- This video will show you everything you need to know about video SEO. Specifically, you’ll learn how to optimize your videos around UA-cam’s top 5 ranking factors.
In fact, these are the same five factors that I focus on for every video that I publish. They’re the main reason that my videos rank in the top 3 for keywords like “UA-cam SEO”, “keyword research”, “get more views on UA-cam” and more.
So what are these five UA-cam SEO ranking factors?
The first is called Total Watch Time. This is simply how many minutes of watch time your video has accumulated since you published it. The more Total Watch Time your video has the higher it will rank in the search results (in general).
Next up we have mastering the hook. This is simply making sure you hook your viewer in the first 15 seconds of your video (which is HUGE). I’ve found that -- once you get someone to watch the first 15 seconds -- you’ve pretty much hooked them for good. And in the video I show you how I use “The PPP Formula” to create intros that keep people engaged.
Our third video optimization ranking factor is making sure that your title is keyword optimized. This is pretty basic UA-cam SEO stuff, but it’s important to do on every video that you upload to your channel.
Once you’ve optimized your title, it’s time to optimize the video itself. As you’ll see, this is something that you’ll need to do before you shoot. Trying to optimize an old video for doesn’t work very well (trust me, I’ve tried it). Instead, you want to plan your keyword optimization well before you hit “record”. That way, your video SEO is good to go on day 1.
Finally, we have maximizing user engagement signals (likes, comments, subscribes etc.). This shows UA-cam that people are interacting with your video. As it turns out, videos with high levels of engagement rank higher in UA-cam search.
Last up, we have a bonus tip: optimize your video for CTR. This ranking factor is becoming more important for video SEO. And this is a trend that’s not likely to end anytime soon. After all, a high-CTR shows Google and UA-cam that your video is a great result for that search.
And towards the end of this video you’ll learn how to quickly boost your CTR.

This is the best explanation I've seen for ranking videos. I liked the fact that you've tested these methods and show proof. I'm going to test making a 10 min video however the challenge is to keep the viewer engaged.
Sounds good. You're 100% right: keeping someone on YT engaged for 5+ minutes isn't easy. But if you bring it with value and spice things up, it's doable.

Yes..the last couple of videos were around 6 minutes and they are doing well so far however it definitely takes more work..scripting, recording, editing

Hi Brian - great video and information. You are correct, when I dumped the "less than 10 minute" clause and simply started making videos as long as they needed to be, my watch time increased dramatically. My number one video is almost 30 minutes. And I'm not going to say no, that Google & UA-cam can listen and catalogue my videos, but I would still argue that putting in closed caption is important because if the search engines can listen to your videos, I suspect it's still in its infancy. And like you, I put a questions at the end of my videos and this technique too has increased the amount of interaction with my videos. The last part I would add is to do your homework on "Google Keyword Search" to locate what your audience wants. When I started making videos my audience wanted, and not what I thought was important, again, my watch time increased. Thanks for the great information, Cheers Rick

My most watched video is 36mins long, so this still seems to hold true in 2018. About they being able to listen to what ur saying. It might still be in its infancy, but its coming. For instance, when I first started. Like the very first video I uploaded got flagged with music copy right. so if they can listen to music, why can't they listen to keywords!? I'm sure they're already testing it out.

I have a question: does it matter how many words your "keyword" has? For example if I make a video about the movie a new hope: does "a new hope" as keyword work? I know this question may sound odd, but I really don't know.
Question: If I go back and redo some of my videos titles descriptions and thumbnails will it have a better chance at being ranked? or would i be better off uploading a fresh video?

Hi Brian. I luckily got the chance to watch this video while I'm having breakfast. This video sure is very helpful and informative. I'm a newcomer in UA-cam and the insights shared on this video makes me more inspired to do better on my future content.
At the moment, I'm happy with my thumbnails which can potentially result to a better click through rate. It's just that I'm more interested on what happens next and this video helped me answer those questions.
I love the idea of simply saying the important keywords and title on your actual video and this definitely makes sense.
At the moment, I experimented by adding subtitles on my latest video. I'm hoping I can also gain some tips from you on how or is it possible for a video to be recommended on other places around the globe to improve the number of people who can potentially watch my video and increase my watch time.
