"This reminds me of rugby" - and all of Australia is offended
hahahahahaha
But for different reasons. The bottom quarter because you've compared AFL to Rugby and another quarter because you have compared Rugby to AFL. The rest follow League and soccer so are just sitting back and laughing.
*Why? it looks alike.*
@@mymymy9452 how very observant of you🙈

*A know-it-all and a man that knows that he doesn't know it all in the end all meets his maker and Mr Cork l am your maker.*
"See you sooon"
Soccer: grown men pretending they need an ambulance.
AFL: grown men pretending they don't need an ambulance
10:56 Brothers colliding. The older one gets back up and pushes his younger brother lol.
What you are seeing in that video are what are called Hip and Shoulder hits. As you noticed, you use the hip and shoulder to take out the player. These shouldn't be confused with tackles, a tackle and a hip and shoulder are two different things in AFL.
LOL fancy seeing you here :P
At the 11 minute mark when you said that was wrong. Those two player's that were involved are actually brothers.
AFL teams have 24 players in a game the NFL have 46 the AFL players are trained in every skill needed in the game as opposed to the NFL where people are far more singular focused in the part of the game they play. Also the playing area for AFL is twice that of the NFL. I would recommend you search for (What is AFL? Aussie Rules Explained) and (AFL biggest hits- Here comes the boom)
Absolute credit to whoever made this video because they picked mostly the clean hip and shoulders of our great game haha because this is not even close to the crazy stuff haha. Best game in the world.
Because NFL is covered in plastic and padding, you have no idea how big these guys are. The average height of an AFL player is 6ft and about 100kg+ they also run an average of 15km per game over a game, only lasting 80mins on a field three times the size of an NFL field.
One contact you said was not warranted where a player in Blue hit a player in white and blue hoops were actually brothers playing for different teams. The one that was hit pushed his brother but was given a weeks suspension for that action. Both later played in the same team and are legend's of our game.
That was Adam not Scott that collided with Joel. Adam only ever played for west coast.
There is a video explaining the game floating around UA-cam if you’re interested. I believe it was from the AFL themselves.
Americans: you gotta change the rules..
Aussies:..@#%$ orf
I love watching videos of people reacting to things about my country Australia 😊
Each team has 18 players on the field, at one time; and have 4 interchange players on the bench. The game is played over 4 quarters, each quarter generally going to around 30 minutes; individual players can travel anywhere between 10 and 15 km per game.
AFL players come in a variety of sizes - the shortest 5'3 to the tallest 6'11.
Back when the game was not played at such a frenetic pace the heaviest player was 303 lbs BUT with the speed of the game & aerobic requirements in the game nowadays, it's very rare to see any player over 250 lbs with the vast majority between 175 - 215 lbs.
An AFL player runs anywhere between 8 & 18 miles per game (depending on the position they play) & the game lasts (ball IN PLAY time) between 80 & 120 minutes - compare to an NFL (in play) time of 14 minutes. EVERY AFL player MUST be able to run, catch the ball, bounce the ball, tackle, kick & handball accurately.
NBA players might be tall enough & be aerobically fit - BUT - they don't have 200lbs men slamming them to the ground throughout the game so I think the physicality of AFL might be beyond them.
Basically, an AFL player is basketball size in height, has the hands of a wide receiver, more stamina than a soccer player & the tackling ability of a linebacker.
LOL, sounds like you watched another AFL vidoe recently..... Thumbs up. Why do we try and make the similarities to American football.... It really isnt even close on any respect, there are zero positions on an AFL squad that you could put an US footballer and they would last more than 8 mins. A line backer makes 1 tackle then its break time while they "time out, line up again.....Its silly to compare.
You have to be able to run between 10 -15 km per game . There are 18 players per team on the field ( plus 4 on the bench) so at any one time there are 36 players on the field.
The afl has been a codified game for 150yrs. Whatever sport you reference and say the afl is like sport zyz is incorrect. Sport xyz is like afl...
Only 150 years? That all?
Hey guys, you should check out the only American playing AFL, Mason cox. He has a video called "Mason cox don't believe in never" shows his journey from Texas to Australia
The rules in the older clips didn’t protect the head as much. Now if make any contact with the head (even if it’s incidental) usually means they get suspended for at least a match or 2
No disrespect to NFL players, but they wouldn't last 5 minutes playing Australian football, because they don't have the fitness or the ability to handle the hits that can come from any direction on the field.
Nicole quickly picked up the the basic hip and shoulder play of Aussie rules well done 👍 please don’t call it rugby nothing close to rugby cheers
Thanks for the reaction guys
Nah it's called soccer here in Australia too
Soft tissue injuries to areas like hamstrings and achilles are common, a lot of ankle, foot and knee injuries. Things like ACL tears, osteoitis pubis, plantar fasciitis, and every now and again, someone might be hospitalised or suffer a compound fracture... a lot of shoulder reconstructions and AC joint issues... just to let you know a few of the more common injuries players tend to have.
I loved when you said these guys arnt the same size then the rest of the video you can basically see how big some off these AFL boys are and where
These guys are the ultimate athletes
@ 4:26 The oppositions elbow collected squarely with his jaw, not his head hitting the ground.... lol it did hit the ground though it's just he was already out by then.
Now this is a real mans game......
Women play too.
Skill and great technique allows hard play without injuries. Alot of contact sports are predominately brut strength and not enough emphasis on perfect technique throughout. These guys are perfect athletes having to do it all and be just about perfect at it. Sprint, long distance running, high jumping, aggression, ball handeling(including dribbling the ball), heavy bodily contact, team work, they are super fit given they are on the field for 90mins involved in a very fast paced game.
Lots of concussion and knee injuries in the game .
There’s still plenty of injuries in AFL but because kids learn the game with no padding they learn to hit and be hit more safely rather than leading with their head like NFL players tend to
It's called a "hospital pass" when you kick it to someone and open them up to being laid out. It's part of the game, but generally it's considered poor form to go for the man instead of the ball.
NFL hits are typically more "explosive" in nature. But the only real similarity with rugby is that it's intended to be a continuous game, rather than stop-start like NFL. Just all go from hooter to hooter. No defensive line, no offensive line, no special positions. So with exception of interchange and periods of play there's no real rest time.
LOL we call Mc Donald's here Maccas in Australia
oh! hahaha! That was me previously. The game is trying to be 'cleaned up' due to concussion, etc. Nothing on the big hits I grew up with in the 70s & 80s.
hip and shoulder is a usual defence, as long as you don't go past trying to go for the ball
Our game of Australian Rules is nothing like Rugby or Soccer, our game is unique, the ground is 200 metres long, and 150 yards wide.
Those players do not let the lack of padding hold them back, they go at the ball 100%. When you live in a country where everything wants to kill you.... you don't need padding to play sport. Also the players are not small, most are over 6 foot.
Australian rules football (definitely NOT rugby), is played at 360 degrees so the hits can come from anywhere.. makes it a very fast sport.
Incidentally, it is this sport where the Australian punters in the NFL come from (not rugby).
As other people have noted the game has been cleaned up a lot in the last twenty years. If you want to see the bad old days search for something like afl enforcers a line in the sand.
Wait til you see amazing marks, and the goals. The golden arches is Macca's here.
The helmet is to stop skull fracture, the problem is it probably makes concussion worse, which is a greater, long-term health-threat.
NFL you know where the hits are coming from. You can brace for it with armour. In AFL you get hit from 360 degrees, when your not ready for it, with no padding or helmets. Hurts way more when you can’t brace. Like to see an nfl player run 12+ kms a game, take big hits, lay tackles, be able to kick accurately. It’s a far more skilful game. I like nfl but it’s essentially red rover with a ball where you get a break every ten seconds.
In the NFL blindside hits are plenty, blocking is legal so if you are a defender you can get wiped out from anyone at anytime from any angle if you are near the ball carrier, if you are a wide receiver you are getting up there no different from taking a mark. Rugby hits are 99% confrontational , NFL is a 360 game.
At 1.20 the player gets up and is ready to play on.
There is no off side rule in Aussie rules so you can be hit from any angle. We call European football soccer too. Good reaction video.
The hits come from all angles. You know you're gonna get hit you just don't know when.
where you said “that was wrong” after a player pushed another that was on the ground….they are brothers & the one on the ground is the older brother
AFL...Great athletic game...all the skills...And courage.
Byron Pickett hard hits is a must see video
You should check out the video by the AFL "What is AFL: Aussie Rules Explained"
Aussie Rules doesn't have an offside rule, and you can pass in any direction. Also, you can dropping the ball doesn't matter. You can't do that in rugby.
You notice in the old ones them guys are using there elbows to the head
Aussie rules players use no padding at all, need to have insane endurance and mids/wings will routinely run (at pace) 15 kms (9 miles) a game.
Player size is anywhere fro 5 foot 8 to over 7 foot. They are fast, strong and run over 10 miles in a match 2 hours long.
saying the hips are not as big as NFL is slightly true, especially in the modern era. But remember these guys dont where padding or helmets like the NFL players. So it still hurts way more.
SPEED KILLS, those players may look smaller but they only appear that way because of the bigger players most of these players are well over 100kg and all are fast and strong.
The game has changed a lot in the last 20 years or so has become a much more athletic game for lack of a better term used to be 18 on the field with 1 reserve, now with many more interchange s and 4 reserve s makes it much less a battle of attrition like it used to be. Pretty much used to be as long as ya didn't kill anyone just about anything goes. Much faster game now generally to. Things like the play with the rucks and rovers has changed a lot too. The positional play has changed a whole lot.
nice way to mix it up :)
NFL players lead with their head a lot more because they have helmets. By playing your entire jnr football without helmets you learn to tackle and attack in a different way and there for less concussions but it is always going to happen in a physical sport that is as quick as this
I don't think they have too many more or less injuries than any other sport but it does happen. We call soccer soccer like the US does its europe that calls it football.
We call it soccer in Australia to
AFL is not rugby ,it has no touch downs or trys. Australian football started in the 1850s .Some AFL clubs are some of the oldest football clubs in the world of any code of football still operating.
Its more like full field, full contact basket ball with kicking. The guys are basketball sized but need to be able to run 20km a game. No NFL/power athletes could compete in this game, its a different type of sport.
I was at the game @10:26 and it was blatantly a case of playing the man instead of the ball. Steven May copped sooooo much lip while leaving for the sheds at half time. He should have been embarrassed with such a cheap shot. Especially on one of the nicest blokes in the sport.
Check out biffs bumps and brawlers
There are 18 players each side on the field
AFL doesn't share a single rule or aspect of game play or scoring whatsoever 😂 tiny rectangle field where you pass backwards and run to touch a ball down. Large oval where you run any direction, kick or handball the ball to anyone and score by kicking the ball through the middle of 4 posts 🤨
To the comnentators.
If you had ever seen a game of rugby, you would immediateky know that Aussie Rules football is nothing, repeat, NOTHING like rugby AT ALL.
There is nothing more annoying than hearing this ignorant comnent from people who have rarely seen either game.
Check out
AFL worst injuries
You might get a bit squeeze
Though
G'day mates.
Need to check out what is AFL tells you the rules
Fun fact at 7:42 is my brother in law. And now you know. Please sub for more useless facts. YAY
You should react to what is afl
DO NOT COMPARE WITH ANY OTHER GAME. THIS WAS ORIGINALLY PLAYED BY OUR INDIGENOUS PEOPLE MANY MANY YEARS AGO BEFORE AFL, RUGBY OR SOCCER SO PLEASE STOP COMPARING IT TO OTHER GAMES OKAY
Australia we call is soccer to
ABSOLUTELY NOT rugby. Aussie rules was codified and competition began on 1858 and in doing so pre-dates soccer, both rugby codes, American Football, basketball and baseball.
How did no one notice her O•H•I•O shirt?
Not more injured less injuries
From about 3:00 these are the good old days of football when the head wasn’t protected as much.
try looking at the NRL if you think this is rugby
Great stuff team but don't ever EVER compare our game to soccer as that is the the biggest insult you can give.
You will both need time off work after watching this.
Aussie rules football isn't like any other sport in the World, it's not comparable to anything and it's the best game in the World and does require the best endurance Athletes of any World team sport.
The best game in the world 😹
He average pro afl player can cover 10 to 13 mile a game so can’t be the 300 pound nfl linesmen are.
where is white man and black girl ??????
react to arcane on netflix!!!!!
NFL is kinda weak rugby is way harder
Should check out NRL or rugbys biggest hits
AFL is the girls version of footy
