Imagine Channel 4 showing a debate on deconstruction now. I like the ads in the run-up too. What might pseudo-intellectual students want to spend money on? Answer: Vitamins, Tea and a Whitney Houston album from Our Price.

A lot of things have improved out of sight since the 80s. But channel 4 isn't one of them. They used to have genuinely high minded, often quite novel programmes. But now a lot of it really is pretty shoddy.
