In 1988, I met with a bike accident outside Adyar. I was on a KB 100 in 11th grade, and I collided with a Mark IV ambassador. It was Amala's car. I was hospitalized in Isabelle's in Chennai. And Amala visited me on the second day with a bouquet of flowers to make sure I was doing ok. She didn't need to do that. I was a rich kid. More so than she was or will ever be. And we weren't going to press charges. She was older than me by at least 5 years. I had always had a massive crush on her. But that day at Isabelle's she truly touched my heart - she was a special person. She transcended mere mortal thoughts and desires. And I fell in love with her. It was foolish love - we never saw each other after that day, and I moved on to graduate from high school, go to IIT-Madras, and eventually end up in Palo Alto and Stanford. But the memories of that week in Chennai, when a 17 year old me met with a painful accident, which opened a window of opportunity for me - opportunity that only existed in my imagination. I will forever cherish that week. I even kept the bouquet all through my days in Godavari Hostel in IIT. I left it behind when I caught my flight to SFO in 1993. Sorry for rambling - memories of another day!
galatta plus: baddie we need you to interview an actress of this time travel movie. baddie: what? i want to interview the director and the technicians for the writing process in adapting this genre to Indian cinem- galatta plus: it's amala baddie: amala vandhachcha...ada paradesi idha illada nee modhalla sollirukkanum...
How cutely baddy puts up his fan moment , crush if you would say in very first mins of this interview . Adorable , but I will finish the interview full first ….
Why did i felt so intense when amala mam said "She was always playing all these different roles that other people had written for her" people of those eras are really special.. aren't they? Thank you! Baddie...
I wish she continued working post marriage too!! so talented and beautiful. What wonderful anecdotes about her movies and people, that Feroz Khan piece was so interesting to hear. I wish there were more questions on the times of the heroine then and now, her relationships with other heroines, rivalries if any and also about her son's career...
Amala ma’am - I’ve always been amazed by your simplicity and uniqueness; today I got a glimpse of your intelligence and genuine interest in art. Best wishes for your 2nd innings to offer you roles that will make good memories for all of us
Baddy, it's such nostalgic moment for me to see amla's interview, like u I have been a fan girl since I saw her in 'ente sooryaputhrike'. The character of a free spirited girl she portrayed with such abandon made me a fan for life, she shows how actors dont need to do 100 films to stay relevant, just one exceptional role is enough. Here was a heroine who was not hip shaking or dancing in rain or being coy, she was determined and spoke her heart, still remember her short hair and white midi dress she wore! Such a graceful charm she has got even now, thank you for bringing this interview to us, words cannot express the memories.
Thank you, Bharadwaj Rangan for this fabulous interview. It was so interesting listening to Amala' s anecdotes which she narrates beautifully. Such a humble, down to earth, totally genuine person. A complete pleasure. Here's to more such interviews ☺️
Amala ji is so beautiful and graceful. I saw some of her movies in the late 1980s and early 1990s. She and Nagarjuna bhai are the best real life couple in any Indian movie industry IMO.
🎉Happy Birthday🎉 Amala ji. Thank you for this wonderful interview ... Which Was full of lovely anecdotes... Amala is such a well read , humble and genuine person and it comes through the way she talks. Thank you BR and Amala. Once again Wishing you a very Happy Birthday Amala ji
I love Amalaji. She is beauty with brains & humble soul. Huge respect for her..I hope to see in person sometime. I loved her Tamil movie Vedam pudidhu. Pure beauty...
What an interesting and insightful conversation? It was delight. She is exactly what I thought she would be in real life. Such a wonderful and real person.
As someone growing up in the Eastern part of India....I also had a huge crush on Amala during my childhood thanks to Pushpak and Shiva....a true blue Bengali Beauty
If the actor does not get recognized… then they will introduce themselves and ask you to take a selfie with them … this happened to me in Dubai airport. I don’t remember who this actor was
Haven't seen Baddy blush so hard since his interviews with Gautham menon.

I wish she continued working post marriage too!! so talented and beautiful. What wonderful anecdotes about her movies and people, that Feroz Khan piece was so interesting to hear. As someone growing up in the Eastern part of India....I also had a huge crush on Amala during my childhood thanks to Pushpak and Shiva....a true blue Bengali Beauty
