Everything I see in the rules are that you when get 3 injuries, after that you are incapacitated. If injured while incapacitated, you get killed. The -1 Toughness they are talking about I think refers to cumulative -1 Toughness checks when checking for another injury. As far as I can tell, you don't have as many "hit points" as you do toughness. You get 3 injuries, 4th your ko'd.
+JasperCorp Me too! Reading through the book and being new to the game, I kept nodding and then blanking out with "But...how do I hurt/kill things?" It's almost like they purposefully danced around it when laying out their rule system.
Yeah, I'm having issues with damage and condition and work out exactly how to handle combat. I mean initiative and terms are pretty standard to most (if not all games) but the other stuff is giving me some trouble. I'm actually going to try and set up a game on Roll20 to run just some simple one on one combat for practice, if I can find someone who knows the rules and would be willing to try it out with me. We will see.
I thought a toughness check is toughness + 15? My group and i havent played yet because we cannot figure out how to play. Ive played D&D before and i think I’m getting the two mixed up. dont know when to roll the die. You roll to attack. But do you roll for a toughness check? The book says its +15 and whatever your toughness is. It doesnt say to roll a die.
I think I’m not understanding the book. I have the Basic Handbook. It says Toughness vs. (Damage Rank + 15). So when good guy attacks with Damage 5, he has 20 vs the bad guy’s toughness? Which is like 5 or something? The problem I’m having is when i try to play, it feels like we’re either too powerful or too weak and the bad guys can knock out a good guy with one alright hit.
@@Morgaknite from what I understand when someone hits they roll 1d20+toughness vs 15+dmg and if they fail by 5 or more they get a penalty. If they fail it again the conditions get worse and eventually they get knocked out.
Your presentation was a bit chaotic and disjointed. Sorry, but I found it to be a confusing jumble. It may have been a case of too many cooks. It probably would have been better organized if it had been more scripted, less off the cuff.

Very effective and straightforward explanation of the mechanics.
ty guys, I've been having a lot of trouble working out the mechanics of damage and this cleared it up nicely :D

+Bryan McIntyre M&M is a hero game and it's really not promoting a combat system with lots of death/killing highlighted in it.

Yeah, my understanding is the damage/conditions system is an attempt to make it like comics where people rarely die.
