  • Found a meter that has a cool feature, and can check a lot of things for little money. Not trying to convert the Fluke fanboys (I like Fluke as well), but show people that you can get a meter that'll get the job done for cheap.

I've had this meter for over a year and a half. You can't beat it. It's accurate, reliable, and extremely durable.

Ten thumbs up !! Finally, someone showed us a real comparison to Fluke and allows us to see in real time that it is as accurate and fast as a Fluke (instead of just telling us that it is). Note the upgraded model of the 61-747 shown here is the 61-757 (Lowes) and comes with a Certificate of Conformance (calibrated) by S/N and two year warranty. I know because I own the new upgraded 61-757 and love it.

I have this meter as an HVAC Tech. Love it! Affordable and pretty darn accurate. It has all bells and whistles for being very affordable. I mean you can get a fluke but it would do the same thing for half the price. Totally recommend.

I have both the Fluke 325 and the new Ideal clamp meter. The most persuasive selling point to me was being able to see the readout from way outside the hot panel without having to either climb a ladder, or clamp, get a reading, hold the reading then bring the meter back out to see what it reads. At 5'10" with a large residential panel starting at 4', the incoming main power is high enough to where without a ladder I can't see what the readout is unless I twist the wires, which I definitely do not like to do. The Ideal meter lets me comfortably get a reading and remain in a safe position and without having contort myself or the wiring.

Great minds think alike. I've had that meter for about a month now. That's a tough meter to beat for the price, especially for a new guy starting out. As far as the min/max not working on voltage. You just need to set the meter to manual range and move the decimal over to the right. Then it would have captured the 120 volt reading. Do the same thing if you're going to use the max feature to capture a high amp draw, like on a compressor starting, and that way it won't show OL. Ideal is going to offer one more meter that's a step above that one 757, and it will offer a "Peak" function and "LoZ" (ghost voltage). It will probably be out sometime in late spring. Not sure how much it will add on to the price. Probably another 20 to $30. 😎👍

Thanks. I was just looking at buying that meter. I heard it is a little bit heavy. I am not sure whether I buy this or a klein. I heard that Klein is now made in China and I prefer to buy in the US. I support workers here. A big thumbs up and I subscribed. I think everybody should.

Weight doesn’t seem to be bad, but it is bulky on the clamp end, but if you’re not getting into tight spaces, that won’t be an issue. They also make a magnet strap for the Ideal meters, which is nice if you want to hang it on the side of equipment. Thanks for subscribing, and the compliment!

Regarding Ideal 61-747, when you are in diode mode, and there is a short, does it make a beep noise like Fluke 87V? I am talking about when it is in diode mode. NOT in Continuity Mode with noise. Thanks.

Probably the same place in China as fluke. There are only a few good meter manufacturers who’s supply all of the brands. It all comes down to branding, labeling, and to the extent of which Quality Control/actual load real world testing is utilized in the finished product.

It has a 40 amp and 400 amp range, with a resolution of .01 at the 40 amp setting, but I’ve not proven how low it can pick up.
