I just bought one of these mostly due to this review. Got a used 16 model that has the natural wood around the spalted top. Love it and it is very comfortable to play.
Hey Phil, let Ralph finally play, I thought Ralph was secretly Phil's guitar tech that he didn't want us to know about? Congrats. Ralph, Play-on Player!
Why at time mark 1:35 is the truss rod cover open? did you have to adjust it to get it to play without buzzing? Was this from sweetwater? Shouldn't that have been caught by them at the store? Or is the door just crap and it's broken? Extended "D" neck isn't that just another confusing term for baritone guitar??
Nice guitar. Hi Ralph. Well I have learned something new again on the KYG Channel. Phil thanks for all the things that I have been able to learn just by watching your channel.
Note that the dots on Larry Mitchell's D-neck are different: there are 2 dots at the second fret, where the nut would traditionally be, and they continue up normally starting from there, so the 12th fret dots are actually at the 14th fret. The Ibanez has traditional dot placement, just with a longer scale.
Awesome Phil, I ordered mine a few days ago and can't wait for it to arrive. I have the rga61al and love it, I can't imagine I will feel the same about this!
Phil’s Guitar has the dot inlays in the standard spots. Larry’s Guitar had the inlays so if it was capo at the second fret it would be like normal. That really appeals to me. Does anybody know if they make a guitar with a neck like Larry’s?
How will you stack this up in quality against say a American Standard from fender or a les paul or prs etc similar high quality gitars? And do a more thorough review on it what ya like and dont like etc?
Hey Phil, awesome axe!!.. I had one of the originals till it got stolen. Just a killer design. Mine was the last original body before they destroyed the stock. Great Chanel! Thanks!
Phil, you sly dog you - throwing in some Satch at the 8:22 mark....Nice! And yeah, as an owner of 4 MIJ Ibanez axes, that slide off truss rod cover is genius and absolutely needs to be standard across all Ibanez axes.
"D-Neck" Now that is a concept that is practical and functional. Thanks Phil for turning me onto this. I would be curious to try this with Jazz. Probably would need to do some mods to remove the grungy tones. But, I think Jazz could use an infusion of something new like a guitar that is deeper than traditional models to counteract all the trebly basses out there. Would not that be ironic? A Jazz tune using a D-Neck guitar with a piccolo bass!
Hi Phil, Have you covered or encountered this issue before? When using mid to high gain sounds, I have a strange “warbling” sound on about fret 10 and higher on the G string of my Strat. G string only, and only with gain. I don’t seem to be the only one to have this issue. Any ideas?
Nice! I have a similar model, the Rgdix6mpb iron label, got the locking gotohs and birds eye maple board, maple and purple heart neck and a lil burled 'top', same dimarzios I believe. I never knew the neck was called a D neck, but now it makes sense, hence the D in the name! I actually chose it because of a band I like to play along to. Cky. They play in standard D tuning, so for me it was a win win, I could use standard .10 strings and not need to have the guitar set up for d tuning (or sometimes drop c). I think its great too. Like another commentator I also had a quality control issue on the first one I got. The birds eye maple board had tear outs in it. Looked like craters in the neck. But the replacement I got has been great. Glad I watched this as I never knew it was referred to as a D neck. I thought it was just slightly longer scale and in D tuning as standard haha.
To make this clear: So this is like a baritone guitar, but not with a scale as long as a baritone? With a 26.5" scale you could use slightly thicker strings and tune it B to B, with no problems.
Ibanez always had some of the finest looking and sounding guitars I always thought. Bravo on this unboxing man!
Good to see Ralph again!
It's got a lovely clean tone. A really nice addition to the family!

Thank you for the feedback
But is it good for blues?

Always fun when Ralph's around!
Fuck! Holy Diver! It's been decades I don't hear these chords
Wow that thing rocks. Great honest reaction from Ralph, I think he needs to be in more reviews and he can rock!

Great guitar I bought one 4 months ago, there was a couple of quality control issues which were resolved, sounds really good and so smooth to play.
Can you tell me what issues? Im looking at buying one myself so would help to know

I really like the Amplitude settings 👌
As soon as I saw the pink pups I knew Vie was there. Rock on.
Nice video, Phil. I like Ralph, so it was good seeing him, again--and I also like "un-boxings", so it was a "win-win"...
Great video Phil. Didn’t realize that you could pick so fast. I’ve really only seen you play rock. Nice picking. Sounded good.
Rockin Guitar Phil! Oh yeah Larry Mitchell Rules!!!

I’m solid! Man I love the simplicity and beauty!
I just bought this model and its damn beautiful one but i'm wondering what is the standard tuning for this 26.5 inch E-E or D-D or drop D?
Ibanez rocks! Good to see Ralph shredding w/ you!
Phil himself is so excited to get his hands on :)
Sweet stuff! My first real guitar the RG550! They continue to amaze me!
Cheers
Wow that's a nice Ibanez ,thanks Phil for sharing!!
Hey Phil, awesome axe!!..
I had one of the originals till it got stolen. Just a killer design. Mine was the last original body before they destroyed the stock.
Great Chanel! Thanks!
Awesome guitar wish the front was the same as the back as far as color, great to see Ralph.
I am not necessarily an Ibanez player, but I will say they really do make a nice instrument. A lot of cool finishes
KYG Presents: Blind Guitar Unboxing featuring Ralph. I guess it's a good thing he liked it... this time.

This was a honest and enjoyable video.

That D neck would be awesome on a non tremolo iceman or RG style
I love Ibanez. Oddly, I have a "D neck" that's not an Ibanez, though. It's a Steinberger Synapse Transcale (with built in capo). Fun to play.
I owned one too but had to sell it for $$$. Loved it and Ibanez and Steinberger. Great guitars, both.
Never heard of a D neck before today, that's one very cool guitar!!
That's a really beautiful neck.
Slapit
Play Queen
Some shots, truss rod cover hanging off, other shots in place ? I assume you had to make truss rod adjustments.
Holy Diver? Are you allowed to play songs again? No thumbs down becuz Ralph is in the video
I only really watch the Livestreams with Ralph because it's cool to here different opinions of the same questions

Great editing on this one Phil. Cool review.
Great video! Would this guitar play good in standard tuning?

Greetings from the UK! Great video, love the guitar and good to see Ralph. Can't beat a bit of Dio \m/
Hey nice guitar and a good sound have a lot of fun with this guitar. LG from Germany Detlev

Id hurt myself on those pts lol ,, like the rod door . Hello Ralph !
Ralphy! Heard that story about D neck. LOL. Guitar sounds beefy. Great vid as always Phil.:)
Phil liked the video. Wanna see more videos with Ralph. But the guitar sounded fuzzy.
Great review and nice guitar \m/
Are you related to Steve McKnight from the band Cry Wolf?
Larry Mitchell is awesome! Go check out his channel!!!!
Yeah ralf is back
nice axe!🤘
Did Ralph leave a thumbs down in person?
very cool!
I have to ask, did you find the longer scale of the neck more likable because of your background as a bass player?
That is soooo sweeeet!!!
Phillip , can you give a lesson on the funk slap pop guitar style?
Super cool!!!!
Might need to replace the switch
Really love the aesthetics of this model, absolutely gorgeous. How do you like the Luminlays and Glow-in-the-Dark Ibanez logo?
That Shuriken right behind your head is probably a 27 inch scale guitar.
Phil, room mic all the way!
you dudes are cool!
Holy shit hey Ralph!
Doesn't Panga Panga and Wenge wood come from the same family? Or are possibly the same, like panga is a type of Wenge. Anyway...love the guitar!
Does Ralph have a channel ?
Clickety click clack...:D good to have buddies
SWEET!
Ñisssssssssce 🎸
Love Ibanez guitars
So the neck isn't thin on these? What's the profile like?
@@AzathothsAlarmClock thanks! That helps!
Hard tail, good man
Ralph!
How much $ ?

So is it a baritone?
Yeah longer neck means tighter strings when tuned down. Cgcfad , etc
RALFY BOY
First to comment. Yay me!
Was solid until I seen the price. Not that it’s not worth it.
In honor of Ralph, I had to give this video a thumbs down! Just for you bro. LOL

FIX THE DARN TRUSS ROD COVER!!!!!!!!
aside from being a blatant kiesel rip off in so many ways, pretty neat
your room mic is better than you recording sound...
Razor edge
Audio is fucked..
Ibanez 's finishes are getting really tacky though jeeeeez
