- My backpacking water filtration system (as of now)....still trying to find the right balance for my needs, but this set up looks very promising. It's simple, great size and weight, and also versatile in the ways it can be used.

Just back from a medical mission to Haiti. While there, I used a Sawyer mini filter and a home made gravity filter system. I added an in-line carbon fiber filter for improved water taste. We had a 32 person team in the field for 1 week. The system provided water to everyone for 7 days with NO diarrhea or waterborne illness. 1 person had heat exhaustion from not drinking enough in the heat (95-105F). I backwashed the filter every day and was amazed at the crap that came out each time. At one point I saw mosquito larvae in the dirty water bag (taken from rainwater collected in an orphanage cisterne) before filtering. This filter is GREAT! I used it in the Philippines after Typhoon Yolanda last year also. no illness on either trip. I can't say enough about it. If you're worried about viruses, boil your water!
Paul Schonbrun You stole water from an orphanage??? Just kidding. Thank you for your humanitarian work, you're a hero.
Useful demo - seals my decision to buy one for some upcoming wild camping. Thanks, Mike
I'm hearing a lot of good things about these mini's. I'm currently using the the way inline filter. Works pretty good. Thanks for the demo.
I too have been using the 3 way inline filter...and I like it ...but this is so much easier to deal with w/o the hoses etc. yet it can be used inline as well...thanks for watching!
I use the mini all the time ( love it ) but filling the bag was a real pain. Your scoop idea was great, I'm going to cut one up and throw it in my pack today. Thanks.
ive got the sawyer squeeze but I wish I also had the mini for sure. thanks for the review
Nice video. I like your setup.
If you have a flowing current its easy to fill. I only use a scoop for still water.
Great video man!
Just seen that the cnoc 2019 version may be a good replacement for the bag?
How do you use it for the first time? Do you have to run the water through once before yiu use it like fhe carbon filter pitchers?
Where did you get that carry case from? Ive hunted high and low, helpful review too thx
Hey Ray- The case is from a company called Equinox...I believe it's called a "marsupial pouch". Google equinoxltd.com...should have what ya need. Take care!
So u cut a platypus res in half that is 4 x better quality than the cheap sawyer bag that being said u could have used the the proper half of the platypus with the As a funnel in the stream and make your life even easier my 3 cents
Yep, the Platy "scoop" was an old 1L bag. It froze and the spout ripped off at the threads when I tried to open it.(4× durability....not so sure) As for not using the funnel end, that would work well for moving water with flow. The bottom (closed) half of the bag allows to dip into or extract water from a small or non moving source. I do agree, Sawyer bags are junk.
I can already see that water pouch will be a big issue to fill with water... Go get yourself a Life straw bottle. It is a lot easier to fill and drink from.
Had a Life Straw once,....once. Worked for about 10 sips of water & then clogged up. Also, they don't filter anywhere close to the effectiveness of the Sawyers. Thanks, but nope.....Sawyer mini is totally worth it.
