  • Welcome or welcome back! ❤️
    Here's another week in my life as a PhD candidate studying rhetoric & composition at IUB! I'm writing my dissertation about embodiment, vlogs, & feminism, and I think out loud (for quite a bit of this vlog...) about my ideas, especially as they are inspired by new things I'm reading. I also share some grocery hauls and chat about balancing teaching & researching with daily life.

    I just want to say thank you for sharing reflections on your reading! I'm chipping away at my master's thesis but am really struggling to sit down, untangle my thoughts and get them on the page - hearing your ideas unfold was just what I needed. I'm writing on embodied research in the context of digitised archival material, and before I knew it your thinking about tangential concepts had me scribbling away unpicking some of my own ideas. It's quite a vulnerable thing to share your thought processes, so I just wanted to let you know it was really appreciated!

    As a Women Gender Studies and Sociology Dual-Major Undergrad, I just want to say I really appreciate hearing about your dissertation and how you're using Feminist Methods in your writing. I think autoenthography is really powerful in any writing but especially in your writing as essentially you're creating a new subfield!

    when you were talking about the mirror metaphor, it brought something to mind: Heidegger's (philosophical) concept of concealing. To him, being itself is a phenomenon which simultaneously conceals (hides) and unconceals (reveals) itself. You do not get revealing without concealing. This thought is also based on a Heraclitus fragment that says something like "Natures loves to hide." I think this idea applies quite well to what you were talking about.

    I'm still pretty new to your channel and appreciate the glimpse into PhD life! I'm waiting for master's program decisions at the moment but honestly considering waiting another cycle and giving doctoral applications a stab in the fall - I'm interested in critical theory and its applications to education/social science research, as well as intergenerational experiences relating to Massive Resistance to school desegregation and integration (still not positive which avenue I'd take with future research, or how/if I want to combine those two interests). Maybe you've addressed this in other videos, but I'd love to see how you organize your research (things you want to read, what you've already read, how you decide what to read next, how you take note of the most important information you learn when reading) and any tips and tricks in that department :)

      Thank you so much for supporting my channel! Waiting on grad school app decisions is so, so stressful. But those research interests sound fascinating!
      Pretty timely that you bring this up for a video idea! I am currently planning a sit down chat about how I organize my writing, including what to read and how I take notes!

    Have you heard of "slice of life" animes/mangas? It's a popular genre in Japan and your vlogs always make me think about the genre and how it relates to vlogs. I love hearing about your research and writing!!

      @@SarahFischerVlogs did you need to get a state teaching certification to teach as a professor?

    • @SarahFischerVlogs
      @SarahFischerVlogs  4 місяці тому

      @rkswithAleydi I'm sure each university is different, but in general, no. There is no specific exam you must pass like when teaching K12. The PhD is the certification!
