What a song. A genuine masterpiece. That middle section always sounds like it's going to morph into something just short of free jazz. Jones in particular really shines on this one. The live version is arguably even better.
Bonzo was a phenomenal drummer. Him and Moon are my favorites. Sometimes people new to Zeppelin overlook JPJ though, when you listen to these songs tune in to the bass and keyboards, he's an amazing musician too. All of them were just meant to play together, there will never be music made like this again.
Awesome reaction. This has always been in my top 3 Zep songs. Achilles Last Stand is # 1. The 1973 live version of No Quarter will blow your mind. It's about 11 minutes long with the most incredible guitar solo. Be careful you don't listen to the 8 minute condensed version without the solo.
I am so glad I grew up in the Era I did. We had some of the most amazing music 🎶 stuff you just don't hear very often anymore. You know you're listening to something great when you get lost and forget ❤️❤️
Watch the live version from the movie The Song Remains the Same. 1973 movie from Led Zeppelin . The live version of No Quarter will blow your mind. Those four musicians created magic together.
This is the perfect reaction for him to be introduced to the band TOOL. They do an amazing cover of No Quarter. Hector will LOSE HIS FUCKING MIND!!! TOOL - No Quarter. Make it happen! TOOL is the modern love child of Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. You want your brain to be squeezed? There is no other option than TOOL. TOOL - No Quarter Do it!!!
Absolutely!!!! Was getting into the comments to say the same thing. This is a great song and Tool's cover is I think just a little better with the extra addition. Would love to see Hector react to Tool.
The drummer, John Bonham, was the heart of the band. He is widely considered to be the BEST rock drummer that ever lived. It's perfectly understandable if you're the type of listener that follows the beat to be swept away by the drumming in Zeppelin songs. And, you're right there's strong Pink Floyd vibes in No Quarter. I never really thought of it but after listening to a lot of Pink Floyd the past several years I see the similarities now. Fantastic reaction to this chill track.
Watch it live 1973 Madison Square garden. One of the best live solos ever. The concert is epic, since I've been loving you, dazed and confused, while lotta love. Simply so much better live. For a drumming masterclass, Kashmir 1979 knebworth concert. Blow your mind.
I knew you’d love this. Led Zeppelin is made of four geniuses. This song shows us the genius of their bassist/keyboardist, John Paul Jones, the main composer of this song. I suggest sometime, either on your own or as a reaction video, you check out the much longer live version from the concert film “The Song Remains the Same.” It’s 12 minutes compared to this one at 7. In some live versions Jones adds solos in it & takes it to 20 minutes of ecstasy. Not all UA-cam videos of the film version are equal. Find one that has good video as well as audio. By the way, the bass in the concert version is done by Jones with foot pedals, like pipe organs!
Jonesy was playing a Hammond B3 at Madison Square Gardens, which has a pedalboard built in. It was still a couple of years before Moog would bring out the Taurus bass pedals, as used famously by Mike Rutherford in Genesis. By 'In Through the Out Door', he had acquired the Yamaha GX-1 'Dream Machine', which also featured a pedalboard ( well originally it had, & when he sold it to Keith Emerson, but it emerged a couple of years ago at auction, missing some parts, including the pedals ).
@@chassetterfield9559 Thanks. I love it when a comment I make inspires someone like you to tell us all sorts of neat facts about the music & musicians. What’s cool about pedals is that the player can use two hands to get the full keyboard music while still adding bass, unlike ground breaking Doors’ Ray Manzarek having to use his left hand to get the bass.
Hiya Mark.... I've watched a lot of Zep videos from you by now and obviously the drums are making an impression on you, it did on us at the time... And I was trying to think what it was that makes them so different and ok, I get the snare sound is different, and I have been listening to them since 1970 and I've just realised that conpared to so many of their contemporaries the drums are mixed so much higher than others around that time.Thank you for letting me cogitate on that one..... You little scamp... That was singing not guitar at the end by the way.... Robert at his very best wailing.... echoed to fuck of course. Keep on Rocking.
I'm loving your choices of songs to do. And I like how you're doing primarily studio versions instead of live versions. There seem to be a lot of people that don't know that you just want to listen and DO NOT want to watch any video while you're listening. The studio recordings sound so much better than live recordings 99% of the time. I am SO enjoying what you're doing!
It’s not either or. It’s both and. We don’t have to sacrifice live versions for studio ones or vice versa. But one thing stands out to me regarding Mark. He often expresses dissatisfaction that a performance isn’t longer. But often it is a live version that IS longer. He deserves to know he has the option of enjoying a longer, live version if he wants to.
I remember in high school jazz band, we had a guest lecturer. A jazz professor from the nearby university. Talked to us about finding the rhythmic pocket & said the greatest example is John Bonham. Great reaction my friend.
Believe me, I know how you feel. I felt the same way when I first heard Led Zeppelin in my teens. I couldn't believe how crazy good they were. John Bonham just drove all the songs in the right direction, and there was no one like him, which is why Zeppelin disbanded after his passing. He was one of a kind. Robert Plant, in his younger day, could reach well above high C in his vocal, and nobody sang like him either at least when they first started out. When Deep Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore first heard Led Zeppelin, he fired his then singer for Deep Purple and sent him scrambling to find a singer to compete with Robert. That's how much they changed the whole landscape of what was going on at the time.
Top five Led Zeppelin songs: Stairway To Heaven, No Quarter, Whole Lotta Love, Kashmir, Achilles Last Stand. No, wait... First phrase in Stairway where Bonham plays the ride cymbal, is the best Bonham snare fill/ghost note groove. 👍
Yeah it was Page's guitar and Plant's vocals that got me hooked on Zeppelin but after nearly 40 years of listening to this band, it is Bonham's drums that stand out the most, and some of those JPJ base lines are just perfect. The piano in this song is just gold! Back when i first got into the devil's lettuce my mates and i would literally close the door and turn out the lights whilst listening to this song stoned...probably a close second to Shine on you Crazy Diamond by Pink Floyd, for that.
id say its john bonhams bass pedal ..it does a lot of unnoticed but massively felt work.. but the snare aint bad 😂.. absolute legend.. most drummers favourite drummer.. says a lot.
Has always been one of my favorite Zep songs. It bangs so hard it feels like it's rumbling out of the depths of the earth. Literally the heaviest song ever made in my opinion.
Awesome track from Led Zeppelin! It’s jammin song 🎶 to listen to. Thanks so much for sharing your reaction and it’s a like and thumbs up.😄👍#ledzeppelin
Hector, my man! A great reaction to a great song from a great band. It does me heart good to see your generation discover the songs, and bands, that I grew up with. If you haven't noticed already, when Led Zeppelin wasn't singing about women and sex (a great hook for a young buck like I was), they delved deeply into topics like Fantasy novels and Norse/Celtic mythology. This song was one of those deep dives: ancient warriors setting off on a risky mission, expecting no mercy from the enemy and not giving any. This is where the title "No Quarter" comes from. If you want to check out another Zeppelin song with that Pink Floyd vibe, I would recommend "The Rain Song" from their Houses of the Holy album. This song illustrates Jimmy Page (guitarist) and John Paul Jones' (bassist) ability to compose, and infuse, music with orchestral elements. It's a truly beautiful song. Sorry for the long rant, Hector. Just keep on doing you. Can't wait to see where your journey of musical discovery takes you next. And as always, ROCK ON! 🤟🖖✌️
I'm obsessed with your madness and PASSION. Check out "The Song Remains the Same", live video. As atmospheric as this piece. Does have a Pink Floyd feel. So glad you're back!!!!
Yesss! Best subscription I've ever made. You've mentioned Zep as a Lord Of The Rings reminder. Definitely need to add Ramble On and Misty Mountain Hop to your list. I f'ing love this channel.
Again always a great choice! This is one of my favourite Zeppelin Tunes. And why I like it so much is from the movie Led Zeppelin The Song Remains the Same. The video of John Paul Jones on the organs amazing👍👍
St. Paul and the Broken Bones Austin City Limits "I'm Torn Up" The pocket you've been grooving in is R&B singers that can just flat blow. This is that.
Funny you mention Macky D at the start. Did you notice he has "no quarter" tatted under his eye? I think NoQuarter is one of the baddest phrases ever. You should put it on your next shirt... "haters get no quarter" 😆 🤣 😂 Led zeppelin is one of my favorites. Up there with the Eagles and Meatloaf in my brain.
I told you this was special. Evolution of Led Zeppelin is amazing through the years... Goosebumps all over me. Oh, it seems you're ready to Kashmir now :) Or, if you want something truly special (and much more recent) get the medley between "Norwegian woods" (Beatles, and DEFINITIVELY NOT the music type you probably associate to Beatles) and "Kashmir" (Led Zeppelin) made by "the aaron english band", That one is crazy good... But no, go for the original Led Zeppelin one, Kashmir is a trip into yourself in search for truth...
Maybe you could check out BOTH versions that everyone is talking about..( in the same video...)..the live version from 'The Song Remains The Same'.....as well as this one. 'The Song Remains The Same' version was a concert recorded in Madison Square Garden ( in the late 70? ). As far as I know....THAT was the first version I heard. SEE the majesty that is Led Zeppelin.
Love your reactions, especially all your Led Zeppelin ones. You mention so much how much you love the drums, I think that you should check out Moby Dick, which is the ultimate John Bonham showcase. I recommend the live version at Royal Albert Hall 1970. The studio version is great, but the live version is spectacular
If you're going to keep listening to Zeppelin I highly recommend hey hey what can I do or tangerine. Both songs are phenomenal yet have a totally different style
As always, a great reaction. Another band that I think you need on your radar is Robin Trower. This was a huge band around the 70’s that didn’t get a lot of radio air time but were cut from the same cloth as Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. You could tell who was serious about music if they had the Bridge of Sighs album from Trower in their collection. I’d recommend trying the song Too Rolling Stoned as a first listen. It has driving bass and about a 4 minute guitar solo that makes you want to turn out the lights and kickback with the headphones. This is a group that you won’t get a lot of requests for because of the lack of radio time but when people heard them were dumbstruck. You will be goosing!
Yes!! Love it. Great reaction, please, please, when are you going to check " Tool" out? They are pink floyd/ led zeppelin in one and a heap more. They actually covered this track, and you would be amazed at how good it is.
I recommend, according to your apparent sensibilities, the following selections by YES: On the Silent Wings of Freedom; Release Release; Parallels; Awaken; Ritual. (If you give them a try please have someone close-by as there are one or two of these that you may not survive). Cheers.
At first I didn’t recognize the name but for some reason I knew all the words. Boys club dances and my junior high band teacher playing this. So darlin when are you going to play “DARLENE “ ??? It’s on the Led Zeppelin CODA album
I can tell that you're not just working your way through the 'Mothership' album. But, possibly by coincidence, of the 14 Zeppelin tracks you've reacted to so far, 13 have been from the first 4 albums, in fact mostly the first, which you've almost exhausted [ 6/9 ]. This is your first wander outside I - IV, since this is from 'Houses of the Holy'. In total they made 9 original studio albums, so you've still got a l - o - n - g way to go, 'Presence', ' Physical Graffiti', 'In through the out door' & 'Coda', besides the rest of 'Houses.....' & other tracks from the first 4. [ And Physical Graffiti is a double album] Yes, this does sound different to the others. ALL of Zeppelin's albums are different to each other, partly because they were aging & growing as artists [ although they started from an amazingly high base ], and partly because they wanted them to; they didn't want to be pigeonholed as just an XXXXXXXX band. If this has been a journey so far, wait until you see what's ahead.
@@mirandak3273 Even when Page & Plant did their 'Unledded' album & tour together. They took LZ songs, stripped them down & redelivered them in a new way. I know that it caused some ill feeling, because Jonesy was not invited along. But, if the 3 of them had appeared together, people would have looked upon it as LZ 'reforming', and then would look for pristine recreations of the originals. That was definitely NOT what Jimmy & Robert were about. Jimmy is still tinkering with the tapes to this day, trying to remaster them into something somehow new & 'better'. Robert still plays LZ in his solo work, but always re-interpreted in innovative ways. We got to see what would happen when all 3 got on a stage together a few years later [ R & R 'Hall of Fame' performance excluded ] at the Ahmet Ertegun tribute, which became 'Celebration Day'. Then, they DID aim for as pristine recreations of the original as possible, and how many people applied for tickets for THAT show?
What a song. A genuine masterpiece. That middle section always sounds like it's going to morph into something just short of free jazz. Jones in particular really shines on this one. The live version is arguably even better.
Always gives me goosebumps every time I hear this, takes me right back to when I first heard the album. The live version is even better!
I'm watching myself "##" years ago discovering this music for the first time.
Just like you it's an "EXPERIENCE" like no other. We knew no better...
I've been listening to their art for over 50 yrs and it still hasn't gotten old. Well, there was "Hotdog."
Yes it is
Bonzo was a phenomenal drummer. Him and Moon are my favorites. Sometimes people new to Zeppelin overlook JPJ though, when you listen to these songs tune in to the bass and keyboards, he's an amazing musician too. All of them were just meant to play together, there will never be music made like this again.
John Bonham was a drumming God back in the 70’s. His sound was as near to perfect as you can get.
Led Zepplin - The Rain Song!!!!!
👍The format and pattern of Achilles Last Stand is the formula on which Iron Maiden based its entire songwriting style.
Yes Achilles Last Stand must be listened to, agree 💯
I am so glad I grew up in the Era I did. We had some of the most amazing music 🎶 stuff you just don't hear very often anymore. You know you're listening to something great when you get lost and forget ❤️❤️

Led Zeppelin drew inspiration from all sorts of genres from all over the world. Can't wait for you to check out 'Kashmir'.

I can't believe you haven't reacted to arguably Led Zeppelin's best song... Kashmir.
the live version of this from msg 73 is INCREDIBLE!
Watch it live 1973 Madison Square garden. One of the best live solos ever. The concert is epic, since I've been loving you, dazed and confused, while lotta love. Simply so much better live. For a drumming masterclass, Kashmir 1979 knebworth concert. Blow your mind.
"It's seven minutes long, which means it's going to fucking destroy me!"
Superb.
You'll have to listen to In My Time of Dying.
John Paul Jones (bassist) on keys. Such a great song.
I knew you’d love this.

This song is epic from the most epic band. No other band like them. Every song is awesome.
One of the greatest songs ever recorded
They are all goats in their own rights they gonna slow you down with this one but you're gonna love it

Tea for 1 Led Zeppelin 😮😮
My favourite Zep song , Their live version of it on Celebration day is incredible!
I remember in high school jazz band, we had a guest lecturer. A jazz professor from the nearby university. Talked to us about finding the rhythmic pocket & said the greatest example is John Bonham. Great reaction my friend.
Can definitely see where you are getting the Floyd vibes.
This was one of my favs when it first came out. Happy to relive it through your bliss.
Song is awesome! Great reaction!

We loved this as teens in the 70s. We used to get stoned and groove to it with friends. What a time to be a teenager.
This is how ALL reviews should be done! Love the energy and how real you are!
No one NO ONE hit the skins as hard as Bonzo man ❤
One of the finest Rock n Roll tunes laid down on vinyl!
I think you’re ready to check out In My Time of Dying from their album Physical Graffiti. I’m certain you’ll enjoy it. Cheers mate.
Really want to freak out watch the movie song remains the same. That's the nineteen seventy three concert at madison square garden which I attended
Love It ❤Love YOU!!!....My fav Led Zeppelin song "KASHMIR" live Celebration Day concert video best....I've told my kids to play it @ my funeral..😜
❤❤❤Robert ❤❤❤

This is gonna blow his mind! Now try “song remains the same/rain song” live from Madison square garden
Another Zep song that I think has Floyd vibes to it is "In the Light". It's my favorite Zep song just a little ahead of this "No Quarter".
Great reaction, do try the 11 minute live MSG 1973, heavier AND trippier
id say its john bonhams bass pedal ..it does a lot of unnoticed but massively felt work.. but the snare aint bad 😂.. absolute legend.. most drummers favourite drummer.. says a lot.

Hector, my man! A great reaction to a great song from a great band. It does me heart good to see your generation discover the songs, and bands, that I grew up with.

Bonham beat the drums like they owed him money.
Might I suggest "As I Lay Dying" and "Fool In the Rain"?
love your reactions Mark. yes, you take me back to the first time of hearing LZ every time. thank you.
Tom has "No Quarter" tat.
Always love your joy and excitment.
I'm obsessed with your madness and PASSION.
Check out "The Song Remains the Same", live video. As atmospheric as this piece. Does have a Pink Floyd feel.
So glad you're back!!!!
Like Coltrane. Very progressive.
Yesss! Best subscription I've ever made. You've mentioned Zep as a Lord Of The Rings reminder. Definitely need to add Ramble On and Misty Mountain Hop to your list. I f'ing love this channel.
Yes! They are LOTR songs. I mean in the lyrics.
As a baby boomer, I love the youthful enthusiasm of the reaction. We were practically weaned on this music.
Yes, you do seem to get excited with your Led Zeppelin reviews ..
Many, many more surprises to come for you, young Sir!!
you want Zep drums.......When the Levee Breaks form LZ IV still online arguments today on how they were recorded.
Again always a great choice! This is one of my favourite Zeppelin Tunes. And why I like it so much is from the movie Led Zeppelin The Song Remains the Same. The video of John Paul Jones on the organs amazing👍👍
St. Paul and the Broken Bones Austin City Limits "I'm Torn Up"
The pocket you've been grooving in is R&B singers that can just flat blow. This is that.
That's the best reaction to that song I have ever seen I'm going to watch it again and again
Love The Ocean & rover. So many to choose from. Kashmir is awesome
One of my absolute favorites from Led Zeppelin.
Loved this reaction. This song does the same to me. One of my faves by them. Thanks for the awesome reaction ❤
Funny you mention Macky D at the start. Did you notice he has "no quarter" tatted under his eye? I think NoQuarter is one of the baddest phrases ever. You should put it on your next shirt... "haters get no quarter" 😆 🤣 😂

'The Song Remains The Same' version was a concert recorded in Madison Square Garden ( in the late 70? ). As far as I know....THAT was the first version I heard. SEE the majesty that is Led Zeppelin.
The live footage on 'The Song Remains the Same' was recorded over several nights of the MSG 1973 concerts.
LOVE your reaction to this, Hector! 🤗🤗😁. One of my favorites by my favorite band. Another that has a similar vibe is In The Light.
The Rain Song 🎵 😍
I am glad you finally listened to this song. It is quite different than the other LepZep-songs you listened to. Next on the list is Kashmir, right?❤
Nice, honest reaction!!!
You feel just like I felt 45 years ago when I heard this for the very first time!!
Love this song! When I saw it pop up on my feed I couldn’t start it fast enough. Knew you’d like it! Rock on, my friend!! 🤘🏻🔥
If you're going to keep listening to Zeppelin I highly recommend hey hey what can I do or tangerine. Both songs are phenomenal yet have a totally different style
That “something” about Zeppelins drums is John Bonham being the greatest to ever live
My Favorite.
John paul jones plays the keyboards on this plus he plays the baseline on the base pedals below
Love hanging out with you and listening to awesome music. Cheers ! ✌️

Definitely Pink Floyd vibes this song. Love this song and the album.
i LOVE the riff on this
Great job. Loved it.
Yes!! Love it. Great reaction, please, please, when are you going to check " Tool" out? They are pink floyd/ led zeppelin in one and a heap more. They actually covered this track, and you would be amazed at how good it is.
You're catching on to Zeppelin 🤣
Time for Led Zeppy!! 💜💜💜🤗🤗🤗 Lmao! Wassup and wusah! Perfect song for visualization! 😊😊😊
You are the best my friend..
You wanna Led Zeppy drum trip??? Moby Dick 💯🥁 Love love love reliving all these memories with ya!!!! 😊
In my time of dying is a Masterpiece!
Thats a rad vibe, man. 😎
Yeah its my top 4 Led zeppelin song
🔥🔥❤️🔥🔥
Edit: Congratulations on 36k ❤️
I recommend, according to your apparent sensibilities, the following selections by YES: On the Silent Wings of Freedom; Release Release; Parallels; Awaken; Ritual. (If you give them a try please have someone close-by as there are one or two of these that you may not survive). Cheers.

I'm wondering why you want that one played. Love that song, too. 😀
It’s written for me lol.. a few people believed that from high school
Hiya Hector. Love Led Zeppy!

In total they made 9 original studio albums, so you've still got a l - o - n - g way to go, 'Presence', ' Physical Graffiti', 'In through the out door' & 'Coda', besides the rest of 'Houses.....' & other tracks from the first 4. [ And Physical Graffiti is a double album]
Yes, this does sound different to the others.
Just to twist your melon a little further, there is no track on 'Houses ....' called 'Houses of the Holy' - it's on 'Physical Graffiti' .......
Also their later work. Plant’s solo career. Page with Rodgers in the Firm. There’s a myriad of more material! 😊
Digin the GOATS My man!😎👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
