
NIN forever even after 20+ years listening to them!!! And i personally don t care what they get or not for breakfast. We want NIN to forward their music (what they have inside, in their heart) not to make music to please this or this audience...
trent's comments on presentation and longevity is smacked on. i too was more interested in the likes of floyd and bowie and that sense of mystique. it's true that there isn't that much mystique these days. i'm like "man, i don't wanna know what you ate". i also appreciate the fact that having been a fan of NIN for more than 20 years and remain so as i'm just happy that the music trent has made is still incredible. it holds up and i can always put it on when i want to. plus, he never compromised nor let something like business or trends dictate what he can or can't do. something bon jovi needs to learn as they're no longer a band. it's just jon bon jovi running a business about what the music should be and what demographic they should go after as well as picking whatever producer that can help them. no wonder richie sambora left the band.
I once walked 2 hrs to my cousins house so he can order downward spiral from BMG . It was like those 10 CD for the price of one . Music was survival and you will seek it like water in a desert.
This entire interview just validated everything I thought about Trent Reznor, and it makes me love him so much more. I saw him in concert in 2006, and it was the best damn show I’ve ever been to- second only to David Gilmore. However, Trent and his music got me through some really rough times in my life.
"Rock" doesn't die out if u pass it on. Have shared with younger gen the best years in music's past. My music doesn't make me feel old it just confirms how quickly time goes by. True art is timeless. Trendy is not. Modern audio tech has come a long way-can appreciate music on another level. Bands created in 90s were and are some of the best. They were inspired by 70s music after all.
I was there and it was SICK. Ministy, New Order and NIN all played back to back with no overlap. I never would have imagined I would see Ministry & NIN share the same stage.
Trent is so wise. And it's so interesting seeing Atticus listening as well. I appreciate the insight and take here. The only thing I'll say is that as a fan, I am very interested in what artists meant / intended with their lyrics. I think we can still have that knowledge and still choose to interpret it in our own ways if it connects with us differently. A good example of this is that viral clip of x factor or something from years ago where a man sang Labryinth's Jealous (which is about a break-up) but he told the audience that he connects the lyrics to his best friend who died and is no longer with him. Sometimes knowing the artists' intent can help me make sense of lyrics that confuse me but I still feel free to interpret it how I want knowing that it's art. Also love that he threw in the Trump is an asshole part. Reminds me of Larry David - alienate yourselves.
I cherish a concept counter to most of what Trent is saying here. The concept that accuracy in perspective "fixes" all issues in life. If you understand the reality around you and have a realistic expectation of what reality should be, you can deal with anything and solve any problem. Is it healthy to view musicians as gods? Is it good to fail to achieve what you think you perceive in someone else, and then think worse of yourself, when you actually just don't see that other correctly? I think there's a lot of unnecessary pain in the darkness of pre-internet unawareness.
I like how Trent is so straightforward, he does speak openly, and I'm glad that he's made a good living to the point that he doesn't have to do anything he doesn't want. But I kind of wonder if he might try improv or something, because he often does keep it all his interviews on the down side... you can't be serious *all* the time. Maybe on his next tour he can open up with a round of stand-up :-)
I really appreciate how articulate Trent is. Also love how he gives Gary Numan so much credit as an influence. Also love that he references CREEM magazine.
I'm truly devastated that Trent doesn't want to tour anymore and I always wanted to see one of his shows with NiN especially. I understand entirely his point of view and how music industry has degenerated into well, what you see. NiN should've HEADLINED the show, but they were like a passenger it felt like I bet. The only reason I'd have went to that festival is to see NiN!
low key trent i havie a painting of you partially because my brother told me to get art for his apartment and hes had this big bowie clock forever and i was like whos someone i like, like that? so you did something right dude
I love that he said if it offends you that's alright, do your thing. I think more gaslighters and celebrities need to adopt that mentality. If you wanna take the red pill take it, if you wanna take the blue pill take it. I can't force and nore should I want to.
Reznor may be one of the most humble and down to earth artists in the industry. He seems to have gained a lot of wisdom over the years and it shows in interviews like this one
The thing is, I don't care about his political beliefs or if they fall in line with mine or not. I care that this dude wrote music that got me through the toughest times of my life. And his music never gets stale and keeps evolving and impacting me.
Yes! Go see both bands live if you get a chance. I went to the Stabbing Westward reunion show a month ago. They played in a small club, and I got to meet the band (again). The guys are awesome!

"I think rock bands are out of fashion generally, these days, but i don't give a shit."
Love Reznor.
Nathanael Howe he loves money
Quoted that as well! Lol!
Anthony Wags he gave ghosts I-IV out for free
Rock bands with guitars really don't seem to be the draw these days. Big cultural shift in music over the years.
He also gave 'The Slip' out for free as well. So shut the fuck up about him being greedy.
Trent reznor seems really down to earth, weathered, and very charming at this point in his career.
Weathered and boring indeed. I'm sure that's part of his "charm".

I dont think Trent realizes that he is one of the few rockstars who still make amazing albums to this day. And his albums have the same amount of mystique and agility that they did when he started.
Certainly one of the few to reinvent themselves so effectively, and the change being just as interesting as where he started
Absolutely agree.
...and knows the importance of making a great album
Why does Atticus always look like he wants to kill James Bond?
Sullen haggard Britishness
come come mr bond
LOOOOOOOOL
He works for Sebastian Gorka in his spare time >.>
Bond banged his girl 😏
What I assume Bowie ment to Trent, is what Trent means to me. What a genius.
jeommy kin this shithead thinks hes the next one in line. Nigga you aint connected to them
Or maybe he's just saying that Trent motivates him.
Ernesto, I don’t think that’s what he’s saying..
@@TryNSave but trent was a Bowie fan indeed
And you mean that to me.

Agreed! Well said!
very articulate man..my god!
This is a good show of 3 different ways to wear black.
Tony Vilaysack omg..that is hilarious. Thank you
edgy, classy n basic
Leather jacket villian suit and casual dark lol
Lmao great comment
The amount of crossed legs in this interview is impressive
LMAO :-D
made me lol
Seth Collazo I'm laying in bed watching this with my legs crossed
hevquip I’m sitting on the shutter watching this. Legs aren’t crossed, I think that would get messy.
hahahaha
4:34 Atticus wondering if he left the oven on
Trent's lyrics have gotten me trough my twenties and now into my thirties.....i am in debt to NIN, will love them no matter what they do, thank you.
Omg, I love this. Trent is like fine wine... better with age.
I agree!!!! I love his look now more than when he was younger
You should get out more sweetie. ;)

Trent's looking more and more like a leather Daddy.

Can't stop loving Trent. It's been 17 years and Nine Inch Nails is still my favorite band!
wise words :)

Loving NIN more and more as it evolves. Glad to hear it is not constrained by commercial considerations. Best part of interview... last statement! :)
Ross should let Trent talk more like damn dude
IKR like he just won’t shut up..
Honestly Solange, Frank Ocean and NIN are my favs of all time
I could listen to him talk about music all day. It just makes me feel happy.
Mad Respect for Trent, will FOREVER be one of my favorite artists period.
oh my god atticus' face when trent mentions dj kalhed is the funniest thing i've seen all week
1:06 that zipper opening & closing is so cute
I think he was checking to make sure it worked. Probably has David Bowie's ashes in there.
He snorts a little bit every month, it'll be gone soon
There There The zipper was probably digging into his side and he just repositioned it. Lol, im thinking to much into this.
what a mysterious artist 👨🎤
This is really one of the best comments I've ever read. Long live Bowie.
