The Hasbro G.I. Joe Real American Hero (RAH) toy line is a popular and iconic action figure series that was first introduced in 1982. The line was relaunched as "Real American Hero" to distinguish it from the original G.I. Joe toy line of the 1960s. The Real American Hero series was accompanied by a Marvel Comics series and an animated television show, both of which contributed to the franchise's success.
The G.I. Joe figures were initially released as 3.75-inch scale action figures. These figures were smaller and more articulated than their 12-inch predecessors from the 1960s. The smaller size allowed for more detailed accessories, vehicles, and playsets.
G.I. Joe introduced a vast array of characters, each with a unique military specialty, code name, and backstory. The line featured heroes from various branches of the military, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Special Forces.
The toy line also introduced the villainous Cobra organization, led by the nefarious Cobra Commander. Cobra figures included soldiers, officers, and specialized troops, each with their own distinct designs and roles in the Cobra organization.
G.I. Joe Real American Hero had an extensive line of vehicles and playsets that could be used with the action figures. These ranged from small motorcycles and jeeps to larger tanks, helicopters, and bases. The vehicles often included features such as movable parts, firing projectiles, and storage compartments for accessories.
The toy line was closely tied to the Marvel Comics series and the animated television show. The stories in the comics and cartoons often influenced the development of new figures and vehicles, creating a cohesive narrative across different forms of media.
The G.I. Joe Real American Hero toy line has left a lasting impact on popular culture, influencing not only the toy industry but also generating a dedicated fan base that continues to celebrate the franchise.

First time I seen Headman in ANY top 10! Crazy!
Loved the figure since I first saw him. Another faction for G.I. Joe to fight, very reflective of what was going on in pop culture in 1992, and you just never see him in the wild. At least I never do

Great to see I'm not the only one who likes Headman and his crew.
And another plus for Steeler, on Canadian card, his birthplace is Hamilton, On instead of Pittsburgh.
There was an effort at Hasbro Canada to give some characters a Canadian origin. Only did that in 82, 83... And 94. I guess not everyone likes that, but I do.

1 - Torch Ripper Buzzer 85 (I know, it's cheating, but they are perfect bad guys)
2 - Hit & Run 88 (so much play time with that figure)
3 - Storm Shadow 88
4 - Outback 87
5 - BAT 86 (swappable hand, hard to beat)
6 - Snow Serpent 85 (snowshoes, come on)
7 - Rock'n'Roll 89
8 - Heavy Duty 91 (forget the oversized gear, that's a beautiful figure)
9 - Airborne 83
10 - Destro 88 (so cool)

My top 5(outside of the usual big 5) are Firefly, Beachhead, QuickKick, Zartan and LowLight.
I have a funny, nostalgic soft spot for QuickKick after seeing him running around in the Arctic without shoes or a shirt(SOMEHOW???), while also taking on StormShadow in the cartoon…so ridiculous and bad a$s!! Lol!

Interesting 10 list buddy it’s certainly different somewhat to mine but that is ok with me. I grew up reading and watching GIJoe back in day, when I saw storm shadow version two in the store I had to buy him and when I discovered he became Joey I finally realised the toy dint fellow the cartoon but instead it fellow the comic. My young brain exploded when I made that discovery. We were truly lucky growing up having toys like this full of character development Awesome vehicles, a kick arse comic book and an awesome cartoon I feel sorry for kids These days who missed out having such awesome toys.
The 80's were a magical time. We grew up with such amazing IP's that had such imagination. Hasbro wasn't scared to take chances and it shows. The Hama comic both Marvel and IDW IS the Joe lore. Hama's back stories and origins made those figures all come to life.

I loved Chuckles and Maverick! I played with them a ton! Beach Head, Copperhead, Alley Viper, Heat Viper, Barbeque, Bats, General Hawk, and the Annihilator were my top 10.

Zartan the original figure with the skier should be on that list. Maybe even the Cobra La three figure set and Sgt. Slaughters Renegades.

Agreed! I never liked him as a kid, but that's because I didn't understand the character. He didn't do really anything in the Joe animated movie except through a missle?! But now as an adult collector I get it.

I have 5 of them from my childhood and wanted the other 5. I always appreciated drivers more cause they were harder to get I guess. Love the ice viper and wild card and his Rambo styled knife/machete. I still have both.

I understand that these things are subjective, and there are definitely some cool figures here, but this is hands down the oddest top 10 GI Joe list I've ever seen. Headman reminds me of Hamburglar, but I do agree with your appreciation of Falcon.

I wouldn't have ever imagined one of the Battle Force 2000 guys being included on a list like this. I've a soft spot for some of them but they seem to be very unpopular lol. Good taste you have IMO. Croc Master and Headman are other figures I love that don't get much love either.

I had a desert viper ( the brown and gold figure with a red faceplate). He was my go to guy for taking on the Joe's. Perfect gun, backpack, and he had grenades. I wish I had more of him so I could've had a squad.
