    About a year ago I was looking up reactions to Donald trump winning in 2016. That is when I found you guys. The algorithm started showing me more videos of you guys. Started to watch and was like these guys are so leftist. The more I watched the more I started to agree with some of the points you guys made, things I didn’t hear anywhere else. As an independent I love how you guys are not bias. I’m glad cenk is somewhat optimistic for trump’s term. My parents are hard core republicans but now are talking about how the health care system is terrible. No matter what trump ends up doing I’m glad more people are hearing and agreeing with some populist views. Go TYT

      Ana is stumping for tariffs after citing the research data from the Biden Administration that they didn't cause significant inflation though she mentions the reason why is because the market adapted by moving goods through other countries besides China. By imposing tariffs on all imported goods from everywhere Ana is essentially advocating for inflation as high as 20% because she's either ignorant or out of touch with actual American consumers. Or maybe a bit of both.

    A little factoid that you might not know. In the name of globalism, both political parties designed a tax structure and regulatory framework that actively encouraged foreign investment in U.S. stocks and real estate. This shift has had profound consequences on wealth distribution in America. While the bottom 95% saw their share of stock and real estate ownership decline, the top 1% experienced exponential increases in value. Over the past few decades, your average take-home pay has decreased by over one-third. Meanwhile, during just the last four years (2020 to 2024), the total wealth of U.S. billionaires surged by nearly 88%, growing from $2.95 trillion to over $5.5 trillion. In 2023, U.S. companies paid a record $565 billion in dividends. Given that approximately 40% of U.S. corporate equities are owned by foreign investors, this translates to around $429,985 flowing overseas every minute via dividends paid to foreign-owned U.S. corporate equities.

    It is imperative to bear in mind that re-industrialization for the sake of reducing foreign dependencies will also bring a trend toward domestic sourcing and processing raw materials (e.g., mining) and the imperative need for stringent environmental regulation with enforcement powers. All politicians just say words. They don't show you actions when they say these words. All you have to go on is their history of action, be it for or against the things they say. Republicans, almost to the entirety of the group, have failed to do anything sensible related to what they say they will do. Democrats fail to do this too, but to a lesser degree, as they at least often put forth legislation that sounds reasonable to what they said even if it fails to pass. So between two parties that aren't very reliable, one is notably better than the other. Like 1% success rate with Republicans vs 40% success rate with Democrats. Not great numbers, but certainly distinguishable.

    Tariffs are a tax on Americans unless your plan is to put tariffs on products that are also produce domestically and you want to make the foreign made products more expensive and less desirable than their domestic competitor. Otherwise, the foreign manufacturer just tacks on the cost of the tariffs onto their products price to the consumer and we all pay for the tariffs, not the manufacturer.

    • @Iris-hx6ox
      @Iris-hx6ox Місяць тому

      I can't speak to liberals that are a part of the Democratic party, but as a progressive, my problem with Trump is that he is not different than any other President. For over half a century now, it hasn't mattered what party was in the Oval, the house, the senate or judicial, the American workers have been knee capped and their lives have gotten worse with each passing administration, even after Trump's first term in office.
      The delusion that the country is where it is solely because of Biden is idiotic. Trump shut down that beautiful economy supporters talk about. Had Trump won the second term, he would have been in the same boat Biden was in at the beginning of 2020. That economy wouldn't have magically appeared again.
      Those checks they fawn about were only in their hands because the Democrats passed the resolution. The Republicans voted against it. Trump delayed those checks going out to make sure his signature was on them. He's a brilliant BS artist.
      The parties are two sides of the same coin. They answer to their donors. Trump said as much on the campaign trail and shockingly, no one batted an eye. We live in an Oligarchy now and we are in the second gilded age on steroids at that. To fix it, one can't keep voting the better of two evils into office and expect a different result.
      Trump is not the great savior everyone thinks he is. Obama wasn't either. All of it a delusion. They are running on a populist playbook and throwing it in the garbage the minute they hit the oval.

    • @deanmarten
      @deanmarten Місяць тому +2

      What the left doesn't get about Trump is everything is a negotiation. He takes an extreme position and the media flips a gasket and he's unpredictable, and it's all for position. He moves the overton window by taking a nutty position and then what would have seemed impossible suddenly is feasible. It is the art of the deal. It's just strategy.

    Tariffs generally not good for the economy. There can be an exception if in this case China was subsidising the cost of manufacturing, an argument can be made for tariffs. It can also be done in retaliation for tariffs imposed by china on imports, but this can lead to further escalation.

    Tariffs are complex and nuanced. It's depressing that people don't pay more attention.
    A simple rundown of trumps steel tariffs is a good example. The steel tax increased the price of steel in the US by 15% - that's good for the steel industry, because it was surviving by the skin of it's teeth. It's not great for US manufacturers making products with high steel content (like cars etc...) because their goods become less competitive and imports rise. So a better approach would be to place tariffs on imported finished goods with high steel content - except that a president can't do that, because it's not a national security issue.

    You can't afford it.
    That's the problem. EVERYTHING you buy in the store is there at a price you can afford because somewhere down the chain there's a guy working for 2 dollars a day. (Or its subsidized)
    Why does Taiwan produce all the chips for the US? You think Google and Apple can't make their own factories?
    We need Taiwan to make those chips with Taiwanese salaries.
    You cannot have a chain of 10 people getting paid 15 dollars an hour, and not have the final product cost way more than most people can afford. We cannot afford western salaries for our production chains.
    You know what a serf is? It means a poor farmer, from like medieval times.
    A serf would have, maybe one suit, one jacket, a small house, a set of furniture, one acre of land, and maybe a cow or two. That was a poverty.
    Can you afford hand crafted furniture? A tailor made suit? Two cows? A HOUSE?
    We are DIRT poor, being cheap sold plastic junk to convince is we are better off than we used to be. It's a house of cards.

    I do not believe in free trade. Free markes yes. If you want to service a market you have to produce goods and services in that market. Import export are goods and or services that can't be produced in that market. This would eliminate cheap labor market incentives for companies and put back competition in the market served. Driving down cost in that market.

    One of the big differences between the US and Chinese companies is US companies pay a lot for healthcare for their employees. The Chinese government pays for Chinese employees healthcare. That makes it hard for US companies to compete. We need universal health care, Medicare for all in the US and we wouldn't need tarriffs.

    The real problem with manufacturing in the US (we absolutely do need manufacturing back in the US) , the problem is it will not increase jobs for americans (to a statistically significant degree). The reason is that manufacturing is automated by machines. Electronic manufacturing now does not even require a human being at all in the manufacturing process (a complete humanless production). And now with AI (via LLMs) and robots (Figure1, Tesla, Boston Dynamics), now even more people are no longer needed in the plant.

    • @bluecollarhero

      Not really true yet. Even Tesla run by Elon who has every selfish/greedy reason to replace workers can't manage that feat. More likely white collar jobs will be replaced with AI software before blue collar jobs get replaced by robots. Of course both are still workers and need protection.
