It's actually very very rare or unheard of that traditional vietnamese ear picks would cause ear damage or even infection. Most barbers know what they're doing. But yeah I agreed make sure they clean their instruments between customers

A friend of mine went to Thailand years ago. He'd been looking forward to the trip for years. He got this done, and the next day, he woke up with a horrendous ear infection. It was so painful for him that he cancelled his trip. His hearing hasn't been the same since.
Do not do this guys. It is not worth it.

I got the feather ear cleaning when i was thailand (they included it in my head spa massage) last week and I've got a horrible horrible ear infection from it. Would not recommend as i doubt they are able to sanitise feathers

I did an ear cleaning in fact it was yesterday. But I went to an otolaryngologist.
He did it in a clinical setting all the equipment was sanitized and it was totally painless.

OMG.....I would never have anyone clean my ears like that! That was so tense to watch. Plus, I produce very little wax in my ears so I have no need to have them cleaned out. Luckily, I have never had any issues with my ears. I am glad he left some hair on top for you. You were very generous with that tip. I pray your ears are OK.
I have had two ear reconstruction due to bad infections. Noway would l do this!

have had my ears cleaned in VN hundreds of times and have never got an ear infection from them. maybe it's just a matter of time before i get an infection? : ) besides 150,000vnd is a little high for the services he got. most hot toc's charge 70-90k for the three services.

i would say that the risk of getting an ear infection or injury during this is about the same as getting an injury or skin problem from a massage in the U.S. yes, it's possible, but still uncommon. people who clean ears in this fashion in places like Vietnam, Thailand and China have years of experience doing it. i would judge mostly on hygiene and experience -- best to go to salons or do research on UA-cam/online first
That doesn’t clean the ears if anything would make hearing worse when putting things inside the ear it just pushes wax further in and compacts it always best to flush the ears out
In general, it does not fit very deep to clean your ears. I do them several times in Vietnam I had 0 problems. Then if you come across a guy who doesn't know how to do and do anything. It's something else. But before doing the ear cleanings he took training for that. So the risk is almost zero.
