  • In this, the fifth video on the Cessna 172 simulator, we discuss the radio panel and explore how it works and what we can pick up with it. There's airport charts, radio frequencies and even some Morse Code in this one. The video is 1080 HD and is free to download with no attribution necessary.

    Thanks to this excellent video I bought 3 of these radio panels. I will be using them in my home sim for not just the Cessna though, but all aircraft! May look a little odd to have these in a 737, but I like the idea of having a few LCD displays and knobs in my cockpit! :-) Makes sense to have panels that will be applicable to multiple aircraft.

    With effect from 27th February 2020, the conspicuity code for traffic operating under VFR conditions, changed to 7000 for those pilots who have not received a specific instruction from ATS concerning the setting of the transponder (see NATS AIC Y 128/2019).

    Where did you get or did you make the panel of toggle switches to turn on different radios to hear the transmission? Thanks for this video as I had no idea how they worked.

    • @FatherDane
      @FatherDane  3 роки тому

      I made the toggle switch panel. It replicates an actual panel on a Cessna and it functions in the same way. I activated the switches using FSUIPC. 😊

    How did you separate the units .. ie. when I change frequency on one receiver the 2 unit will also change and vice versa ? it doesnt matter if comm/nav or adf ?

    • @FatherDane
      @FatherDane  3 роки тому

      There is a selector switch on the left side to choose which COM or NAV to connect to. There are two displays in each panel and each switch controls the display. You can choose COM1 COM2 NAV1 NAV2 ADF DME and XPDR.

  • @kontrakias29
    @kontrakias29 Рік тому

    One clarification please: assuming I have one panel and nav1 and nav 2 are tuned to two VORs or one VOR and one ILS, if I turn the left knob to adf and set an NDB frequency, will the previously mentioned nav settings be lost?

    • @FatherDane
      @FatherDane  Рік тому

      Good question: since I never tried it I am only guessing. But from logic, I would say that it would not change. Reason is that when you switch to another function, the values of that function are presented so switching between functions should not lose any previous value. Happy landings 😊

    Question, I just got into the simming side of MSFS. I have been playing it as a very casual player since Flight Simulator 2 on my Atari 800 but it is always been jump in and fly around for short periods visually. I never knew how to use any of the instruments. I picked up the Logitech Yoke, Rudder pedals, MFD panel and switch panel which is a good start point I think for learning the aircraft and the systems. MSFS 202 seems to hands all the radio stuff for you, changing frequencies and such. Is there a way to get the simulator to stop doing that so you have to manually enter frequencies? It was the main reason I did not buy the radio panel.

    • @FatherDane
      @FatherDane  2 роки тому

      I'm sorry, but I use P3D which you can control. I have no experience with MSFS. Is there a forum for MSFS you can check with?

      Mine come with a subscription to NAVIGRAPH (www.navigraph.com/) but I suspect there may be some other sources online that may have them, but at what cost, I don't know. But try NAVIGRAPH first and see if there is something there you can use and afford. Cheers

      Depending on what you see, it could be time to/from the station or the speed. See www.aopa.org/news-and-media/all-news/2018/january/flight-training-magazine/how-it-works-distance-measuring-equipment for more details on this and hopefully it will give you a clearer answer 😊

    hi father, i am learning as i go. i have the logitech pro yoke with multi, flight and i just bought 1 radio panel. are you showing us that we need 3 radio panels? i started on the cessana 172 but i prefer the tbm 930 for longer flights. thank you

    • @FatherDane
      @FatherDane  3 роки тому +1

      Hello - that's a good question. I know that the radio panels look like they are just for that, but actually, they also double as other instruments as well. Thus I have two radios, two navigation units (essential for instrument flying without a glass cockpit) an ADF and a transponder. The last one was an autopilot module. The TBM is a fine aircraft but it has a very modern glass cockpit which the 172 that I flew (back in the day) was basic instruments only. I took my IFR rating in a 172 and because it was basic instruments, it taught me a lot more things about flying than a glass cockpit would have. It's rather like learning to drive a car with an automatic transmission: it is harder to drive a stick after that, but learning in a stick shift and then moving to an automatic is easier. Does this help?

    • @FatherDane
      @FatherDane  3 роки тому

      One of the issues with Logitech is that the instrument units can lose their connection. What you need to do is after you start your computer and expect to see the units all lit up, is to unplug and re-plug the USB cable one by one on all the ones that are not lit. They will then re-connect. But take your time as the system needs to re-establish each one in turn. It is just the way it is with those as the USB is actually connecting a video device rather than an ordinary USM device. Best wishes 😊

      @@FatherDane thanks for that tip, I do that but another tip I had was that it was in Windows itself in the power saving options you change a 1 for a 0 but you have to be careful because it's in the registry.

    • @FatherDane
      @FatherDane  3 роки тому +1

      @@ronholfly Yes you can change the individual power settings for each USB device. I do on mine to ensure that a USB doesn't decide to go to sleep on me in the middle of a flight. It's all a matter of choice. But as long as you are able to jump start the instrument screens manually when you start, then I think all will be well. 😊
