Introduction to Travel Photography with Mark Offenbacher

Join us for our "Introduction to Travel Photography" event featuring Freebird Club member Mark Offenbacher.
Mark was born in Hollywood, California, and grew up in the citrus groves of the San Fernando Valley, 30 miles northwest of Los Angeles. In 1980, he moved to Oregon with his then-wife and three boys. Now, Mark is single, semi-retired, and living in Central Oregon, just north of Bend and a heart's breath away from Smith Rock State Park.
He spent the first half of his working career in the computer industry as a computer programmer, operator, and data center manager. Since leaving that industry in the mid-90s, Mark has exercised his entrepreneurial side, owning several different businesses and having a short stint as a flight attendant.
Mark's interest in photography started in the late 60s with standard film-based cameras, which led him into home-based photo processing. A nature lover who enjoys the outdoors, Mark moved to Oregon, which has grounded his photography in nature. Over the years, as he traveled more, he came to enjoy capturing urban landscapes. Whether it's a winding river or a towering 16th-century church, Mark's goal is always to capture the essence of what he's seeing and feeling at that time. He believes that a great photograph invites the viewer into the scene and inspires the thought, "I want to go there."
