  • Fanatec SSQ H pattern shifter badly registering gear repair.
My Fanatec SSQ H Pattern became flakey registering shifts in 2,4 and 6 gears (others not ideal but these were worst). After re-calibration i still got no better results so quickly overview how i fixed the accuracy of my shifter.
    Enjoy!

my issue is going from 3rd to 4th, it will register randomly as 2nd gear, even tho I'm in the 4th gear gate. It's so random that it catches me off guard and I end up blowing the motor... I did a test and after 50 times in a row going from 1st, 2nd, 3rd to 4th and the back to 1st and repeating out of 50 times it did it once where it registered 2nd gear despite being in 4th gear gate...

This is exactly the same problem I have. It’s rare, but common enough to completely destroy my races.

The same issue here in SQ 1.5, after 1 year usage.

Lucas Tano Are you thinking to do this fix? Pretty disappointed after having mine for 1.5 years as well. It gets worse every time I use it. Unacceptable for a $200+ item. I believe friends slamming the gears didn’t help either.

hey bud sounds like your potentiometer is going bad. This was happening to me a couple months back so i just started using sequential mode... A few days ago i tried giving the h pattern mode a shot, now the gears are super mixed up like 1st is reverse and 2nd is 6th and it alternates. Im awaiting fanatecs response

@@gerritbatesisonline good luck. I’ve been waiting over year for there response to the same inquiry. They shipped a bunch of defective units and have no fix.

This damn shifter. Bought mine, had to send it back with in a month for not registering gears correctly. Get it back it works great for about 6 months then it starts doing it again. Contact Fanatic and get told it’s an EMI issue and that I need to ground the shifter.
Never really figured it out as Fanatec couldn’t really tell me how to ground it. Another 8 months goes by and the shifter works for a few days at a time then has issues. Contact Fanatec again and get told to ground the shifter to a radiator style heater which I don’t have.
I should have believed all the complaints about this shifter over the years. I just wish someone could make a beefy affordable H-Pattern better then the Fanatec and Thrustmaster. I’d spend $500 if there was something.

Always blaming the customer, saying is user error when its really a BIG design flaw. Esp for $200+

I didn't do it exactly like the video, but this still worked for me. I couldn't get the connectors off. So I blew it out and didn't even lube it. There was already so much goo in there. I think just jiggling the connectors around is what did it. Who knows, but it is working like a charm now. Thanks!!!

I'm not being a smart arse here but wouldn't wd40 wash the grease away for long term use grease would be better i would of thought, , just a thought

Today marks 12 months since i did this maintenance and the unit has worked flawlessly since then so arguably this is better than the factory grease? Good question though - fairly sure WD40 is oil based (Fish oil?) stands for Water Displacement (forget what 40 means i read it on wiki or something aaaages ago) as such it makes a great lubricant for squeaky doors etc so for me i had no concerns using as it still acts as a lubricant much like the grease so i had no drama using it..

Mine shift gears randomly when I touch the cable near the wheel or shifter. Like the connectors aren’t actually firm enough. Thinking about trying a new cable and then this. I rarely get it not registering gears, I regularly get it registering incorrect gears. Have calibrated it’s countless times. Doing my head in. Trying to race and 4th quite often registers as 2nd so I am forever pulling 3rd into 2nd or worse is compression lockup’s when coming down at high speed from 5th to 2nd. About ready to spit the dummy

One on the video is the sq 1.5 however I did the same with the 1.0 and worked perfectly

    • @d.o.5238
      @d.o.5238 7 років тому

I'm pretty sure it is 1.0 because 1.5 has 4 color wires and a hall sensor to detect odd/even row of gears selected instead of 3-wire flat cable and a couple of micro-switches featured in your video

Apparently the shifter has a hole in the side of the case to stick the allen wrench through without disassembling ...... Watch this Video and see the adjustment ua-cam.com/video/lXS1BLgFQJ4/v-deo.html
