If you tried to tell me in 1987 that Rick Astely would be performing Smiths songs (to critical acclaim) 35 years later, I would have laughed so hard that the echo would still be reverberating around the Globe today. Fair play to the man!
@@wornyodelrecords If you listen to the songs tempo, waves & feel of the lyrics, you'll know its not the type of songs he use to singing, but like you said, he does a good job:)
I don't know why everyone seems so surprised how good a job he does here. The guy is incredibly talented and has obviously taken good care of his voice. He has always been a really strong singer. Good to see him getting some much-deserved acclaim instead of being made a joke of!
You can see how the man is truly enjoying performing these songs, and he is nailing them vocally... this is so wholesome, it makes me happy just to watch it
I'm not really into The Smiths, but it gives me chills watching the audience have so much fun singing along. Rick and Blossoms are giving them something Morrissey never could.
Yeah, I mean, I really dislike Morrissey, as a human. But I can't deny the brilliance of this band. Part of that was his voice, but Rick nails it so well that all I'm left with is a deep reverence for how fantastic every one of their songs is.
Rick is a rad dude. He never wanted to be a star. He was the intern sound engineer and the Stock Atkin and Waterman guys noticed he had the right look. They didn't even expect him to be able to sing and couldn't really care less , they just wanted someone they could market. Turned out he was a great singer
That’s an urban tale. Rick Astley was discovered when singing in a club, and Pete Waterman wanted to make a record with him. However, Astley was shy and withdrawn so Waterman thought it would be better to let him get used to being around in a studio by having him temporarily as a “tea boy”. Astley never got behind a mixing desk or so
Pete Waterman was actually checking out a band that Rick was part of as a drummer. On the night Pete showed it the lead vocalist was ill , so Rick stepped in & the rest was history.
Out of all the many This Charming Man covers I’ve heard, this one is right at the top (along with Braid’s). This guy absolutely gets what it’s like to be a British working class gay kid
@@davoharito6089 Johnny Marr is one of my favorite guitarists, so don't get me wrong, but he was never able to do live what they did in the studios. The albums have a lot of overdubs. On tour they often had a second guitarist, especially in the latter days of the band.
Never knew this was a thing. I was in London to see P!nk and got a text saying watch the Glasto set. So watched it on iPlayer in the hotel. I was amazed at how good it was. Blossoms are amazing and Ricks vocal is spot on. Not only that they and the crowd were loving it. So had to watch this. Great job by all concerned
Smashed it!.......Johnny who?.....you have just got to give thease guys total respect....Fantastic versions of two classic songs.....never mind the vocals the band were faultless and any one who has ever played an instrument knows thease are not easy songs to cover......Frankly mr Astley......I loved it!
Geez, what an amazing performance. They really put heart into that. Good on Rick. He's a fine singer and really absorbed the silly ridicule like a trooper.
Isn’t funny how just about the time UA-cam has really pissed you off it takes you somewhere you never knew you needed to go? Love it. Took me straight back to high school
@walkerbetweenworld I'd say there was a time when a lot of people gave Morrissey the benefit of the doubt over his possible dickishness, but yeah I think that's probably passed now
@walkerbetweenworld from what I've gathered talking to people of that generation he used to be perceived as just cool and anti-establishment if a bit of prick, but now there's a real sense of betrayal from lots of them since the latter side started being more and more obvious
To his credit Rick Astley has a great voice, really enjoyed this, being a Smiths fan I didnt think I would. Fair play to him! impressed! those trousers though.....brave
That is how you Rock Star! Who knew all this time Rick knew what the fuck was up? Admittingly I did, love this guy for close to 30 years now. The Ultimate Rick Roll!
Saw Blossoms when they supported The Killers Tour last year. They are 👌 awesome & so talented. Rick doing the iconic Smiths classics with them is just fantastic. Please tour with it........ I'm ready to book my ticket. Xx ❤

Rick and band are amazing. I'm shocked. Well done lads.Did the Smiths proud.
Lol. I agree completely
If Morrissey doesn't want to do a reunion this guy can do the trick
He would never give us up
He would never let us down
He would never run around and desert us.

yeah he did
A few Mexican Californians would disagree
I never knew I needed to see Rick Astley covering The Smiths, but here I am.

I don't think he's ever really been made a joke of. Everybody loved the rickroll.
RICK Astley must win the award for the most diverse and INSANE live performances of 2023!
Credit to blossoms too. Perfect backing for Rick to be doing these tunes. You can tell everyone on stage are big fans of The Smiths too.
Agreed they look so happy to be on the stage
Every time I want to hate the Algorithm and the loss of privacy, it recommends something absolutely brilliant like this. *sigh*

This is genuinely brilliant. Full tour needed.
I genuinely support this comment 🙌🏻
2nd that

I’d buy tickets to this in a heartbeat. Sounds incredible.
I’m there
This is shockingly good. I'd pay for this
Agreed! If Johnny Marr and Rick Astley toured together I’d buy that ticket.
In the crowd it was an absolute priviledge. He put his heart and soul into all the hour and so did the crowd.
Got to say, Mr. Astley's trousers are absolutely magnificent, like a couple of main-sails flapping around in a squall.
Funniest comment ever!
Love that quip almost as much as the performance
The most British comment I have ever read
what a gem! didnt find this until his 2023 Glastonbury performance....because why would I have searched for this. Amazing, blown away . Well done!

Just watched their set from Glastonbury 2023, one word AMAZING!

Pure joy. The world needs more of this.
Its obvious that Rick is a huge Smiths/Morrissey fan and has the songs in his blood from growing up with them
.
He explained that his older brother forced him to listen to them, lol.
Brilliant, Rick AND Blossoms ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This Charming Man is so hard to sing well. Rick did an incredible job! And awesome energy from the crowd! Fun show.
Honestly he sounds better than Morrissey does live at this point, Rick's voice sounds a bit better preserved
Also, though, Morrissey is a good 8 years older than him
and He's not fallen down a right wing nationalist rabbit hole.
@@kermitHSHS I'm not sure that made M's vocals worse, but it surely didn't help!! lol
