The intro summed up Canadian politics perfectly.
"An out of date 70"s sitcom with bad actors."
that was maybe the best intro i've ever seen on a video...
The intro was great and I burst out laughing. This really is the election to give up strategic voting. I’m for Maxime Bernier and I don’t care if it throws my vote away. It wouldn’t have to if we abolished first past the post like we were bloody supposed to. If Maxime could promise that one policy, a ranked ballot system, then he could be on track to take many many more seats

If Singh weren't with the welfare party, Canadians would heavily consider him
Rambo Jon J Singh is one of them and therefore can’t be taken seriously. Everywhere he goes and talks it’s a circle jerk of thankyous and hugs and extreme respect for every single individual and it’s all so artificial. Andrew Scheer is much the same but he doesn’t have the cult following that will waste 20 minutes of the start of his press release. He’s just a creepy robot guy too. The state of these parties sickens me. For once I’d like someone who’s real

We need the rhinoceros party to make an ambitious return
I remember staying up late the one night during election time (while being a young student at primary school) in probably the late 1970's to see their short public commercial on the CBC. I think many of the young students in my class stayed up for that broadcast.
The Rhino Party is just lame boomers who think jokes about “repealing the laws of gravity” are cutting edge
AGENDA:
1979 campaign
Government:
The Queen of Canada would be seated in Buckingham, Quebec.[16]
Rather than awarding money as prizes in the lottery, the winners would be appointed to the Senate of Canada.[16]
Rather than patriate the constitution by bringing it to Canada, as proposed by Pierre Trudeau, the Rhinoceros Party pledged to bring Great Britain home and make it Canada's eleventh province.[17]
Energy:
Building one nuclear power plant per household, including monthly distributions of lead underwear to Canadians. Indoor lighting would then be provided by radioactive citizens.[18]
Burning all the standing barns in Canada to provide energy, under the slogan Burn a barn for Britain.[18]
Gender issues:
Alimony payments would go directly to the federal government, and responsibility for withholding those payments would fall upon the federal government.[18]
Men would be allowed to work as prostitutes, wet nurses, secretaries and receptionists.[18]
1984 campaign
Economy
The Rhinoceros Party pledged to eliminate small businesses, and replace them with very small businesses, having less than one employee.[19]
Candidate Graham Ashley, standing in Ottawa-Vanier, pledged to take Canada off the Gold Standard, and implement a Snow Standard, which would improve the economy until the summer.[20]
Public works
Candidate Stardust the Magician promised to put a roof on Olympic Stadium, using only a $25 million handkerchief.[21]
Other campaigns
Other platform promises of the Rhinoceros Party included:
Repealing the law of gravity[22][23]
Providing higher education by building taller schools[14][24]
Instituting English, French and illiteracy as Canada's three official languages[14]
Tearing down the Rocky Mountains so that Albertans could see the Pacific sunset[23]
Eliminating unemployment by abolishing Statistics Canada, thereby eliminating the bureaucrats that measure unemployment.[25]
Making Montreal the Venice of North America by damming the St. Lawrence River[26]
Abolishing the environment because it's too hard to keep clean and it takes up so much space[14]
Annexing the United States, which would take its place as the third territory in Canada's backyard (after the Yukon and the Northwest Territories-Nunavut did not yet exist), in order to eliminate foreign control of Canada's natural resources[27]
Ending crime by abolishing all laws[28]
To provide more parking in the Maritimes and to create the world's largest parking lot respectively, paving the Bay of Fundy and the province of Manitoba [14][23]
Turning Montreal's Saint Catherine Street into the world's longest bowling alley[14]
Amending Canada's Freedom of Information Act: "Nothing is free anymore; Canadians should have to pay for their information".[29]
Making the Canadian climate more temperate by tapping into the natural resource of hot air in Ottawa.[29]
Storing nuclear waste in the Senate: "After all, we've been storing political waste there for years".[29]
Adopting the British system of driving on the left; this was to be gradually phased in over five years with large trucks and tractors first, then buses, eventually including small cars, and bicycles and wheelchairs last.[16]
Selling the Senate of Canada at an antique auction in California[23][27]
Putting the national debt on Visa[30]
Declaring war on Belgium because a Belgian cartoon character, Tintin, killed a rhinoceros in one of the cartoons[24][31]
Offering to call off the proposed Belgium-Canada war if Belgium delivered a case of mussels and a case of Belgian beer to Rhinoceros "Hindquarters" in Montreal (the Belgian Embassy in Ottawa did, in fact, do this)[24][31]
Painting Canada's coastal sea limits in watercolour so that Canadian fish would know where they were at all times[26]
Banning guns and butter, since both kill[26]
Banning lousy Canadian winters[14]
Building a bridge spanning the country, from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland.[32]
Making the Trans-Canada Highway one way only.[32]
Changing Canada's currency to bubble gum, so it could be inflated or deflated at will.[33]
Donating a free rhinoceros to every aspiring artist in Canada[27]
Counting the Thousand Islands to see if the Americans have stolen any[12]
The Rhino Party also declared that, should they somehow actually win an election, they would immediately dissolve and force a second election: "We Rhinos think that elections are so much fun, we want to hold them all the time".[34] They also declared victory after one election, claiming all candidates were Rhinoceroses, whether they knew or acknowledged it: thick-skinned, short-sighted, mean-tempered, etc.
@@JJMcCullough well, they are presenting a guy named Maxime Bernier in the same county as PPC's Bernier just to steal some confused voters from him, so that makes them alright in my book!

Derek, they dont have a real economy and they suffer from an abysmal growth rate like 1 or 2 percent. Once i looked to market to canada and when i bought the list it only had 9 million households....i thought something was wrong, like they only provided 1 province. Nope, thats the whole damn country. What canada has really become is a nation of social workers.....the lack any other national brand and i think with the historical proof that socialism suffers from shrinking markets in a few years the 1st province will vote to leave Canada and become a state. After that the whole counrty of canada will dissolve. Remember that British set up the country and made the Indian treaty as a buffer to stop america expansion.....its why canada exists and since british powere has wained since ww1 to 0 today.....these only one thing left, become states.....it solves all there self made problems.

Not a fair or accurate portrayal of Bernier. Bernier's PPC has accomplished in one year what the Green Party took 35 years to accomplish: a candidate in every riding, and 3% in the national polls. In one EKOS poll, the PPC polled ahead of the NDP in Ontario. A fringe party with only niche support doesn't make that kind of splash in 12 months.
Bernier appeals to conservatives who see that the CPC no longer operates on conservative principles. Bernier also appeals to Liberal and even NDP voters who are fed up with the unprincipled pandering of Canada's mainstream parties. I myself voted NDP in the last federal election, and even voluinteered with my local NDP EDA. This year, I'm doing the same with the PPC, and I'm not the only one.
Canadian politics is changing, just as it's changing throughout Europe and the United States. Fewer and fewer voters are accepting that a bunch of focus-group-empty-promise politicians as leaders is just the way things are supposed to be. New parties and new personalities are exploding onto the scene throughout the west. Bernier's not likely to enjoy their same success due to Canada's notorious political apathy, but it's a mistake to underestimate the PPC nevertheless.
That's some shift from NDP to PPC, what caused it? If you don't mind my asking.
Same here. I voted NDP in the past.
PPC has my vote now.
I'm an NDP voter and considered voting ppc but I hate Trudeau so much I'm voting NDP because my ridding usually goes NDP and I want to keep it that way to give no more to the liberals in Quebec, the only thing I don't like about Bernie's is his climate change denial but love how he wants to end corporate welfare, also I want 250,000 immigrants or the same amount just all economic migrants and no more refugees cause there's a labour shortage where I'm from thats made worse by the Quebec nationalists cutting immigration
@@DLRS222 Same with me.

That "Say no to mass immigration" sign wasn't commissioned by the PPC -- it was funded by a supporter. Not that I don't agree with the sign, but that's something you should've noted when showing it.
Agreed
Why do you agree with mass immigration?
Kyle Bennett that’s a question for the liberals who were outraged by the sign and demanded they be taken down
I don't have a major stance on mass immigration however a poll showed that Canadians overestimate the amount of immigration coming into Canada and often largely overestimate the amount of refugees and immigrants with criminal backgrounds (About 0.3%). Use it as you will.

It’s my understanding that the Greens, in practice, are to the right of the NDP
The Canadian Greens don't represent other greens. In my home country, the Green Party of England and Wales is the furthest left political party in the House of Commons, and quite libertarian. In the rest of the world, the greens are about in the same place. The greens of England and Wales regularly get between about 2 and 4 seats each election.
BoraCM 39 same in Australia
@@BoraCM I think 2 to 4 seats is generous. Brighton Pavilion is the only safe Green Westminster seat in the entire country and the only one they've ever had. There's a few Greens in the devolved parliaments of Scotland and NI but those are separate parties from the EngWal Greens, although they are all affiliated.
Alex Wales I’ve just checked, and you’re right. They have only ever won 1 seat. I remember them winning something like 2-3 seats once. Maybe it was a different election in a different country, or an exit poll. After checking the GPEW, I checked the GPS and GPW to see if their seats added any to total something higher, but none of them won any seats ever.
This isn’t true, they’re the furthest left party. But the NDP has been claiming they’re crypto conservatives for years because they don’t want to lose left wing votes to them.
You know you’re down a rabbit hole when you’re watching politics for another country. Good work, sir, I’ve learned something I’ll probably never need but am thankful for nonetheless.

2JarAT2 It seems like nothing will change. The peoples party of Austria and Freedom party will have make another coalition but this time with a different FPO leadership.
@@ricardobarahona3939 You're probably right. I don't think the leadership is 'different', however.
@Cosmocat01Well that's not the reason I'm worried, but at least we agree on worrying!
I don't even know who to support in Austria. I dislike Kurz and hate FPÖ, their Social Democrats are just like German ones - centrist, their most left-wing party JETZT could potentially lose all their seats and NEOS is useless. Maybe their Green Party is ok, but I would need to research them more.
I always really enjoy your videos. Although I am left-wing/center-left I always find your videos are fair, informative and interesting. I really respect how you handle such a touchy subject because civility and honest discussion is sometimes hard to find when talking about politics. Whether you talk to the right or left they are equally bad about that. I don't often comment but I do always enjoy your videos and always look forward to the next one. You do a really great job breaking down Canadian politics fairly and the editing on this video was top notch.
@Simon Tide Way to sully a nice comment about someone appreciating the objective videos made by someone with differing political views. I hope you see the irony in critiquing a party for name calling when you're literally doing the same. Not to mention EVERYONE has said the blackface incident was racist, including Trudeau himself. Whether he is just paying lip service or not is another issue but you're willfully distorting the narrative to support your preconceived notions.
@Simon Tide Liberals ain't leftist, lmao. And I mean this in both the sense of the Liberal party and liberalism as an ideology.
@Simon Tide I mean you kinda just proved my point. Look how quickly you went into to insults. Honestly, I try and challenge my views so I can vote fairly and I keep up to date on the parties as best I can. The right and left are both equally likely to spread misinformation, and insult the other leader rather than talk about policy. It's kinda depressing truly. I vote based on policy and sometimes it's actually hard to find the information I'm looking for between all the slurr campaigns.
@Simon Tide Your projecting, I haven't said anything in defence of Trudeau, I only said you went quickly to insults, which you did and that all the parties enjoy smear campaigns. I haven't yet decided who I will vote for maybe Trudeau but more because I feel he might be a lesser evil than Scheer. Because honestly I'm not really a fan of any of the candidates. but I dislike Scheers policies more than Trudeau's
@Simon Tide I never said it was okay to call conservatives that, I have unlike you not thrown a single insult at any party leader or at you. So simmer down lol. As for you not liking left wing policies, thats fine thats why we have a lovely democratoc society, but I agree with left wing policies and would have voted for clinton personally.

For question 2, he most likely would support Trump since far-left Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders are starting to get more popular than Joe Biden. But, it’s strange how the policies of the Conservative Party of Canada would be closer to the moderate American Democrats (like Biden or Obama) rather than the Republicans.

When Andrew Scheer was an MP here in SK, my Mom met and dealt with him several times because she was a local town councillor. One time she had to leave some forum event early and she stood up to leave during Andrew talking, and he stopped whatever he was saying and said to everyone “This is why we don’t put women in parliament, they’ll have to go home early to put their kids to bed.” Apparently several women got up to leave. It's so easy for the smaller parties to say they've never compromised when they've never actually had to pass legislation...
Hard to gain votes when everyone only votes Liberal or Conservative on the basis of strategic voting and not voting on values or beliefs.
Canada has a system that forces people to vote against who they DONT want to win instead of voting for who they do.
If Canada had a proportional representation voting system, the Greens would see an incredible increase in votes. Same with other smaller parties, but the Greens the most.
@@CANADAWOOOOOOOOO This is such a myth. Strategic voting is absolutely NOT the reason for the 2 party lock, it's the opposite. Strategic voting is a reaction to the 2 party lock caused by a huge number of lifelong voters for both the Cons and Libs. The NDP and Greens both have lifelong voters, but they're a tiny minority of urban aging hippies and woke yuppies.
The only number of votes that can swing between parties leading to win or loss are besides those millions of fixed votes. There are too many to make an NDP government feasible during this decade. Don't even talk about a Green party government lmao
@@CANADAWOOOOOOOOO unless we get significant election reform of course, which might be part of the next Liberal term *knocking on wood*
@@ReasonableRadio It's not a myth. There is only one party for conservative people, the conservative party.
There are 3 parties for left wing people. Depending on the riding, people will vote for a party they dont support to prevent another from winning, usually the conservatives.
Some ridings it's a close race between NDP and Conservative, so people support the Greens vote NDP to keep the conservatives out.
It's not a myth, it's a proven fact about our broken electoral system.
Why do you think over 70% of Canadians support getting rid of it? Why do you think Trudeau backed out on his promise for it? cuz he got into power and knows people strategically vote liberal. Is it really surprising to you that Trudeau doesn't keep any of his promises? He knows people will vote for him anyway cuz he knows that everyone knows the conservatives are worse.
Saying Canadians are "fixed voters" is a myth. Well, maybe true for the cons because they have no other option. But left wing Canadians frequently flip between Liberals, NDP, and Green.
I live on Vancouver Island where Greens have the most support. We are not hippies or "woke yuppies" whatever that means. We are people sick of the same two corrupt parties always being in power. We want real change and the Greens are the best to do that. Watch out this election, BC and the maritime provinces have a #GreenWave coming
@@ReasonableRadio Ha, Trudeau backed out on electoral reform the second he got into power. He was never going to do. He benefits too much from strategic voting in fear of vote splitting.
We need to vote Green to implement a proper voting system. 40% of the vote should never equal 100% of the power. This corruption needs to end.

Yeah, I think that comes down more to them seeing Trudeau as the best chance to keep the Conservatives out of power and them thinking Scheer is exactly like Doug Ford. It's a close election so you're going to see a lot more strategic voting going on, which isn't good for the NDP, Greens or People's Party.

The reason why jagmeet singh isnt popular in quebec is because we voted for a law on the “laïcité” which restricts people from wearing religious symbols, clothes etc in certain public spaces.
