TERRIBLE Doesn’t Even Describe This Roller Coaster

- Cedar Point is home to many outstanding roller coasters, some considered the best in the world. However, one ride stands out for all the wrong reasons. In this video, I discuss what makes it the worst ride in the park and one of the worst roller coasters I’ve ever experienced.

Rode it in Oct this year and I didn't think it was rough at all. Tons of ejector air time though. By comparison it's not smooth like millennium or maverick and matches it's era of roughness when it came out. It's a fav of mine
Hmmm i don't mind rough coasters (i even still ride the prototype SLC) and i did this one in august and it was as bad as he was describing it was even worse then i rembembered from a year earlier. It does have tons of airtime So if they retrack it and put new cars on it that would be nice as it is now they can just pull it down.
Half think any given coaster is too weak, the other half say it’s too intense. Coaster peeps can never agree.
Nope we can't but i can agree with everything he is saying about this coaster.
@@arturobianco848me too
I remember my first ride on Magnum back in 1989. I believe the first words out of my mouth were "It's so smooth!" It's still pretty much my main go-to at Cedar Point, mainly for the thrill-to-wait ratio. I don't find it to be rough (for a roller coaster) but I do avoid wheel seats (including car 1) ...and if I would have watched this video back in 1989 I would have had to ask, "What's this dial-up he keeps talking about?" We had an Apple IIe back then at home and The Ohio State University had a computer lab on the third floor of Baker Hall ( I think) that had smaller Apple Macintoshes, complete with a wired mouse and a 3.5 inch floppy drive to save your files, but no internet, not even dial-up.
I would have loved to ride it back then but i rode it for the first time 2 years ago and without the hystory ist just a piece of worn junk. They should either do a full retrack/rebuild or put it out of its misery.
If you're running out of video ideas, why not upload the top 10 worst roller coasters you've ever ridden?
balls, spine, balls, spine all the way through the return trip. That's what I get for walking right into the station without needing Fastlane😢
If you tighten the seat belt on Magnum, the ride isn't as rough! Then again, I'll admit as a huge fan of Magnum, the ride is not for everybody!
b&m used computer technology to design their coasters, whereas arrow went the old fashioned way with their rides, hence why b&ms are generally smoother than arrow rides
I used to hate Magnum, then I learned how to tame and enjoy it for what it is. Nowadays I love laughing my brains out in pain during the finale in row 3 lol. Gotten much more pain on other coasters, like Canada’s Wonderland’s four pain machines and others.
Mean Streak is still the worst ride I’ve ever ridden… but now that it’s gone, Magnum is now the worst coaster at CP 😂
Corkscrew, Minetrain and maybe even Blue Streak would be worst in my book.... at least Magnum has fun with the pain.
You’re weak. You can’t handle the airtime. 6 year old me can handle it better than you
I've been on that coaster SO many times. I'm 55, and have back issues myself. But I've never had issues with it, other than a little bit of stuff ripped out of my pockets. Totally my fault. LOL. I don't get the complaints about it. It's so much fun. Too bad some people just can't handle it.
I don't hate it, but I don't exactly love it either. I always get several rides on it every trip, not because I love it, but because the line is always so short and it's something to do.
I think you just had a really unfortunate experience. I know it's been a few years since I last rode Magnum, but I never recall it being rough enough to cause severe back pain.
No. He's right, it will destroy you. It's rough and awful.
It's the ideal coaster scenario for someone who enjoys it. It feels like having an ace up my sleeve.
Magnum is perfect in it's jankiness. It should never be removed!
Magnum is my favorite ride at Cedar Point. The airtime is legendary, never gets old unlike Steve, and isn’t rough to the point where it is unenjoyable. I’ve ridden it hundreds of times and started riding it a 6 years old and never felt it was too rough. If you want a smoother ride, ride 16 or 17. If you aren’t weak and want the craziest ride, ride row 3. It is janky and rough enough to make the ride better while also keeping the weak people out. I rode this without getting off in row 3 twelve times in a row. Because of its aggressiveness and short line, I enjoy it the most and really appreciate that it is at my home park. I don’t get why people dislike it. There’s the first 3 rows for people that want a crazy ride and 16 or 17 for the weak and for people with a bad back. Only true enthusiasts like rides like this rather than perfectly smooth and boring rides like fury
Magnum needs some major retracking and additional padding on its trains
I rode it last year in the magic seat…..
*I CAN STILL FEEL DA PAIN*
I hate you magnum
My dad also hated it
I had high expectations so that’s why it’s next to if not below my ranking of the other pain coaster
I rode magnum for the first time in the magic seat 2022. LOVED IT! It wasn't crowded, so I rode it 13 more times before a real line formed. I would say it's not rough, but rather has janky, managable transitions.
I do kind of agree with you. I'm able to manage Magnum without it causing me pain, but it's only because of how I brace for the transitions & airtime. But even still, I have gotten some very bad rides on it that I did not like, including on my last visit, when Magnum consistently had an hour line all the time. I couldn't believe that its line was as long as much better rides at the park, at a time when Magnum was running terrible. But I've had a couple visits where it was running much better, and its line was short then.
If magnum is the roughest coaster you’ve ridden you need to ride more coasters
Try it in row 16 or 17 not 18 if you can’t handle row 3. It will be much easier and smoother on you. It’s my favorite ride at CP. I love the crazy airtime, transitions, and it’s my most ridden coaster. I’ve been riding it since I was 6, so I don’t get why people find it painful. My dad with a bad back rides it and says it’s not that bad.
Magnum XL200 is either too tame or too intense, never any middle ground.
Never rode MagnumXL200, the most "pain" (if you can even call it that; I am pain-tolerant) I had on a rollercoaster is on The Boss at Six Flags St Louis. And that is a rough wooden coaster that needs RMC. It doesn't mean that The Boss isn't fun though.
Did the boss this year and yes it could use an RMC treatment but for me it is the other way around i still had fun on the boss i never had a nice ride on this one.
@ I forgot to mention that I did have fun on it.
That first half before the finale is so boring. I got no floater on those 2 hills before the turn around
I've honestly had pretty good rides on Maggie the last 3 years. Before 2020 tho it was getting very rough. I agree that the redesigning of the restraints would absolutely make it a million times better.
Ooooh as a big Big One fan I’m itching to fly across the pond to get on its older brother, but I don’t think I’ll ever get to Cedar Point ☹️. I don’t mind a raucous ride.
B&Ms first coasters were nowt quite right out of the gate, they based the design for their coasters using everything they had learned at Giovanola so they already had the experience and the know how whenm they started their own company - And did you ever get to experience Desperado? Lets just say Desperado makes one appreciate Magnum
Collossus thorpe park tried to kill me and I can usually ride anything
Magnum is absolute garbage and should be scrap metal. That roller coaster beats the crap out of you and nothing about it is enjoyable. I’m glad you made this video. This thing needs replaced with something way more modern and smooth. Wouldn’t be sad to see it go.
Arrow's shortcomings can't be blamed on the technology of the day. You're right about B&M, but don't forget Schwarzkopf was making smooth, forceful coasters throughout the 1980s. The design and engineering in those rides really highlights how far behind Arrow and Vekoma were.
Magnum isn't great by modern standards, but my only pain from a ride on it is my thighs after the ejector air bunny hills at the end from the lap-bar. The coaster at Cedar Point that I get the most pain from is Gemini during the final helix. The last time I went on that ride the crunch I heard coming from my spine SCARED ME. I had to sit for a few minutes afterward.
Yeah there was some novelty to it at a point in time, and I’m talking some 20 years ago but it’s not aged well as a ride and honestly it is a rough ride especially towards the end dear god… I think your criticism is valid. People enjoy it still for the nostalgia and it’s rough but I still like the first drop but yeah they should do something with it because it’s only getting older ( if they can do it to blue streak they can do it for magnum )
As someone without a hystory at this park just went there for the first time 3 years ago i can certainely say for me they can take it down. Or do a complete retrack/rebuild. Because of the thouasand coasters i have ridden this one is in my bottom 100 i rather ride a wacky worm then this thing.
@ they’re not gonna do that just cause a few snowflakes can’t handle a bumpy ride 😂🤣
@@xxjayxx517 Well they should cause i can handle a bumpy ride. This one just hurts a bit to much. Look the layout is good maybe if they put better trains on it with a littlemore padding that would improve it enough that fun part isn't over shadowed by the hurt part. I regulairly ride the firstbuild SLC en its pretty bad but for one or 2 rides its still more fun then its painfull.
“Terrible doesn’t even begin to describe this coaster”… because it’s terrific on so many levels!
you HAVE to grab the seat in front of you and pull your back off.
Arrow didn't start using computers to design coasters until Tennessee Tornado. that's why B&M pretty much ate Arrow's lunch
Every point you made are the things that make it my #2 overall out of 325 coasters. It feels like death which is why it’s perfection
Yea it’s not a good coaster. Airtime hills shouldn’t be pointy at the top😂. I imagine it was decent when it came out but it’s far too rough now. I go to Cedar Point over 20 times per season so I like to think I know a good coaster
one thing you can do to make your ride a little smoother is make sure you don't ride on a wheel seat
Hey which one is smoother steel force or the Magnum
Steel force by a mile
5:55 i heard that >:(
I feel like Magnum XL 200 is probably the most polarizing roller coaster of all time
I’ve never seen such a 50/50 split on one roller coaster until Magnum enters the chat
It’s amazing how many people love it and how many people hate it.
I like Magnum a lot but I don’t hate it
Sorry you’ve had some rough and painful rides
We all have that one iconic ride everyone seems to love, but you hate. Mine is the smiler at alton towers. It is rough and the forces don't do anything for me
For me it's Pantheon. Ok I don't hate it, but it's super overrated imo
@@JeremyHale141 Yeah i did pantheon last year and i don't get the hype about it. Don't get me wrong its a nice coaster but thats it, its a nice coaster. If i ever would really rank everycoaster i have done i'm not even sure if it will end up in my top 50.
I rode Magnum with a friend who insisted on front row. It was jackhammer city. 😖😖😖 Hersheypark vastly improved Skyrush with the new restraints. Why can't Cedar Point make an effort to improve Magnum 🤔🤔🤔
I never rode the OG thighcrush but the new restraints are still bad I think. Hurt me a lot more then Magnum ever has. El Toro also hurt a lot...
I don't like Magnum. I find it to be unbearably rough. If it was butter smooth, I would probably like it
Butter smooth rides are boring. It isn’t even bad. I’ve been riding it since I was 6. But if you are weak and want a more smooth tame ride, try 16 or 17. Row 3 is my favorite though
@@BrandonMancuso-p8mbutter smooth boring? Why don’t you ask RMC about that.
@ okay you have a point. Rmc’s are an exception. Most rides that focus on smooth transitions and smooth elements tend to be not very aggressive and just are mid to me. That’s why Fury isn’t even in my top 30. It’s super smooth, not too forceful, not too snappy, just mid. Rattles on rides make the ride feel more aggressive to me, except B&M coasters. For example, mystic timbers or the beast would not feel nearly as aggressive without the wood coaster rattle. Again, RMC’s are an exception. An RMC just needs to be wild and relentless like Wildcats Revenge and no slow or dull spots like steel vengeance
@@BrandonMancuso-p8m I did it in row 16 or 17 and this thing is still over its holding date in those rows. Now a lot of the elements are fun but they end with a crush that just takes away all the fun for me. And a park close by my home (about an hour and a half away) still has the prototype SLC wich i still ride (ok only once or twice per visit).
I like agressive to i don't mind the lapbars on it yes they aren't great but its the pain to my spine i can't handle i just don't enjoy not being able to walk after a ride.
@ I didn’t know you have a more sensitive spine. I definitely get why you don’t like it now. My dad had a bad back as well. He likes it, but can only do it once, until he had surgery that fixed his back. Also, not too many elements hit that hard in 16 or 17. They are mainly the smooth rows. The first 3 rows especially row 3 have the best forces. You probably won’t like it though because of your back. I don’t have any pain issues and did it 12 times without getting off in row 3 and I was fine. You’re right though, magnum is rough on people’s backs. Most people just over exaggerate it though. Because there is no pain for me, it’s my number 1 in the park
I absolutly love your channel
Never had lab bar issues on this coaster, but I have a gut that stops the lap bar.. maybe get fatter?
I loved this coaster. It was really fun and it didn't hurt me at all.
Seriously, you're riding a coaster with a bad back? You know your advised not to do that.
No wait times? It's a high volume coaster. It was built for big crowds. There were several coasters that had next to no wait when I visited the park.
Coasters also get rougher as they age unless the park replaces worn out sections of track. At the end of their life parks don't do much maintenance to the track. They may be getting ready to sunset the coaster.
I agree with every complaint. There's a reason Arrow isn't around anymore. They refused to innovate!
Actually they tried to innovate but they went out of business soon after
@@George_bonnaire technically their innovation put them out of business trying to build X2. Gotta ride Tennessee Tornado to see what their computer aided coasters would have been like.
@@supremefan Ill be riding that in a few months for the first time. I cant wait.
@@Spike-sk7ql Have fun over there i can tell you its a lot better then this piece of garbadge.
You should do weird feelings I have one I rode Hell Cat my first time in 2022 and the helix made my skull or brain bounce
Thumbs down
I liked it when it first came out and when I was young but now it's just an upscale car wreck! Those last small hills before the end are PURE TORTURE!!
5:55 out of context 😂
I rode that when it was new, and it was smooth as butter.
It’s not that bad, that’s coming from someone who used to hate it. I love it nowadays
Magnum XL2Painful!!!
I wish they could retrack this. But on the same hand, the imperfections make it what it is.
Have you ridden it in row 17? I rode it 15 times in a single day throughout the train, and I thought row 17 was the most comfortable row by a mile. It was bumpy there, but by no means uncomfortable. Meanwhile, the front row was too much, and this is coming from a magnum fan.
At most I got a headache that was on the old Wildcat at Hersheypark
It use to be great but after years of wear and tear, it has become almost unrideable. It needs a Vekoma retrack and new trains....like Loch Ness at Bush Gardens Virginia
Magnum is the worst coaster in the park it’s unbearably rough and I think it needs to be removed or retracked desperately
Why would you say that when Corkscrew is right there 😂
@ don’t worry corkscrew is next in line
@@koasterlover1045 Corkscrew is number 2 on that list for me but at least it isn't as painfull. Nr 3 is geminine not that one is painfull or really rough just boring.
I respect your opinion, and thank you for keeping the line short.
@ enjoy having your back broken
Thought I liked this channel, guess not. Oh well.
magnum is terrible without even regarding the roughness. Its just not a good coaster. Its a legend, its iconic, but if it wasnt at Cedar Point it wouldn't have so many apologists lol.
doing a little re-tracking with some re-profiling would got a long way while not costing as much as replacing the coaster.
I remember it being very smooth in my 21 visits
It's never a wait for that awful ride. It's ALWAYS a Walk on and they can remove it with minimal ramifications. It's terrible. F Magnum. Knock it down. I don't respect it and hope it gets removed.
Always? Had two full bullpens in the queue line when I last went. But they were thankfully running all three trains so if was only like 20 mins.
There wouldn't be bigger rides at CP if Magnum didn't exist, so take that zero respect as you will.
Yeah, Magnum sucks. Chance Rides needs to come in and re-track it and modernize it.
Bad coaster is crazy, first hill is a w, lots of airtime. Is your favorite in the park gatekeeper?
I’m with you! Never understood how some rank it so high! 🙄🤘
They need to put new trains like steel dragon has or the Vegas coaster has.
I love Magnum, it is my second favorite at CP. I couldn't marathon it though.
Somebody's with me
the enthousiast are nuts i don't have the history with park but for me the sooner they get rid of it the better its is this is the worst coaster in the park and not because the other coasters are so good but just that thing is just so bad. It might have been a great coaster once but its old warn and should be put out off its miserey (or be completly rebuild like they did with Python in Efteling)
It’s one of my fav rides there 😔
alright. hear me out. Vekoma re-track with modern Vekoma trains like what's going on Siren's Curse. don't change the layout
They probable need to smooth some thing out but there is nothing wrong with the basic layout.
What a wimp.
Hey Great American Coasters Demo Permit's Have Been Filed for Kingda Ka and Zumanjaro
I'll agree 1000%...I hate magnum for the same reason..I go to the park about 40x times a season and ride it 2x a yr. The magic seat car 1 row 3 is insane, the ejector airtime hurts but is worth 1 ride a yr. I was literally standing up ,crazy ride...The park needs to reprofile 1st drop as it's boring ,make it steeper and retrack it with modern trains
Magnum is the best coaster at cedar point!
No it doesnt its really fun imo better then maverick
Kids.
Back row ride do it

don’t like the addition of WoR, don’t like magnum… what’s next? lol
