This video, just as many others on your channel, is a life saver. Running into issues with the tach cable myself. Thanks Ken!

Saturday morning coffee and Ken's Garage. Too bad I am at the in-laws this weekend. ☹ Great video on RZ carbs and their quirks. Brought back memories of my own adventures with Dyno Jet kits and jetting. Cable routing for the tach and the throttle are an adventure. The throttle Y cable needs to located carefully to keep the Y junction operating smoothly. The Yamaha service manual gives you a line art drawing of how they use the coolant lines to locate the throttle cable. Surprisingly, it works, help by an odd zip tie or two.😊 The tach cable routing is fun, as you discovered. The 49 state RZ has a cable clip on top of the carbs for the tach cable. Not sure if the NC2 has it. Tha tach is a pain.
I too started with the 420 main Jets as suggested by Toomey and friends. I found that the 420's were very gas wet. Moved to 400's which were drier, but still quite rich. Dropped to the 380's, they are sharper revving and just a tiny bit rich. Went to 360's, very sharp, right on the edge of lean. I ended up back at 380's to avoid nasty surprises. Jetting is a process, just work your way through it. 😊 Fyi, my base elevation is 500', riding area is down to 100' up to 1,200', average humidity 50%.
    Enjoy the tinkering with jetting.

Yeah, enjoy tinkering with jetting. I hate jetting. But it's a necessary evil on these things. Thanks for all the tips! I have a feeling I will end up with main jets somewhere around where you are. Nearly identical elevation as you except my weekend ride up to the Lick Observatory gets up to 4200 feet. These 420s seem huge but best to start there and work my way down. I'm on 360s on the Thrasher bike but can't really compare with that because it is running VM30's. Thanks again for the feedback.

@@KensGarage1 You are right on the money. The jetting process is a necessary evil with these bikes, no shortcuts. Gotta do the testing progression with jet sizes. At least using the RD350 y boot and filter is easier for jetting than the stock RZ350 air box. The intake roar is noisier, and it does make the jetting a little more challenging, but once dialed in, it is worth it. The mid range to top end rev out is definitely more potent on the trusty old butt dyno! 🤣
You are making me jealous re your ride up to the observatory! That road is a dream on an RZ. I never get tired of watching your videos of those rides. Perfect "bench riding" during the winter for me. Thanks for sharing.

Ken... THANK YOU!!! You have saved me LOTS of hassle!! My bike is comming along nice... did a full resto like seals, brakes, carbs pistons etc...Got her running.. 100 PSI compression seems low with stock head and squish... still need to seat the rings. I got the wrong needle seats from Amazon... they look to be for a banshee... ordered the correct ones from Yamaha. I also have the dynojet kit... will 2x check the clip position and that the black spacer is out.. pretty sure it is. I also have the Y pod filter with KNN and aftermarket pipes with 420's inside. She ran good but would not come on the pipe...I also had the bowls mixed!!! Embarrasing! Still ran ok that way but not on top. I will try it out with the correct parts and see how she goes!! Think my compression is too low? New main seals and pistons. The stock bores looked nice with only 8K miles on them.. I just did a hone job and new Vertex pistons... no slap at all nice and tight. It also smokes A LOT! Need some more burn time to see if it clears up. Thanks for all the videos you have helped SO MUCH KEN!!

You are welcome. As long as I've been messing around with these bikes I have never done a compression test on one. So unsure if your 100 PSI is low. I hope you have been able to get it to run better.

Hi one question did you had good results running the cards on the rz350 without the black spacer or you need to keep the black spacer, I will appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance

Sorry, don't have time to review the video ATM. Whatever I did in there the carbs work perfect. This engine runs as good or better than any of my RZ's. Hope that helps.
